Good ol' Vargy edition
What were they thinking /meal/?
let me anatomize the incorrectness of this statement
- they've done one album with any deathcore influence
- their musicianship puts basically every actual nu-metal band to shame
- their lyricism and aesthetic has nothing to do with the genre stereotypes, seriously, find me one comparable artist outside of japanese bands influenced by them
Anyone here into Batushka? They popped up on my youtube recommended vids and I've been jamming them ever since.
Any other death metal bands that organically tie in Orthodox chanting and the like? I really like it.
I mean you might not like them, but they're certainly not generic by any reasonable standards. Find me something from another band that sounds like this.
Yeah, what this thread needs is some ROTN discussion.
I think that their EP is better than Welcame
>Not picky or cynical in the slightest
>While I like discovering and listening to what /mu/ and /metal/ likes I like an absolute plethera of music hated here, will like pretty much anything rock/metal related as long as it's not pure shit
>Don't really belong here, absolutely hate reddit
where do I go /metal/?
stay here in /metal/ to look for new shit and discuss stuff that overlaps with our tastes senpai. /v/ and /b/ have occassional metal threads that generally circlejerk what /metal/ hates so you can go there for your memejent or nu-butt-clown-groove-progcore fix.
also it's largely just banter, your taste is probably still shit but we're just shooting the piss desu senpai
I know you just want some (You)'s so I'll give you another one while telling you that every single person in this thread (myself included) has shit-taste in music. Just learn to toss around some bantz of your own and have a fun time.
wasn't it a running joke that this album would never be released or am I thinking of something else
I regret this already
I don't want to be a faggot but holy fucking shit there's not a redeemable metal band on that chart.
Who /lightthiscity/ here?
Why were they the best Melodeath band of the mid-2000s?
Not gonna lie, I've definately just started really exploring music lately, plus I'm starting to realize that my musical preferences may fall differently than your typical /mu/tants.
>Tfw my brother is a piece of shit stoner who lives with his mom and has no future and is definitely gonna die in some gutter high as fuck
>Tfw I'm a piece of shit NEET who spends his day talking about memes on a chinese cartoon board and fucking up his college career
The only reason I haven't killed myself is because I don't want my mother to know how much of a failure both her children are
When my mom's dead, when I have no one left to care about me, I'm taking myself off the face of this planet
In the meantime, metal for this feel?
Nothing wrong with exploring. It just kinda looks like you have a blend of /mu/core and wank prog. Personally your chart makes me want to vomit, but everyone has shit taste at first.
Just memes. I want to say like what you like, but at the same time I will never fathom why people wank off to Dream Theater so much.
Shit, Revocation is in my top 5 but I've only seen praise for them from myself.
Oh, I absolutely hate modern Dream Theater, they're self-titled was an absolute abomination. First album I've ever listened to that I felt genuinely insulted by.
I liked the new track they dropped though, cheesy as all hell but it reminded me of Images and Words.
+all that emo
Have you listened to algae bloom? great lo-fi/bedroom sounding emo
A couple of days ago, a bunch of you said you were going to check out pic related.
Any of you ITT? curious to know what you thought
I checked it out and loved it, I made this list
I was going to put my favorite CC on it and realized I liked Skeletal Domain more so I put it on my top 100 atm list. I'm sure I will lower my opinion over it over time but right now since it's so fresh in my mind its my favorite CC
is he right /metal/? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozmc2Qu9FJc
I agree with you, Revocation is a pretty good band, though not many people seem to agree. In fact you are the first person I've seen on this board that's also has Revocation in their top 5.
lovin all dat black/death and inquisition
Help me expand my album collection
listen to this and Rotting christ- triarchy of lost lovers
How come /metal/ hate BTBAM so much now.
I could've sworn everyone here loved them a few years back.
Is it just one of those "board culture has changed" sort of things?
>HeXen reaction image
stoner/drone/doom with cursory interest in thrash/black pleb here
enlighten me and give recs
here, it has 0 melody
Yeah kind of shit senpai
Listen to Hell, it's pretty good blackened funeral/drone doom
If you're ready to go all in with black metal then just look up charts on the /mu/ wiki or something
But you may like some slow-moving atmoshit like Burzum's Filosofem and Hvis Lyset Tar Os, Midnight Odyssey, and Weakling
Thrash metal idk
>It's more that they squandered their old potential
Thinking about it, they did go downhill after Colors
Coma Ecliptic was my biggest disappointment of 2015. One more bad album and I'm pretty sure it's very much the end times for the band
Look at mine again, I have 3.
Based on your tastes I recommend:
Zonaria (Hypocrisy worship, melodeath):
Dissection (melodic black metal):
Panzerchrist (blackened death):
Dokken (heavy/glam metal)
Its more that death metal tends to focus on song writing while black metal has always been basic as fuck and thus attracts people who take the view of music having inherent emotional qualities rather than "emotion" being more what the individual listener associates with the music.
this triggered me but then I remembered >>61676548
personally I think dm is generally so much more expressive there's not even a comparison and all but the absolute best bm sounds like cheap atmospherics posing as 'deep'
listen to me desu
this album is goddamn prophetic. right from the start: a song about a possibly unstable homeless man who believes he sees the future. Then songs about almost sci-fi like issues, in the sense that sci-fi just exaggerates existing problems. This albums tackles gender issues, totalitarian government, about technology replacing our personalities, civil war, and possibly the most prevalent problem we have right now; overpopulation
all in the tone of a man who knows how fucking fucked everybody is, knows we are doomed, and knows we can do nothing to stop it.
So I consider it emotionally expressive.
Most black metal is just satan grr
doom is some of the most emotional in terms of pure sentiment as opposed to more vital, directed feels. nothing just wrecks me like a bit of Warning even though I know viewed objectively it should be cheesy as fuck
what you are doing is the equivalent of putting your hands over your ears and saying lalalalalalala
you said tech-death was unemotional. I showed you two albums I considered emotionally expressive. I haven't called you names, and one guy from your side called me a faggot.
And now you're shutting me out after starting this.
184th for thrashcore
you are the one who came with a snarky fucking comment
i stated my opinion and you keep trying to make it into an argument
kill yourself kid
>oh boy are we talking about how death metal is and always will be better than black metal
>this song is actually being fucking taught in top-tier universities
>tfw can remember when they were small with a core fanbase
Time flies, /metal/.
says the black metal fan
I posted an album in response to your comments, without any words, and one of your side called me a faggot. Then I started in with my opinion.
>metal being taught at Sydney Conservatorium of Music of all places
When are we going to start seeing pigs fly?
you started it dude
if you want to have civil discussion you dont twist somones words into an argument
i like death metal and black metal i just think one is more expressive than the other
maybe you should learn social skills before you try to communicate with people
Man you're bitching about nothing. The comment was directed at no one. You were talking about black metal being better than death, and I said death was better than black. And you called me edgy, asshole. You started this.
this is fucking 4chan the fuck're you talking about.
how exactly did I start this anyway? Just chronologically, you were saying black was better than death first. You can't say that kinda shit without people disagreeing, and you know that.
It's still fucking mindblowing, never once did I think people who actually studied classical would praise metal on the same level.
Most classical listeners actually aren't pretentious snobs (some are though) and fairly open minded. Classical music itself has a ton of different stylistic periods. Studying the composition of more complicated metal bands would be pretty interesting.
i like both though
youre the one trying to argue with me
im laughing at how mad you are
just because i think one is more emotionally expressive than the other doesnt mean i think the other is worse
so you did start it and you won't deny it. you've abandoned all arguments and devolved into saying I'm mad and you're not. You won't respond with rational thoughts.
And we're both arguing. If you didn't want to argue you could leave anytime. Just stop replying.
so suck a corpsepainted frostbitten veiny and grim dick
Since ne obliviscaris is official classicalfagcore, let's play a game, /metal/. You're a professor at some music university and you have to pick a metal song to add to the curriculum and be deeply studied and dissected. What song do you pick?
This? This is what you're going with? Do you want the last word or something?
You might think just not posting would be submission or something, admitting you're wrong when you still believe you're not, but trust me man, it's the best way out of this scenario.
I just like arguing.
The ones with the X
If it's not much to ask
I didnt knew you make those charts with RYM
Satanic Warmaster - Carelian Satanist Madness
Sarcofago - INRI
>brazilian? proto-black thrash/death
Adversarial -Death, Endless Nothing and the Black Knife of Nihilism
>black/death, war metal
Pig Destroyer - Terrifyer
Full of Hell & Merzbow
>noisegrind, collab with famous noise musician
Crowpath - Son of Sulphur
>grindy, deathy mathcore, like a death metal TDEP/Converge, concept album about an arsonist
top right- Carelian Satanist Madness
2nd 2nd- inri
last on second is Death, Endless Nothing and the Black Knife of Nihilism
4th 1st is pig destoryer- Terrifyer
4rth 3rd is Full Of Hell & Merzbow
5th 3rd is Crowpath - Son Of Sulphur
one of these
though >>61677849 is also a good choice
>that VUVR album
Oh my god that thing has some of the most intricate songwriting I've ever heard. Both guitar parts and the bass will play different parts, but it all fits together so well.
>The Pogues and Ahab both used a classical painting for their cover
So did Crippled Black Phoenix and Be'lakor
not many bands sound like NeO and i wouldn't call them neoclassical really. if you mean bands with violinists, there's not much to choose from that rivals tim's musicianship - the prog metal band Jethzabel maybe? Or Unexpect? Their violin work isn't too prominent though.
Bully the shit out of me, please. Then rec me some shit.
Just started getting back into metal, so thats why this is so metal light.
JK you got some good albums on there
I know you guys don't like Dream Theater, but what do you think about Symphony X?
They areprobably the second most popular and influential prog metal band after DT
one of the popularizers of chugpower, not really a fan
i do like some of the bands they influenced but honestly they were late to the prog/power/neoclassical thing, angra and marge litch both did it first, and rhapsody were contemporary.
Alright my man, for you I rec:
Weakling, American black metal. Laid the groundwork for Liturgy, WITTR, Deafheaven, basically every American blackgaze blackwhatever not-pure black metal band is in some way influenced by these guys. And it's actually good:
The Absence, great American melodeath. Very easy listening to get you back into the metal mood:
Mistur, project of ex-Windir members after Valfar accidentally froze to death, folk-y black metal:
Gloryhammer, fun power metal, ignore anyone that says anything otherwise:
Enslaved, viking metal (black/folk), Frost is an often overlooked album by a band with a metric shitton of great albums:
influential =/= popular.
I'd argue that Voivod's among the most influential prog bands of all time and even though they never really reached an incredibly large crowd, their influence is nearly everywhere.
the most influential prog metal bands are
Don't listen to this guy >>61678827
Start with classic heavy metal, then work your way to more extreme stuff. As much as I hate to say this, stay away from super obscure stuff at first, otherwise you're going to do what I did and think a lot of stuff is amazing that isn't. Get the basics, then braoden.
This is a pretty good chart, certainly not the only one tho.
Listen to Black Sabbath's Paranoid:
Judas Priest's Painkiller:
Megadeth's Rust in Peace(playlist to get the un-remastered edition, trust me it matters):
Listen to these, and then report back with which one you liked most for recs according to that.
that's the same thing three time now anon
Why continue this? What do you hope to gain? Do I sound mad? You whined about being argued with and when I let up, give you an out, you insist that I'm mad.
I'm not angry at you, Anon.
I'm just disappointed.
Will there be a better prog metal than pic related?
>song's 8 minutes long
>not even 4 minutes passed when you posted
>that "was" terrible
How fucking pleb can you get?
I need more post-metal. Like this kind with all its melancholy and harmony
