>people are allowed to rate music this way on rym
can someone explain what's wrong with a positive rating system
it's only autistic in the sense that you shouldn't really focus on rating systems to begin with but if it helps someone with shit like organization then more power to them
There's absolutely nothing wrong with such a system, it's just that Montie is a little insecure about his garbage thread so he finds pleasure in trashing other people's taste/profiles/rating systems
All of their major albums are better than that indie schlock
Are you happy now?
i like how montie booked it the second you pulled up his ratings
honestly it's surreal how stupid he is, ever have a conversation with him?
don't get mad cuz your disorder is a meme anon
have you ever taught a child anything
you know how you have to start from the bottom and slowly work your way up
literally the same thing. he'll deny it as he has but he can't see it himself cuz he's obviously developmentally stunted
An idiot with garbage taste who lacks any semblance of self-awareness, who happens to have a grotesque looking girlfriend
No and that's a good thing. All I ever see him posting on /mu/ are low quality memes or Oasis
Tripfags have been an important part of chan culture long before you started coming here
it serves the rest
i dont rate for the rest, neve rin my life ill check other peoples 3.5s, or 4s. i only click the 5s even if you have the most severe system of al time.
therefore i want delimitation for my hate levels. there is a big difference between an artist that is painful to listen to, to someone that is uninteresting.
>tfw I rate most albums I listen to 3.5 or 4
come the FUCK at me hampus wannabes
pretty sure i've seen this guy before. what's the point of having a rating system obviously set up to look authoritative (as evidenced by his description) if all you listen to is scaruffi shit with barely any sign of wanting to branch out
lol @ him rating discographies of bands and artists he doesn't like, as if he's heard them to begin with.
why go through a discography of someone/something you apparently end up hating when you can listen to the discographies of shit you enjoy
0/10 makes no sense
you know there's other music i enjoy right
how to get xusosis taste:
1. go to boomkat.com
2. go to "browse"
3. under genres, select "industrial/wave/electro"
4. pick a random album
5. give it 5 stars on RYM
congratulations, you are now xusosis!
problem with album rating is that you might give a whole album a 2.5 when it has a good song or two on it - that's a possibility for AC/DC there
you shouldn't only listen to things you expect to like, or you might never be surprised and giving some hair metal low scores advertises you don't care for hair metal perhaps? nothing wrong with letting people know also about the things you aren't keen on
yea that's very true, but that dude seems to do that with many other bands from that era
rym is a weird place
you mean 3 stars? because that means it's good. you have a very skewed view on me.
I haven't even shown up yet. Lmao
Here is my curve by the way
Why the fuck do trips exist? Every single time one posts its inane bullshit that derails the thread. On like every board too. bugguy on /an/ to big guy on /fa/. None have ever said anything worthwhile.
Considering that most music is shit, there's probably nothing really wrong with this.
Having said that, I don't see why anybody would even bother rating that many lousy records, seems like a waste of time.
I saw Sal at a record store in Brooklyn yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person and congratulated him on killing his brother, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “wantmetokillyoutoobitch” and shoving pictures of his cat in my face. I walked away and continued shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Loren Connors LPs in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be busy and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the records and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually to prevent any electrical "infetterence" (I don't even think that's a real word), and then turned around and winked at me. After she scanned each LP and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by saying "Tubba blubba" really loudly.
It was pretty surreal.
The fact that it's bad music is irrelevant, the problem is that he gave those high score in order to fit in on this shitty board. Proof? He had Coldplay and Oasis in his 5s as well, but since people shat on him for listening to them, he now pretends to not like them.
he looks like this and will get your account banned if you don't refer to him as a "her"
I divide my ratings into 5, 3, and .5 to denote whether I Thought something was great-godtier, good-average/mediocre, and ,I didn't like it/fucking terrible.
I find that applying more specific number ratings is ultimately arbitrary and pointless.
You think it's okay to be banned from a music site for not instinctively agreeing with the gender definitions of a bunch of mentally ill rymers?
Sharifi was supposed to ban politics for this very reason but somehow this bullshit still creeps in. T_J is a massive trend hopper, the same way TCB wasn't "non-binary" until they became an rym forum personality.
Rym really declined after the avant-friends left and everyone started to pretend being "trans"-something.
He also added a few token jazz & classical albums just to appear "patrish"
To be fair, he seems knowledgeable about 1 subject, which is more than I can say about the rest of the newtrips
Bad taste, not to mention mentally ill, best to ignore them.
Most music is shit like 90% of everything is so why are you listening so much to the shit. You must be shit at choosing music to listen to if you listen to that much trash. Itäs like what Schopenhauer said about books. "One can never read too little of bad, or too much of good books: bad books are intellectual poison; they destroy the mind. In order to read what is good one must make it a condition never to read what is bad; for life is short, and both time and strength limited." Why poison your mind and waste time and strength on bad music?
I find it hard to tell how much they've actually listened to but when you realise how much of a no-life Horb is it's possible they've listened to everything they've rated at least once so I'll give him props for that but I don't find his genre tourism that useful.
Also he isn't as annoying anymore compared to others.
Maybe if you pick books (and music) at random. You could be listening to what's considered masterpieces like the classical repertoire or studying folk song like the Child ballads, or listening to and studying the most important and influential popular music in whatever areas you prefer if that's your thing. Just as you could be reading the most respected classics by great authors rather than random trash. Lindy effect is something to keep in mind, classical literature has established itself as worthwhile and isn't going anywhere, but something released this year could be obsolete, forgotten, or otherwise shown as insignificant the year after. No excuse for consuming enormous amounts of shit.
Fair point, but at the same time that discourages any sort of creativity, or it could also make people feel compelled to rewrite the same stories over and over again to try and emulate those stories and the pool of creativity stagnates. Like the movie industry with all the rehashing of the heroes journey
How does that discourage creativity? Going for random rubbish to look unique or different and seem more "creative" seems like anti-intellectualism and embracing fashionable nonsense. You also act as if there's not enough respected works to have unique and creative taste within, or as if you can't make unique art of your own without listening (or reading) aimlessly.
I'm not saying to search for random pieces of obscure literature to look more cultured, what I am saying is that are more to literature than just the tried and true classics. Obviously we should read those, but at the same time we should shelve exploration of other books. Just imagine how much great and fantastic books we'd be losing if we decided to solely focus on the ones that have been recognized as being classic
The hero's journey IS the quintessential story, and damn near every single story ever written in some way emulates it, unless you're Samuel Beckett or some shit you probably shouldn't be trying to subvert it, because you'll just fucking fail.
Except most books that you read that aren't classic aren't doing something new anyway. Joyce is a classic author and the shit he did is is incredibly fucking groundbreaking. You've made a dichotomy where none really exists. I think you've got a better point in regards to music specifically, as it's probably the most abstract art-form of them all, and what should and shouldn't be valued in music is much more subjective than any narrative medium.
Because consistency is vastly overrated. Also, this method accurately describes what my favorite albums, using a very simple rating method (a lot easier than determining it's overall rating without the peaks).
I don't dislike any music, so the bottom of my scale should be a 5.0 (what's usually considered to be a "neutral" reaction by most).
First month on /mu/?
Bazuka - Dynomite – Part I / Dynomite – Part II
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica
Cardiacs Sing to God
Jabbo Smith - Jazz Battle / It's Tight Like That
The Books - The Lemon of Pink
Tipographica - God Says I Can't Dance
Various Artists - The Sounds of Earth: Voyager Golden Record
Still have yet to give an album the lowest rating. I tend to avoid albums that I know are going to be shit.
I hate most trips but to say they're the reason for /mu/ being shit is ridiculous. /mu/ has been shit since its inception, and the same problems will continue until it's either deleted or 4chan itself dies.
>go check all time singles
>two the two bowie singles moved up like 3 spots each since like a month ago
