I wouldn't be surprised if before he died, he chose someone to take over the David Bowie persona to do tours, maybe even record a album under his name (that was probably already written by him. I imagine David has a bunch of songs written he never recorded.)
I could have sworn I read somewhere that he chose Michael C Hall to be the new face of Bowie.
