RECORD COLLECTION THREAD
Post yours, rate others, say what are you looking forward to purchase.
Pic related, these are my records. I upgrade my collection every week currently searching for In the aeroplane over the sea, recess, loveless, the money store and tpab
>considering starting a record collection
>see that new vinyls cost $18 minimum but usually go for $25-28
They make for really, really nice art and all, which is why I'd be buying them in the first place. And I'm still tempted. But holy shit, just 4 albums and you're already in it for over $100 and 10 albums and you're in it $200-250+.
Plus it feels so hipstery since I didn't grow up with records
I've bought 50+ records in a years time and have enjoyed them so much I didn't really think about what they've costed me
I make ok money though so I guess a hobby like this isn't too bad
that's if you're dumb about things
people constantly selling their records in and putting brand new records out at significantly dropped prices
I got a 2003 artpunk band's debut LP, gold vinyl limited to 2000, for less than 8 bucks in VG+ condition because no one knows who they are
i've snagged great world music records for less than 10 bucks
unfortunately really great stuff like SF Sorrow or Tago Mago....that shit costs a lot to get early pressings of
also record collecting is a community. Not just a dumb solo hobby
Finally got my 1985 Butthole Surfers EP Creamed Corn from the Sockett of Davis. Gotta love going to Florida. But I've been collecting for years now.
I'd be interested in getting mostly new stuff. There are a bunch of new albums I'd love to have on vinyl just for how beautiful they look and nicely designed they are. It just bothers me that I've gotta pay a fad premium since vinyls are such a thing right now. On the other hand if they weren't a thing maybe they wouldn't be available on vinyl.
I make decent money, but I don't like wasting it. I guess I could just buy a few records and a nice player and take it from there...
You really don't have to pay that much though, people sell back new vinyl all the time, and you can buy it then. Lesser known new bands will get their prices knocked down a week or two after release. Not shopping at large chain vinyl stores, but instead going to little local places also cuts cost way down.
Buy record equipment like players, speakers and amps from places like Goodwill and estate sales, Its much better made, quality vintage equipment at a fraction of the price of vintage audio stores, and much better quality than the modern crossley type bullshit that's still triple the price.
When my friend died his gf gave me his records. I parted with them but wanted to keep something as a memento. This is the only one I kept. Sleeve is scuffed, record is ok.
>all that dust
>cassettes in front of receiver
>unorganized as fuck
Started collecting not too long ago. How am I doing so far guys?
that's pretty damn swell for starting out. Are those all reissues?
Be sure to keep an eye out for any early Beefheart records. Sometimes you can snag 'em for dirt cheap. Got Mirror Man for way less than i should have because it's not a meme
a few select picks for your memelicious tastes
just treated myself today and picked up For Alto, Creative Music Orchestra 1976, Escalator Over the Hill, The Topography of the Lungs, Metal Box, and Black One
Just picked up Blackstar yesterday
Really I was going to buy the one of his website but it sold out and i just saw that on the B and N website. Is it the same one I'm surprised it's going for so much already
What's wrong with colored/non-black vinyl?
Sure sometimes they look tacky and cheap, but there are times that they work fine.
Buying Blackstar and Art Angels next week hopefully.
If you want to get a moving coil cartridge, remember that you can't replace the stylus on these, and it may require an additional amplifier stage because MCs has a microvolt output.
also own emergency & i, dark side of the moon, enter the wu tang, and illmatic but i lent them all to a friend yesterday
What's a good moving coil step-up transformer? I've never owned a moving coil cartridge before. Everything I find on google is crazy overpriced. (pic related is £350 for some reason)
That Clarence Clarity comes with gold vinyl btw
just got these bad boys recently
i love unwound so much
Goddamn that is a lame fucking "collection". Why would you even bother buying any of that shit. Please don't post here again.
Really this whole thread makes me embarrassed for getting into record collecting.
records shipped from halfway around the world make me nervous
CDs are just so lame as a physical copy though. I have plenty but it doesnt feel as special as having a big beautiful vinyl record. I understand that the sound quality is better on CD but vinyl is just a completely different, and in my opinion, a more satisfying experience.
Recent purchases. I'm new to viny so I'm just getting a lot of my personal essentials. Except for JC Superstar which I haven't listened to before, but it was 4 bucks so why not. Even came with the original lyrics booklet thing.
I'm from Tennessee and I see Jesus Christ Superstar and other christian garbage at every thrift store and goodwill. First time I read "Jesus Christ Superstar" I laughed my ass off.
Not the best setup but it's a shared dorm room so I have to make do with what I have
Record + CD collection shown

Forgot to add. I've since gotten a turntable and put protective sleeves on all my LPs.
Just grabbed the felt-covered release of DC.
I don't suppose anyone would know a place to purchase the LP of Clinging to a Scheme by The Radio Dept?
It's sold out everywhere I look.
