This came yesterday, very happy I pre-ordered it.
>>
>considering starting a record collection
>see that new vinyls cost $18 minimum but usually go for $25-28

They make for really, really nice art and all, which is why I'd be buying them in the first place. And I'm still tempted. But holy shit, just 4 albums and you're already in it for over $100 and 10 albums and you're in it $200-250+.

Plus it feels so hipstery since I didn't grow up with records
>>
>>61691622

buy used if your into older music. you can build a nice collection of classics for 1-5$ an album
>>
>>61691622
I've bought 50+ records in a years time and have enjoyed them so much I didn't really think about what they've costed me

I make ok money though so I guess a hobby like this isn't too bad
>>
>>61691622
that's if you're dumb about things

people constantly selling their records in and putting brand new records out at significantly dropped prices

I got a 2003 artpunk band's debut LP, gold vinyl limited to 2000, for less than 8 bucks in VG+ condition because no one knows who they are

i've snagged great world music records for less than 10 bucks

unfortunately really great stuff like SF Sorrow or Tago Mago....that shit costs a lot to get early pressings of

also record collecting is a community. Not just a dumb solo hobby

I'd be interested in getting mostly new stuff. There are a bunch of new albums I'd love to have on vinyl just for how beautiful they look and nicely designed they are. It just bothers me that I've gotta pay a fad premium since vinyls are such a thing right now. On the other hand if they weren't a thing maybe they wouldn't be available on vinyl.

I make decent money, but I don't like wasting it. I guess I could just buy a few records and a nice player and take it from there...
>>
>>61692036
I only buy a couple every couple of months or so now, just space it out
>>
>>61692036
vinyl is the plural of vinyl

also vinyl is just the medium. Would you refer to CDs as "plastics"?

and money enjoyed on a great constructive hobby isn't really wasted
>>
>>61692036
You really don't have to pay that much though, people sell back new vinyl all the time, and you can buy it then. Lesser known new bands will get their prices knocked down a week or two after release. Not shopping at large chain vinyl stores, but instead going to little local places also cuts cost way down.
>>
>>61692036
Buy record equipment like players, speakers and amps from places like Goodwill and estate sales, Its much better made, quality vintage equipment at a fraction of the price of vintage audio stores, and much better quality than the modern crossley type bullshit that's still triple the price.

If you want to get a moving coil cartridge, remember that you can't replace the stylus on these, and it may require an additional amplifier stage because MCs has a microvolt output.
