ITT: Post your Soundcloud/Bandcamp/whatever harbors your music projects, but adhere to these rules:

1. Explain why you make music.
2. State how long you've been making music.
3. List your 5 biggest influences, musical or otherwise.

Got it? I have done this once before in the past, but the thread was deleted because a stale Soundcloud thread still existed. Before the thread was deleted, however, there was more feedback in a personal music thread than I had seen in a long time, ie real discussion.

>1. Explain why you make music.

I make music because something inside me inexplicably gives me an intense drive to do so. Perhaps it's passion; perhaps it's because I want to inspire others as I have been inspired.

>2. State how long you've been making music.

I've been making music since I was quite young on piano. At age 12, I picked up the guitar. I've been producing music since 2011. Now I've been releasing music under the name Evo Auxilium since February 2014.

>3. List your 5 biggest influences, musical or otherwise.

Flying Lotus, Radiohead, Clams Casino, Mr. Carmack, Flume

>1. Explain why you make music.

Because chiptune gives me a magic feeling of wonder and enthusiasm that I can barely put into words. It's like a wonderful feeling of waking up in the year 2200 to an utopic digital world. Hell, I don't know how to describe. Chiptune gives me an amazing feeling.

>2. State how long you've been making music.

Since 2010.

>3. List your 5 biggest influences, musical or otherwise.

Early Slime Girls and early Anamanaguchi, with a chiptune sound that is less free-form and more structured, similar to a punk rock song but in chiptune form.

Also WMD and Azuria have a way of making chill, relaxing chiptune that inspired me on how to make the smooth, chill part of my song.

Give my music a listen: if you think it's shit you can tell me that, and I won't take it personally.

I'm a member of many reoccurring compilations and have made many friends through music production. One of which, whose opinion I respect highly [Zovi is her name if you care to look her up], is currently teaching me her methods because I suck. My current goal is to make music she likes/can tolerate. That's the current reason. That and to master FL and eventually learn Renoise

>2
7 or 4 years depending who you ask
I always had an interest but never enough of one to learn how to play an instrument. When I was 9 I decided I wanted to be Barney of Napalm Death and recorded some things of just me screaming. That was rough. Much later my music taste had changed drastically and I started to listen to things like Clark and Aphex Twin and Flylo. I, around the same time, discovered Audacity. One thing led to another and I was making bootleg remixes of Clark tracks [mostly stuff from Totem Flares and Body Riddle] in Audacity. I was about 12 at the time. Then a lot of honestly really cringey stuff I don't wanna talk about happened and fast forward 3 or 4 years and here we are. I'm sorta trained in FL and I'm gonna start trying out Renoise eventually.

I wanted to make movies but it's a bitch to get that up and going at the younger ages and I found it way more rewarding to write a song I wanted to hear and the only thing standing in the way of me being whether or not I could actually play it. 1. This is a loaded question. I have been making music since I was 8, I am 22 now. I make music that I love, and hopefully people see the angle I'm getting at. and this is all I have. if my mixtape and video doesnt take off and get me popular I'll be crushed
2. kek I just said that. got some instruments at the age of 8. started producing at 16.
3. my family's financial situation, living in the fucking hood, asher roth (seriously), eases my depression/anxiety disorder, and I wanna get big in the industry so I can work with people like earl sweatshirt and logic etc

Just posted a 3 track prelude to a hip-hop EP/mixtape I'm working on based off of the flight of Icarus. Its lit.

https://soundcloud.com/tennessee_luna/sets/the-daedalus-prelude

>rap, hip-hop, bars
>1. Explain why you make music.

I make music to stop kids who were like myself (minority, ambitious, emotionally unattended to, creatively malnourished) from feeling worthless or caged.

>2.State how long you've been making music.

I've been writing raps and freestyling everyday since I was 12. When I was 14 I focused on learning how to freestyle fluently to the point of excellence. Senior year of high school I decided to not rap about things that weren't true to me. So I decided to go live life and come back when I had a story to tell. This was in 2011.

I started recording music summer 2015.

>3.List your 5 biggest influences, musical or otherwise.

Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Kid Cudi lyrically.

Kung Fu movies (specifically the Ip Man series and Bruce Lee films) have influenced my lyrical thought process in the way that he fluidly would handle multiple opponents at once, on the offensive and defensive fronts, and make it look as if it was choreographed. It obviously was for the movies sake, but in the context of the film that shit is lit.

And no bullshit, Young Thug has actually influenced my perception of boundaries in southern rap music. I'm making a fucking mixtape about Daedalus of Ancient Greek lore and its lit thats ridiculous, if you heard somebody was going to try some shit like this 10 years ago you would have assumed them to be some kind of underground hip-hop 90s freak boom bap nigga not a trap southern club/party/"gangster" rapper

1. I make music to get these sounds out of my head. Nothing captivates me more than music, and more technically audio. I consider it my passion, I'm going to school for audio engineering starting this spring (after 4 years trying at normal college, but I digress, audio is my chosen path in life)

2. Playing guitar for 7 years, producing electronic for 4 years

3. No particular order:
-(mostly older) Skrillex. This guy is the reason I ventured from metal to electronic, and more importantly sound design.

-Bassnectar. vibes unlike any other and a sound truly his own, something I strive to have

-Knife Party raw, mean, and fast

-Feed Me, same reasons as Bassnectar & Skrillex combined really, this dude definitely got me into electronic in the beginning. Love how he can release a calm house tune or a filthy dubstep track and either way you can tell it's Feed Me just by listening

-Eminem, i grew up on his music and some of his lyrics inspired me to get into music further. Also, as a producer, he has some of the trippiest beats, always got these weird strings and exciting melodies goin on. Idk how to put it into words exactly but I feel like his style influenced the way I put my melodies together.

1. I just like music. I have been playing the piano for a while, and eventually I started to branch out into vocals and production.

2. Well I wrote my first song in the 8th grade. The minimum age I can be on this site is 18, so that would be about 4 years. I have been playing music for longer though, and that started around elementary school.

3. I listen to a lot of rap, but I don't actually make rap songs. I guess I was probably influenced lyrically, so I would say Bones from TeamSesh, at least at the moment. My taste in music has varied wildly though, so I couldn't really say who influenced me in my earlier years.

*I just wanted to thank you for making this thread. Finally someone who appreciates critique and discussion. A lot of people just think that these threads are their personal advertising space.

I make music because it's the only thing I've ever really been interested in. Everything else has been an on-and-off thing, music has stuck for the longest time.

you should realize that no one gets better that way. the world outside the internet is a lot harder than some asshole online telling someone that their music sucks and that they should fix this and that. for one, no one out there in the real world will tell you the truth about your shit. instead, you'll just be stuck making shit and wondering why no one wants it despite everyone telling you it's "great, i love the drums here!"

how often does anyone here actually revisit the tracks they grace with a listen and a positive comment and maybe, MAYBE, a "fave"? it's about the long run, but everyone here is so short-sighted. yes, your feelings will be hurt, but if i've pissed someone off, hopefully i've incited them to get off this awful board for a moment and actually work on their craft. the more time people spend here (and they spend a LOT of time posting this shit), the less they are working on being better.

but either way, it's no skin off of my back. it's just the atmosphere here is toxic to anyone actually looking to get better.
>>
>>61760169
i feel you. tough love is good. honesty is pure. but its not dishonest if i dont say anything because id just have a lot to type haha. so i just pick what i like you know? i completely understand where you are coming from though a lot of people just make music just to make it. they do their trap/ambient/glitch/acoustic/what the fuck ever and its so uninspired. i feel bad for them but whats a comment gonna do to them? stop them? maybe they just need to keep making stuff til they grow out of their comfort zones and grow. i cant shit on them like that because maybe they really are a diamond in a rough just making stuff for fun or just letting stuff out creatively. i cant say. but yeah

>1. Best feeling in the world, being connected through something like music with other people. The feeling of playing / jamming a song and knowing the other bandmates, at the same second, know what they are doing and have to do next, like a machine. Can't really explain that. Maybe someone will know what i mean.

1. Composing helps with depression & makes me feel better in general, plus it's great when I'm feeling overwhelmed to just plug around with chords.

2. Learnt guitar when I was 10, played in a jazz combo for 3 years, played in various other bands for 6, am now 22 and pretty much doing my own thing with another band on the side that i don't write for.

I'd say only the first 30-40 seconds are done. It's going to slowly filter down to one track. Any suggestions are appreciated.

This is the first thing I have ever made. I stayed up all night making it instead of doing my homework, cause procrastination.

I'm usually a guitar player, but I'm inspired by a wide variety of music.

1. Good form of creative expression and art
2. Began making music in 2002
3.There are different influences on different songs. Latest song had a Lazerhawk influence. The song before was influenced by the snow and the winter and a sense of isolation and the one before was influenced by a wet spring day and the subtle interludes in some of the music released by Peccatum. So basically anything and everything can have an influence.

>1. I make music cus i dont have anything else and i cant cope with people and having money did nothing to me, I'm 22 and in these times, music is the only thing i really enjoy. not even sex, not even drugs anymore, I mainly live isolated, so this is the only thing i do in my free time, no family, no friends, no gf. Just music.

>2. I've started making music 7 years ago, playing bass for some tech/death bands and guitar in a black metal project.

>3. Influences? Lifelover, Harakiri for the Sky, Windir, Carach Angren & some poetry. These things (to say a few) make me want to keep doing music and stay motivated.

Ill give feedback later

1. I make music simply because I enjoy it. I'm working on a rock album with other musicians at the moment under a different band name, but almost all of this music under the name "albinotron" is electronic. I just love the freedom I have to make compositions that are entirely my creations from beginning to end.

2. I've been making music since 2002, the oldest album on my discography page was recorded in 2003.

3. Venetian Snares, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Stunt Rock, and Squarepusher are probably my biggest influences.

Here is an album guide for those interested in diving into my extensive discography. Also I worked on a few projects with NMESH like "Fair and Balanced Music" and the "You're Dead to Me EP".

Darkest album:
What is Lovecore?

Prettiest sounding albums:

Everyday Occurrence
Good Morning, I Love You
Love Zero

Heaviest Albums:

Internets
All My Love to Give

1. Music is the only outlet I have. I don't like partying and socializing, or drugs. I've pretty much given up on consumer culture, I don't spend money. All I know is that I started doing it and now I can't not do it anymore.

2. Exactly a year. Only been focusing on hiphop for the last 6 months or so.

3. Marilyn Manson, Flying Lotus, Wondagurl, The Gaslamp Killer, Hank III

Here's my latest beat. I make trap and new school hiphop with a lot of psychedelic influences, trying to take it into an artsy direction. Just kinda doing my own thing, don't give a damn about trends.

I'm a hobbyist. The catharsis involved makes it too irresistible to ever stop. The satisfaction of finishing works is the best feeling.

I've been playing a variety of instruments all throughout my life (violin as a child, then guitar, then keys, now mostly keys and the ableton.) I've been making music for about 7 years. Only recently got decent at it.

My five biggest influences are Tim Hecker, Oneohtrix Point Never, Autechre, Boards of Canada, and maybe Nicolas Jaar
