ITT: We post hate for vinyl and vinylfags.

Shit Vinylfags Say:
>It sounds warmer.
>You appreciate music more if you actually go through the effort if looking for it. Having all of your music available at the click of a button has had a detrimental effect of people's appreciation of music.
>Vinyl actually encourages you to listen to the full album in its proper trackorder instead of being a pleb who only listens to single songs.
>You're using a Crosley? With NO COUNTERWEIGHT?!?!?! Have fun ruining all of your records.
>Life has surface noise!
>I just like collecting it for the artwork.
>>
CD/digitalfag here, i'll evaluate this bait

>>61749134
>It sounds warmer.
this is a meme that no one actually says
>You appreciate music more if you actually go through the effort if looking for it. Having all of your music available at the click of a button has had a detrimental effect of people's appreciation of music.
I agree that this is a dumb statement that comes up a lot with vinyl fans
>Vinyl actually encourages you to listen to the full album in its proper trackorder instead of being a pleb who only listens to single songs.
actually vinyl is bad for albums that flow seamlessly from one track to the next, and interrupts your music
>You're using a Crosley? With NO COUNTERWEIGHT?!?!?! Have fun ruining all of your records.
this is a good point
>Life has surface noise!
i think only r/vinyl users say this kind of stuff
>I just like collecting it for the artwork.
this isn't a bad point as part of why you collect vinyl
>>
Seems like a waste of money and it's pretentious but I don't care enough to make a thread about it
>>
>>61749193
>spending money on a 12.375"X12.375" cardboard printout of an album cover
>part of why you collect vinyl
See that's stupid
>>
>>61749251
poorfags will get mad over this
>>
>>61749276
Fool and his money...you wont be rich for long with that attitude dumbass.
>>
>>61749251
yeah i agree but packaging is one part of why people collect vinyl. the nice artwork is pleasant on their shelves

it's not a sole reason to purchase vinyl but it's not as if it isn't a plus

personally i don't like the thin and fragile cardboard covers, makes it really hard to find used records that don't have fucked up spines and bent corners and stuff that bugs me
>>
>>61749134
You forgot "You just can't get into vinyl because you're a poorfag."
>>
>>61749276
I wouldn't be opposed to someone spending money on something actually valuable
>>
ITT: "Why do people collect things?"

>>
>>61749318
Well?
>>
>>61749134
i just think it's fun
>>
>>61749318
It's more of "why do people think they're awesome for collecting things?"
>>
>>61749326
You wont be rich for long. I have plenty of money saved up because I don't waste it on material shit.
>>
>>61749377
so do I. you're just poor
>>
>>61749134
Why do you hate people who put money into the music industry?
>>
>>61749326
>poor
lol if only you knew dipshit
>>
ARRGGGH it makes me so mad when people like things that i don't like

much rather be on the good & cool side that OP is on
>>
>>61749394
No i'm not, and i don't have to prove to some cunt on the internet either. I make bank off mugs like you.
>>
>>61749276
feels good to be able to do what we want with our money.
>>
I've spent thousands of dollars on vinyl records.

Get buttblasted, you fucking fags
>>
>>61749134
why are you upset over things other people enjoy?
>>
>>61749433
I derail threads from fools like you
>>
>>61749402
The music industry sucks, plus I don't feel compelled to personally finance musicians
>>
Nothing against vinylfags, if that's the best format for you no problem. Personally, I buy cd's/dl because it's most convenient for my needs. My car has a cd player/aux cord and I spend most of my time out of the house.
>>
>>61749479
got bad news for you buddy, you're on a music board
>>
>>61749472
It's 4chan
>>
>>61749496
It's not like I pay for it though
>>
the vinyl meme is mostly dead anyway. even my most annoying tryhard friend has stopped buying them and i've literally heard all that stupid shit come out of his mouth.
>>
>>61749528
How does a hobby become dead? Your friend obviously wasn't into records if he just stopped buying them
>>
I love my jazz vinyl
>>
>>61749584
buying shit isn't a hobby
>>
>>61749643
but collecting is

collect any kind of sound i can because i do a lot of sample manipulation.

i get vinyls because i can touch them while they're playing. i get tapes because a lot of them are pretty worn out
>>
The only reason you should ever buy vinyl is if you have no other option and every intention of ripping/uploading to what and hosting on slsk.
>>
>>61749584
>How does a hobby become dead? Your friend obviously wasn't into records if he just stopped buying them
you really need to ask the first question?

i've got 3 friends that jump to mind right away who got into vinyl and now don't buy them anymore

personally i've been buying records for about 15 years now and i'll be glad when the trend dies down

>>61749527
simply love guys like this who think they're cool for not supporting the hobby they're into
>>
>>61749643
Good one m8 sick meme

>>61749673
I do because I'm replying to retards.
>>
I like vinyl because I'm an adult with disposable income and I enjoy having physical representations of the music I like
>>
>>61749193
I say it sounds warmer. I was 15 when i realized it and at that time i used internet just for online games or porn. One thing i hate about 4chan is that the most used argument against anything is "it's a meme"
>>
>>61749660
maybe if you have like 8 brain cells. hobbies are stimulating and creative. painting is a hobby. gardening is a hobby. buying oversized discs and stacking them on a shelf in your bedroom isn't a hobby.

I buy vinyl because
1) in too deep, bought too many and can't stop now
2) it supports the artist
3) I'm just going to be honest here, it gives you cred among plebs when you have a couple good vinyl, especially ones they don't know about. They come over to your house and start thumbing through your collection, and then you say "you've never heard of that?!" and play it and amaze them with your normie cred

Confirmed for buying meme albums. Records are like $12 max.
>>
>>61749861
literally any new album that comes out is $20-30
>>
>>61749861
different guy, but let me just interject here.

When the fuck was the last time you bought a record

if anything is lower than $15 it's a great deal, if it's over $25 then you're getting screwed
>>
>>61749880
>>61749922
Dance records are really cheap
>>
>>61749945
oh, I thought we WEREN'T talking about meme albums
>>
>>61749880
>>61749861
prices have gone up like $5+ an album in the last couple of years
the pressing plants can't keep up anymore
RSD is responsible for a lot of it
and then you have idiots pressing/buying the stupidest things that shouldn't even exist: http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=35434497
>>
>>61749861
>>61749922
I bought the MBDTF box set for $35 because I'm an idiot
>>
>>61749993
i'll leave alone that the mastering on that album was terrible
but that was at least a 3xLP that had reason to cost that much

Should I do it, family?
>>
>>61749968
RSD played a part, but it's more simply for the obvious fact that it's an outdated media type and current systems aren't optimized for making and selling this shit. When records were the BEST media type you could get, they made every shitty record by the tens of thousands. Pressing plants are scarce, which increases the base costs for creating vinyl records, while clogging the process with how many bands and labels suddenly want vinyl records made. This creates the present culture, which is - preorders. Incentives had to be made for people to give money ahead of time, sometimes several months ahead of time, meaning limited editions, special colored bonus feature deluxe editions etc., repressing older out-of-print albums, creating prices that are above normal.
Some labels sidestep this by just pressing new black regular versions when more are in demand, but those are a lot less coveted and considered less of an 'investment' you can make any return on.
If you buy one of those, it's not always just because everyone's trying to screw you. It makes sense sometimes.
>>
>spend 200 bucks initially on a turntable
>already have amp and speakers
>buy nothing but $0.25-$5 records from bargain bins, thrift stores, and garage sales
>loving life while finding cheesy, campy 70's folk albums
>collection is already 3 shelves big

If people try to justify collecting with anything other than "because it's fun" then they're doing it wrong.
>>
as a vinylfag, i enjoy having an auditory medium that i can eat breakfast off of
>>
>>61749959
>dance
>released as albums

Do you want to know how I know you're stupid?
>>
Old guy here. I don't collect vinyl anymore unless it's a rare album from the 60s or 70s when releases were tailored to the vinyl format. Albums such as Sgt Pepper's, Tommy, and Dark Side fit the format perfectly are are more enjoyable (for me) when listened to on my system at home
