ITT: Post your Soundcloud/Bandcamp/whatever harbors your music projects, but adhere to these rules:

1. Explain why you make music.
2. State how long you've been making music.
3. List your 5 biggest influences, musical or otherwise.

Got it? I have done this once before in the past, but the thread was deleted because a stale Soundcloud thread still existed. Before the thread was deleted, however, there was more feedback in a personal music thread than I had seen in a long time, ie real discussion.

>experimental electronic/hip hop
>trap and future bass flavours

>1. Explain why you make music.

I make music because something inside me inexplicably gives me an intense drive to do so. Perhaps it's passion; perhaps it's because I want to inspire others as I have been inspired.

>2. State how long you've been making music.

I've been making music since I was quite young on piano. At age 12, I picked up the guitar. I've been producing music since 2011. Now I've been releasing music under the name Evo Auxilium since February 2014.

>3. List your 5 biggest influences, musical or otherwise.

Flying Lotus, Radiohead, Clams Casino, Mr. Carmack, Flume
to the mods, if you must delete a soundcloud thread, delete the old one that is awfully stagnant and dead plz

>Hip hop/Rap.

I make the sort of music that I think I'd listen to myself.

I've been beat making since 2011, rapping since 2012.But the computer I make my beats on is in bad shape hence the trickle of tracks, and when I say tracks, I mean mostly shittily recorded iPhone demo verses.

Influences (no particular order and of the present)

Big Pun.

>1. Explain why you make music.

Because chiptune gives me a magic feeling of wonder and enthusiasm that I can barely put into words. It's like a wonderful feeling of waking up in the year 2200 to an utopic digital world. Hell, I don't know how to describe. Chiptune gives me an amazing feeling.

>2. State how long you've been making music.

Since 2010.

>3. List your 5 biggest influences, musical or otherwise.

Early Slime Girls and early Anamanaguchi, with a chiptune sound that is less free-form and more structured, similar to a punk rock song but in chiptune form.

Also WMD and Azuria have a way of making chill, relaxing chiptune that inspired me on how to make the smooth, chill part of my song.

Give my music a listen: if you think it's shit you can tell me that, and I won't take it personally.

(an artist HAS to know how to take criticism, constructive or not, and deal with it)

Thanks for listening.

1. It's a fairly fulfilling hobby that eats up a lot of time, plus part of me is still clinging to the remains of the dream that I'll be a somewhat known and respected musician/producer. Idk, I do it for me but I want people to care what I think, they don't even have to like my music.

2. Wrote and recorded my first song in September of 2013, but I've been playing guitar since I was in first grade.

3. Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, Nine Inch Nails, Pink Floyd, and Kraftwerk (Weird set up, I know).

>1. Explain why you make music.
I make music because I've gone through several mental breakdowns and music, whether listening or making, has always been therapeutic for me. I've written songs since middle school and even though I cringe at the songs I started writing, they were ultimately a reflection of my state of being at the time.

I make post-rock/drone with spoken word poetry over, recently in free time (no discernible rhythm). It's definitely different, but I hope you give it a shot. I'm going to look at everyone in the thread and leave feedback where I feel appropriate.
1. I make music because I enjoy writing poetry and find it to be the best emotional release - but poetry without music doesn't get heard and music adds emotional intensity.

2. I've been making original music for around a year. I've been playing instruments for about four.

3.1 GSY!BE 3.2 Atmosphere 3.3 Gerald Brom 3.4 4chinz 3.5 John Scofield

1) I just enjoy doing it. I think about it 24/7 and playing is my release. I don't enjoy recording so don't post often, but I can say I have studio time next sunday and I'm hoping to get 2 different song skeletons down.
2) 10 years
3) Nirvana, Syd Barret/Floyd, STP, Beatles... Idk after that it depends on the song. My new direction is more Consider the Source, Transatlantic, Ravi+Philip Glass, zappa, etc. All sort of crazy shit. Hopefully I'll make killer prog music someday.

I make music because I like listening to music and making stuff so I decided to combine the 2.
It`s also fun.

I mainly make art punk with my group Mock Fountain:

But I`ve recently been giving sample-based music a try,and basically I made some vaguely vaporwave tracks. I know everyone is tired of vaporwave,so I did spice it up extra for you /mu/ niggas:

Real neat stuff man. Some of these go really hard. I particularly like No Man Aint Smart. I'm a sucker for that overblown bass sound.

>to inspire people

wow real deep kid

1. I make music because I get an innate sense of enjoyment of just figuring out what to do and finally getting to see a result that I like is one of the best feelings ever.

2. 6 months ago I downloaded FL Studio for the firs ttime. Never done anything with music before that (except listening(

3. Pretty much all the vaporwave artists I like and all the oldschool dubstep artists.

Anyways would love to hear some feedback on the dubstep track I made, it's my first 100% original one.
Huh, I guess it's actually GY!BE and not GSY!BE.

Oops. Anyway, Godspeed You! Black Emperor is great.
I guess I'll advertise this track I did about Skullgirls

I'm a member of many reoccurring compilations and have made many friends through music production. One of which, whose opinion I respect highly [Zovi is her name if you care to look her up], is currently teaching me her methods because I suck. My current goal is to make music she likes/can tolerate. That's the current reason. That and to master FL and eventually learn Renoise

7 or 4 years depending who you ask
I always had an interest but never enough of one to learn how to play an instrument. When I was 9 I decided I wanted to be Barney of Napalm Death and recorded some things of just me screaming. That was rough. Much later my music taste had changed drastically and I started to listen to things like Clark and Aphex Twin and Flylo. I, around the same time, discovered Audacity. One thing led to another and I was making bootleg remixes of Clark tracks [mostly stuff from Totem Flares and Body Riddle] in Audacity. I was about 12 at the time. Then a lot of honestly really cringey stuff I don't wanna talk about happened and fast forward 3 or 4 years and here we are. I'm sorta trained in FL and I'm gonna start trying out Renoise eventually.

Brian Eno
[]/Daemien/Spott/Pupae [same guy different names; he has more but these are my favorites]
Aphex Twin
Venetian Snares [specifically Making Orange Things]
damn look at this patrician! why do you make music cool guy?
it's a great way to emotionally express myself and give other people a deeper understanding of my mindset and thought patterns while providing a sonically enjoyable format
Do you use FM at all? That's a determining factor in if I want to listen to you or not

if you're one of those guys that's just exclusively Nintendo sounding, you can forget it

>1. Explain why you make music.

I started off with making edits on songs that had parts that annoyed me, just for personal consumption but then the challenge of making music really got me spellbound.
I make music now because theres no upper limits, the challenge never ends.

>2. State how long you've been making music.

I bought Ableton in 2011 and before that i had just been playing around in different software and i played bass in a band when i was very young.

I wanted to make movies but it's a bitch to get that up and going at the younger ages and I found it way more rewarding to write a song I wanted to hear and the only thing standing in the way of me being whether or not I could actually play it. Of course after a certain point songwriting stopped being "I want to make this sound and do this thing" and more "A wild song appeared and you threw a Great Ball!"

>How long
Shitty lyrics since 9 or 10, solid riffs at 13 or 14, actual ability around 18

70s-80s Italian Horror movies (tone, not music), Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, Gershwin, Edward and Josephine Hopper's marriage.

Hey now, my father is the reason I got into music and poetry, also. In fact, the title track of my new album is a musical adaptation of one of his poems. It's a respectable reason.

hello everyone. i'm a rapper/producer from the south. I try my best to keep my accent down as much as possible. I promise I'm not an incest dummy kek.
I take my music very very seriously. I order to get studio time for my mixtape I had to sell all of my college textbooks. and I dropped out of school to pursue my dream.

1. This is a loaded question. I have been making music since I was 8, I am 22 now. I make music that I love, and hopefully people see the angle I'm getting at. and this is all I have. if my mixtape and video doesnt take off and get me popular I'll be crushed
2. kek I just said that. got some instruments at the age of 8. started producing at 16.
3. my family's financial situation, living in the fucking hood, asher roth (seriously), eases my depression/anxiety disorder, and I wanna get big in the industry so I can work with people like earl sweatshirt and logic etc

>1. Explain why you make music.

I make music to stop kids who were like myself (minority, ambitious, emotionally unattended to, creatively malnourished) from feeling worthless or caged.

>2.State how long you've been making music.

I've been writing raps and freestyling everyday since I was 12. When I was 14 I focused on learning how to freestyle fluently to the point of excellence. Senior year of high school I decided to not rap about things that weren't true to me. So I decided to go live life and come back when I had a story to tell. This was in 2011.

I started recording music summer 2015.

>3.List your 5 biggest influences, musical or otherwise.

Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Kid Cudi lyrically.

Kung Fu movies (specifically the Ip Man series and Bruce Lee films) have influenced my lyrical thought process in the way that he fluidly would handle multiple opponents at once, on the offensive and defensive fronts, and make it look as if it was choreographed. It obviously was for the movies sake, but in the context of the film that shit is lit.

And no bullshit, Young Thug has actually influenced my perception of boundaries in southern rap music. I'm making a fucking mixtape about Daedalus of Ancient Greek lore and its lit thats ridiculous, if you heard somebody was going to try some shit like this 10 years ago you would have assumed them to be some kind of underground hip-hop 90s freak boom bap nigga not a trap southern club/party/"gangster" rapper

i don't really know. i've always had an artistic streak, as a kid i was always drawing and then i tried out writing as a teen but music was the thing that stuck. i started and now i can't stop

I really like Mora, that little grumbly lead is too good. Mora also reminds me of Odd Nosdam a little, that switch up right at the end is so nice too

I checked out Apothecary, I really liked the opener and Behaviour, I just wish your production chops were better!

thanks for the kind words on soundcloud man. your stuff is definitely out there. could use a little more form and maybe tighter drums but otherwise it's an experience

i was wondering if i could get some feedback on a song i'm working on called "i can tell by the sun's mouth". it's much more aggressive than what i usually do, though

i've never bothered with odd nosdam but i know he helped found an indie hip-hop label so i'm assuming the association is a good thing.
i actually have some vocals recorded for chokehold but i wasn't very confident in my performance so it's just gathering dust in my hard drive for now
fuck yes!! shit is lit! do you have a soundcloud I could follow you on? I can really tell the work you've out in to these synths
also your programming/arrangement skills are fresh as fuck. very little clutter with a lot of variation/hook generation
your music is nice despite your shitty influences. I can only imagine what you would make if you had better influences. I don't like EDM in general and thought you were a troll but I saw your cloud and you have a soothing/trancy vibe. Maybe get more into the old teisto, armin, moby, seven lions, adventure club, blackmill, phaleah, rameses b, pretty lights. Again these are not the artists that even I listen to in general but I am sure these guys are more talented than Hardwell and Martin Garrix lol. Anyways goodluck.

not bad. the melodies and the synths are decent, but the mix is just drenched in way too much reverb. there also could've been more side-chaining going on.

the overall mix sounded pretty flat in my opinion, but the song was enjoyable anyways.
there's a dynamic concept going on throughout the course of the album. it's placement toward the beginning and its sonic footprint are no accident. it's mad vanilla metamorphosis/coming of age shit tho.

....i hate to be that person, but huh?
my dude your no cake thingy is so fucking good
it's a concept album. it documents my tenure as the "apothecary". it's a linear story of my self-destruction/reassembly into a more conscious and realized version of myself. the "sheen" you're missing is v intentional as I designed all the sounds from scratch to best express its place in the narrative.
and don't worry I'm definitely "that person" in this scenario
kinda remind me some of the indie game I played, like FEZ and it sorta sound like a starter village BGM. It would be great if I can have the full story.

I make music because for me it's an outlet. I enjoy the hell out of music and I love shitting around on the piano.
I also enjoy recording studios. I've been in several. Im planning a professional EP.

I've been making music for 6 years. I've self taught a lot of stuff to myself.
I've started getting into it professionally the last year. I've recorded covers of Radiohead songs with a guy who produced a blink 182 album as well as a guy who produces a lot of local artists.

Love the idea OP! I've seen you/heard your music in these threads multiple times :)

I've got lots of public stuff but this is what I'm workin on rn. I'm doing a track-a-week challenge where I release a new tune every Sunday!

1. I make music to get these sounds out of my head. Nothing captivates me more than music, and more technically audio. I consider it my passion, I'm going to school for audio engineering starting this spring (after 4 years trying at normal college, but I digress, audio is my chosen path in life)

2. Playing guitar for 7 years, producing electronic for 4 years

3. No particular order:
-(mostly older) Skrillex. This guy is the reason I ventured from metal to electronic, and more importantly sound design.

-Bassnectar. vibes unlike any other and a sound truly his own, something I strive to have

-Knife Party raw, mean, and fast

-Feed Me, same reasons as Bassnectar & Skrillex combined really, this dude definitely got me into electronic in the beginning. Love how he can release a calm house tune or a filthy dubstep track and either way you can tell it's Feed Me just by listening

-Eminem, i grew up on his music and some of his lyrics inspired me to get into music further. Also, as a producer, he has some of the trippiest beats, always got these weird strings and exciting melodies goin on. Idk how to put it into words exactly but I feel like his style influenced the way I put my melodies together.

1. I just like music. I have been playing the piano for a while, and eventually I started to branch out into vocals and production.

2. Well I wrote my first song in the 8th grade. The minimum age I can be on this site is 18, so that would be about 4 years. I have been playing music for longer though, and that started around elementary school.

3. I listen to a lot of rap, but I don't actually make rap songs. I guess I was probably influenced lyrically, so I would say Bones from TeamSesh, at least at the moment. My taste in music has varied wildly though, so I couldn't really say who influenced me in my earlier years.

I've got rhymes but I am just checking if you like the beat. Hell if you can spit I can get you on the song.
The big one there is "expecting to make a career" out of it. You're right, that's straight up fucking stupid, especially if you wager off your other chips in life banking on that chance. Like yeah obviously I want my music to sell/get downloaded but if one person hears my music and is touched or changed in some meaningful way by it, then my job is complete.

Anyone who makes art for the sole purpose of monetary profit is both delusional and a hack.

I make music because it helps me release some of my tension and helps me relax. i also find it to be one of the most varying ways to express yourself artistically. I think ive been making music for about a year now, still learning.

really nice what instruments did you use? this sounds fucking great. The static noise is great but don't overwhelm the entire song with it.
Both your aesthetic and music are corny as fuck. A real disappointment based on your influences, none of which carry into your actual music.

Maybe spend less time fetching low-res "retro anime" pics off tumblr and a little more time figuring out what you want to do musically because somehow you've managed to rip off the worst aspects of a plethora of shitty SC artists and none of the good aspects of your supposed influences.
hey thanks man :), just used a keyboard i have and recorded it off my laptop (dont have a midi) and added some funky filters. I added plugin sounds for the bass and like secondary chords too but yeah mostly just a shitty casio keyboard.

>Explain why you make music
To feel good. I want my music to be conducive to late-night internet browsing and other similarly dull, innocuous things. I want to make "damaged" sounding Hip Hop instrumentals. Once I've settled into my niche, I'll start pursuing rappers who might want to collaborate. For now, practice practice practice.
>State how long you've been making music
I made Metal/Rock music for the longest time, almost 10 years. I used to play guitar in bands, but it started to get very boring. I've been making music with a computer on and off for around two years, but I've only recently decided to take it more seriously.

My debut release, I spent a long time working on this. Enjoy.

I make music because it's the only thing I've ever really been interested in. Everything else has been an on-and-off thing, music has stuck for the longest time.

I've been doing this since I was young, around 7-8. Started with piano and moved to guitar, I now can also play bass.

Slint, Swans, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, King Crimson, Boris
If you're wondering why no drone doom bands are listed there it's because I'm moving on from the genre, my next release will be drastically different.
WOAH easy tiger I'm not that guy, just calling it as i see it lol
right. then you're part of the problem as to why SC/BC threads are absolutely shit here on /mu/. they've turned into circlejerks and dickriding contests. the moment you have people donning names and tracing back their posts and being "nice," you've sacrificed any notion of honesty and any chance of actually helping anyone in here improve.

Furthermore we hate it when people complain about our music saying things like: "i like the song, but it could have more bass"..... Or stupid shit like that. Fuck that, we don't care. Don't compare our music to your cunt suck dickshow fuckshit singalong techno heroes of your mother. We hate it. Let us hear your original sounds! That's whats interesting. That is what makes you god.

>but you're such an autistic sperglord it makes me not want to agree with you.
that's cognitive dissonance speaking.

but by all means, continue to let this place suck. no one takes it seriously anyway so it's not like you have anything to lose. a real fuckin shame though, cause it's one of the few places where people are allowed to actually be honest.
i always appreciate honesty, im not the dude you're replying to but i do feel like circle jerking does take place. when i leave feedback its genuine, and most of the time i dont even speak on the things i dont like. maybe i should do that but i dont feel like shitting on peoples happiness. i just comment on what i like

Making music feels satisfying, it's just nice to have something that I'm working on.

Less than 6 months.

Tim Hecker, Oneohtrix Point Never, John Carpenter, Fuck Buttons & Grouper
>and most of the time i dont even speak on the things i dont like. maybe i should do that but i dont feel like shitting on peoples happiness. i just comment on what i like
you should realize that no one gets better that way. the world outside the internet is a lot harder than some asshole online telling someone that their music sucks and that they should fix this and that. for one, no one out there in the real world will tell you the truth about your shit. instead, you'll just be stuck making shit and wondering why no one wants it despite everyone telling you it's "great, i love the drums here!"

how often does anyone here actually revisit the tracks they grace with a listen and a positive comment and maybe, MAYBE, a "fave"? it's about the long run, but everyone here is so short-sighted. yes, your feelings will be hurt, but if i've pissed someone off, hopefully i've incited them to get off this awful board for a moment and actually work on their craft. the more time people spend here (and they spend a LOT of time posting this shit), the less they are working on being better.

but either way, it's no skin off of my back. it's just the atmosphere here is toxic to anyone actually looking to get better.
i feel you. tough love is good. honesty is pure. but its not dishonest if i dont say anything because id just have a lot to type haha. so i just pick what i like you know? i completely understand where you are coming from though a lot of people just make music just to make it. they do their trap/ambient/glitch/acoustic/what the fuck ever and its so uninspired. i feel bad for them but whats a comment gonna do to them? stop them? maybe they just need to keep making stuff til they grow out of their comfort zones and grow. i cant shit on them like that because maybe they really are a diamond in a rough just making stuff for fun or just letting stuff out creatively. i cant say. but yeah

1., I make music because I am in love with the concept of recording, mixing and mastering my own music. I just like *creating*. And making my own music gives me a giddy happy feeling that I'm actually creating something that matters (at least to me) and that pleases me.

2., I've been making music since early 2011, most of my older work is out of print and no longer readily available, however, if you happen to like my music, just message me on Soundcloud and I'll be more than happy to send you a Mediafire link to a few albums I've recorded in the past.

3., My five biggest influences are Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, Daniel Johnston, the album III by Sebadoh, Mac DeMarco and early Ween.
Solid textures, though a bit too bright and airy for my tastes.

Have you heard the Delia Derbyshire atmospheres for BBC? I believe it's like a solid hour radio show where the concept was stringing together snippets of people talking about different types of dreams and improvising over that. I think it'd be up your alley. Also, watch out for learning too much about the mechanics of music.

I really enjoy the music and the vocal patterns are right though the words are all a little bit off.

"Why" is about ten BPM too slow for the arrangement of instruments you've got going there. Are you playing Song of the Spheres in standard? I think you are but the brightness of that guitar is throwing me.

Just take what you have and play it as outlaw country instead. Learn to talk around your problems rather than about them.

Thank you for In The Need. I didn't realize quite how useful it would be (from a composition standpoint) to hear Any Colour You Like sped up and put at a distance like that.

eclectic. careful with that ax eugene.

If you legit just started playing these instruments in the last six months, color me impressed.

outright recommendations, i dig this stuff

>1. Explain why you make music.

it helps me keep my mind from wandering, and i feel more detached from a feeling or idea once i've made music for it. it is also simply enjoyable to do. it's one of my only escapes.

>2. State how long you've been making music.

almost 6 years now, a little over if you count the guitar hero music maker.

>3. List your 5 biggest influences, musical or otherwise.

not gonna lie, number 1 on this list is zach hill, and number 2 is pot. the next three are in no order. the changing of the seasons, the people i see/meet, and self hate.

I really would like to contribute to the music scene. I have some ideas that could be really cool if executed well. Really need to figure out how to translate those to sound. Because now it isnt good enough. I also really like music and want to make good music myself.

Have played guitar for a while. But never really serious.
Started producing 5 months ago and really liked it. So decided to work a little harder and try to make something decent.

Radiohead, deadmau5, nosaj thing, burial, aphex

1. Composing helps with depression & makes me feel better in general, plus it's great when I'm feeling overwhelmed to just plug around with chords.

2. Learnt guitar when I was 10, played in a jazz combo for 3 years, played in various other bands for 6, am now 22 and pretty much doing my own thing with another band on the side that i don't write for.

Brian Wilson, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Kraftwerk & Vektroid
1. I can express myself better through music than words.
2. I have been making music for about ten years
3.The Doors, Pink Floyd, Nine Inch Nails, Simon and Garfunkel, Death Grips

I'd say only the first 30-40 seconds are done. It's going to slowly filter down to one track. Any suggestions are appreciated.

This is the first thing I have ever made. I stayed up all night making it instead of doing my homework, cause procrastination.

I'm usually a guitar player, but I'm inspired by a wide variety of music.

1. Good form of creative expression and art
2. Began making music in 2002
3.There are different influences on different songs. Latest song had a Lazerhawk influence. The song before was influenced by the snow and the winter and a sense of isolation and the one before was influenced by a wet spring day and the subtle interludes in some of the music released by Peccatum. So basically anything and everything can have an influence.

Just music.

1. I make music simply because I enjoy it. I'm working on a rock album with other musicians at the moment under a different band name, but almost all of this music under the name "albinotron" is electronic. I just love the freedom I have to make compositions that are entirely my creations from beginning to end.

2. I've been making music since 2002, the oldest album on my discography page was recorded in 2003.

3. Venetian Snares, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Stunt Rock, and Squarepusher are probably my biggest influences.

Here is an album guide for those interested in diving into my extensive discography. Also I worked on a few projects with NMESH like "Fair and Balanced Music" and the "You're Dead to Me EP".

Prettiest sounding albums:

2. Exactly a year. Only been focusing on hiphop for the last 6 months or so.

3. Marilyn Manson, Flying Lotus, Wondagurl, The Gaslamp Killer, Hank III

Here's my latest beat. I make trap and new school hiphop with a lot of psychedelic influences, trying to take it into an artsy direction. Just kinda doing my own thing, don't give a damn about trends.

I'm a hobbyist. The catharsis involved makes it too irresistible to ever stop. The satisfaction of finishing works is the best feeling.

I've been playing a variety of instruments all throughout my life (violin as a child, then guitar, then keys, now mostly keys and the ableton.) I've been making music for about 7 years. Only recently got decent at it.
