What does /mu/ think of Mana-sama?

I love him. People can't take his music seriously and I can understand why, but Malice Mizer is still one of my favourite bands of all time.

Nice, I really like early Malice Mizer.
This is actually one of my favorite songs by them

Yeah, early Malice Mizer is great. Early Gackt period is also good.

My favourite album is Bara no Seidou though

I mean, I don't think there's a single song in Malice Mizer that I outright dislike. My favorite period is early/Tetsu, but with Gackt they put out a lot of their greatest works too, and yeah early Gackt is great as it still has that Memoire sound in tracks like Shi no buto or Tsuioku no kakera. Shi no buto's lyrics were actually writen by Tetsu iirc. Such a shame there were a lot of songs with Tetsu that never got proper studio recordings, but luckily there's a lot of bootleg live shows and recordings on youtube, back in the late90s/early 00s finding those kind of things was next to impossible if you weren't a hardcore trader of rare material in Japan.

by the way what do you think of Girl'e?

Yeah, I love those bootleg recordings. I don't really mind Girl'e that much, but Matenrou is really cool and sounds a lot like Malice Mizer

I also enjoy their short comfy pop period

I wish their early stuff was easier to get in physical format. Sadness was only ever released on cassette, right?
Tetsu>Khala>Gackt
although this might be their best song

I actually like all three vocalists as much.

Apres Midi is one of my favorites! I actually own the uruwashiki/apres midi single, as well as Memoire.
Also have the Beast of Blood, Bel Air and Gekka singles, used to have Garnet but sold it to a friend. That's all I have of physical Mizer music, but yeah, Sadness was only released on tape and buying those tapes is pretty expensive, although maybe not as much as years back. Maybe it's just me but I think Mana/Malice Mizer's popularity declined with time. Their demos pop up every now and then on japanese auctions sites, but you've got to be careful not to get scammed with a fake.
Also agree Matenrou is amazing, basically proto-MM.
I like the band of Matenrou's drummer JUN, called Hisui.

Totally agree about the vocalists and while Bel Air is not my favorite song by them, it's on the top 10 for sure. Amazing guitar work by Mana and Kozi.

Nice collection. I've got Bara no Seidou, Merveilles, Memoire and the Garnet single. Pretty jelly of the uruwashiki/apres midi and Beast of Blood. I really want all the three last singles, as post-bara no seidou is probably my favourite of their periods.

It's sad how these never ended up on an album because of their indefinite hiatus, but at least they played them at the Budokan concert.
Oh what I'd give to be there?

I seem to remember there was a tentative title for the 5th album, I think one of the new songs was called "Maria" (lol, most generic VK song title ever).
Not sure if that was legit though, but I remember coming across that many, many years ago.
it's really a shame we never got a 5th album, but in perspective, Bara no seidou is the perfect final album.
>tfw you got to meet him in 2009
>>61635610
did he speak?
I still enjoy malice micer, maybe it's a lot of nostalgia involved but who cares? Every time I started a thread about them it ended in lol anime. People don't give them a chance. I like the production/action and you don't see it everyday.

It's a really unique band. But it was always hard to find people to discuss about them that weren't just fangirls that lusted after Mana-sama or Gakuto. But I actually met a few Mizer fans that ended up being pretty interesting people with good tastes and not the typical otaku/fangirl.
GACKT DID NOTHIMG WRONG!
