Morrissey was a Bowie fan for years, and in the 90s Bowie reciprocated the love with a cover of "I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday". He even sung it in the "Ziggy" voice which he hadn't used in years. So it was clear that Bowie genuinely respected Moz, and it probably hurt him a lot when he quit the tour.

Morrissey didn't even give notice, to ANYONE. Nigga just walked out before he was supposed to go onstage. He said in the press "When you're there you're expected to just worship at the altar of Bowie" or something equally bitchy. When you look at the accounts of other people involved at the tour, it's obvious that his ego just couldn't handle being an opening act.
This was the mid 90's so while Bowie was far from his heyday he was still in a better spot than Morrissey.

They had this cool segue between acts where Bowie would come on stage gradually and Morrissey would leave gradually. Years later, Moz claimed THAT was why he left, that it didn't give him & his band enough of opportunity to leave the audience/wrap up their act. What a fuckin laugh. The bandmates he left hanging certainly must have thought so.

From then on like previously mentioned he would turn up his nose whenever the topic of Bowie was brought up, saying he was washed up, irrelevant, etc. All without a trace of irony or self-awareness.

I hope cancer gets him next. See how HE handles a terminal diagnosis.
