WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED?
>>
Vinyl is a meme format pushed by corporations to trick hipsters in to buy a more expensive format that is worse than CD in every way but "packaging" which is the only thing vinylfags seem to care about.
>>
>/mu/ didn't get a crosley for crimbo

I like it because I'm afraid that the future will render all the CDs and shit I own obsolete due to disk decay. Vinyl taken care of properly will last for fucking ever.

I want my descendants to listen to good music that might not make it if new machinery ends up leaving old file formats behind.

>"Vinyl is a meme format pushed by corporations to trick hipsters in to buy a more expensive format that is worse than CD"
could be very true

>""packaging" which is the only thing vinylfags seem to care about"
lots do yes, but i don't think it's really that big of a problem. I mean artwork is a very important part of the actual album, so it's kind of like collecting a bunch of paintings that have sound on them. Plus the exclusive shit that comes with vinyl is really awesome.

Really it's just a fun way collect and listen to music. I don't see what the big issue is with it really. if you don't want to collect vinyl that's fine, if you do, that's fine.

Yeah buying the latest and greatest digital recording on vinyl doesn't make much sense anyways.

Also, you're probably broke.

Vinyl > CDs because a cd is literally a junky, useless plastic piece of garbage and vinyl is a beautiful physical product with a great sound. Anyone defending CDs is a tard... if you want digital, listen to digital files on your computer

neo-/mu/ hates vinyl

records are cool as fuck. The album art is huge, the little shit you get like posters or booklets are nice, the feeling of owning something sonic in a very physical form is something I enjoy a lot, the records themselves sometimes being they colored, in different shapes, or having shit printed on them is great.

it makes an album an experience as opposed to just something you listen to

I don't think I said anything too outlandish. CDs are a useless medium. If you want digital, listen on the computer or ipod. If you are interested in purchasing physical objects and you enjoy the experience of listening to records, get vinyl. I dgaf about hipster comments, if you disagree with what I'm saying then argue with me

CDs suck, jewel cases suck, they're only good for burning and playing in the car
>>
>it's more expensive so it's better
>it's less expensive so it's better
Preference is subjective. Based on objective factors, yes, but ultimately the choice of the one choosing. How about:
>I prefer it so it is what I do, you prefer what you do so you do that instead.
Not everything has to be a damned argument, you can have dissenting opinions without being at odds with each other.
>>
>>61723828

Sorry your favorite albums aren't available on different formats Anon?

I don't give a fuck if the music is on a hitclip.

This. It's fun as fuck to have a physical collection of your taste and experiences. I can't wait until I have kids one day and they go through my record collections 30 years from now and find music and art spanning over 150 years of music. Just like I did with my dad's records and iTunes library ect. If you don't like it, fair enough. And there certainly are cunts who have like 5 records and a crosley, but some of us have us have hi end shit with acoustically treated rooms and enjoy having our friends (yes, real life people) over to spin records and talk shit and drink piss.

Why do anons even care?

If you enjoy a format, use it, listen to music on it. Why do you care what happens to /mu/, or what format /mu/ faggots listen to?

Everyone has their reasons for choosing their own formats, and caring about what others do in the end is only going to shit up your day. If the board has changed because of an influx of X type of user, maybe its time to find like minded folk in real life who you can connect with instead of relying on the anonymous posts of random visitors for approval and social interaction.

To those worried about retards buying things for the sake of social approval and self image, if you're not smart enough to avoid these people in real life, then you're just like them.

I don't even know. I randomly started collecting records a couple of years ago. Playing a record is more interactive than playing a CD and just forgetting about it, I find. I like that sometimes. When I get sick of it, I listen to music off YouTube and Spotify. That's the thing as well, I think that if I was to choose between CDs and digital formats, I'd prefer digital format.

If CDs are to survive, they've got to reinvent their packaging.

I don't typically reply to trip fags out of principle (anon image board, you get the idea, if you want attention go somewhere else) but that idea is beyond dead.

Anyway, I understand what you mean. The real thing I'm wondering, and I have a hard time telling the difference, is if people are really fucking stupid or just posting bait. But if I were to circle how many possible bait threads there are, there would be too many, meaning a good amount of these people are probably posting seriously, making it much more sad.

For example, we KNOW this is bait. There is no attempt at discussion, the poster posts something trivial from Tumblr in an attempt to garner attention from retards dumb enough to entertain his thought in the first place. Either that or they're mad enough about it being bait to shit post in response.

Okay, gonna go get my old vinyl, got a gift, a collection of vinyl in this album kind of thing, its pretty old. Be right back guys. Need your help in learning about them. This photo is old, tried to make a thread about them but the whole Bowie thing slid it into darkness.

To be honest, I started tripfagging a while back to trigger anti-tripfags no h8 though, I like someone willing to actually discuss shit on this board for once.

I seriously think it's a huge mix of people baiting (like that post you're talking about. I don't even know what side they're actually on. Knowing this site, they might be pro- posting pseudo-pro- to bait both pro- and anti-, fuck if I know, people are crazy), people genuinely thinking they're "right" as if there is a right, and people arguing because we're on an anonymous board so why not just shitlord everything the fuck up.

Notice how our posts and my previous post (before the one you replied to) got no responses other than each other's responses. Any valid argument with reasoning or argument for the sake of actual discussion gets overlooked because it's not contributing to the shitlording.

Maybe if your common instagram chads and stacies are willing to pony up for a working system. They're usually not, so they buy crosleys because it's convenient, buy some Vampire Weekend albums, post them on their youtubes then get bored of them. That is not a significant profit for anybody. The people that consistently, constantly buy records keep the pressing plants going, and for them it isn't a fad.
There are those people who compulsively buy for any reason but listening to it, but that happens with any type of collectible. It's the same concept as buying toys and video games and never opening them.

people who can't swim drown

>>
I buy vinyl when I have money to and for fun.
>>
For me, Vinyl isn't about the music quality, or the packaging, Its about the experience.

I love going to the record store and browsing thousands of albums, feeling them, looking at them, getting them. I love getting home, opening it up, dropping it in, picking up the tonearm and dropping the needle and just sitting on the couch and enjoying the whole experience. I love the physical aspect of it, brushing, cleaning, flipping.. I love having my records on my shelf in my room. I love listening to an entire album, from track beginning to end.

Yes, I still listen to music on my phone, at work, on the radio, on the computer. But the experience, I just cant explain it. It's something that playing a playlist or buying tracks on iTunes or what ever will never ever compare to.

Does this make me a hipster?

Being on the computer is basically like staring at a wall. Probably why everyone on the internet is so depressed, staring at a wall for long enough makes you all existential
>>
>>61723946
Erm it depends, like for a vinyl rip to sound the way people like (warmth, crackling etc.) the rip has to be taken from an analog master tape but the issue a lot of people have from newer rips is that they are just made from CD copies.

So generally yes it's good because it indicates it was ripped from an analog source, and the reason it sounds that way is because Analog recordings and vinyl have issues recording bass iirc

However, It's possible that some rips are just digital rips and are mastered to specifically sound "like vinyl" because it's such a big point of contention with enthusiasts.

I don't think so though since that sounds too expensive and Vinyl is already a meme designed to extort money for the most part (excluding personal preference, artwork, bonus stuff for boxsets etc.)

I like to listen to vinyl records because when I was a little kid my mom and would sit and listen to all her old Marvin Gaye and Earth, Wind, and Fire records. She's not dead or anything, it's just fond memories. At some point I just started buying from record stores and listening other stuff. If that makes me a hipster, than I guess I'm a hipster. Although hearing girls talk about how they're "sooo dedicated to music and how they listen to Halsey on their Crosleys cuz it so indie" gets on my nerves sometimes
>>
>>61725369
Pretty much this. I like hunting down records at the local thrift shops and local record stores, found some pretty good shit for $1. I buy some new stuff I like on vinyl, but mostly like hunting down classics for cheap. Started collecting 10 or so years ago on and off, now the prices have gone up and good stuff is harder to find.
>>
As someone who actually grew up with vinyl, it got to the stage where I would just tape any new record and put it back in my shelf to take up spacee. By the second half of the 80s I didn't even bother and just bought the tape in the first place to get the nice dolby sound.

Vinyl sucks and I'm glad I sold all my records as soon as I bought a CD player.
