Ayyy time to start these again
>argue with people who like digital
Altar and Ummagumma were off discogs and the others were from my local shop
My friend just gave me his old AT-LP 120 for super cheap. I don't own any speakers yet, what would be a decent set up? I have like 200 bucks or so to invest. Should I get active speakers like audio engine or would it be better/cheaper get an amp and all that?
I really like the idea of vinyl and having physical media but its so fucking expensive, the most legitimate reason to buy vinyl is to support the artist, but usually that only means buying direct.
The main problem I have with vinyl is that it is an epitome of materialism. When you can receive "the same media" (even though it really isn't) for a fraction of the cost and at magnitudes of greater convenience, it really makes buying vinyls seem like collecting and impulse purchasing shiny things.
I'd rather buy a t-shirt than a vinyl, but to each their own.
I collect almost entirely for sentimentality and resale. I mean, I listen, too, but damn, I stream and get digital of most stuff. It's just a thing. And it's not prohibitively expensive. Only if you don't have a job, really.
What the hell is this? This isn't Allelujah don't Bend Ascend.. They shipped the wrong record.
Anyone else like looking at pictures of record stores? It's just neat to see rows upon rows of vinyl, especially when you can spot some of your favorite albums in the pic
Or am I just autist?
Not autistic at all. I remember one thread we had a field day finding cool shit in this
just picked up a load of 1940-70 records at a state sale and i'm going through them. I cant find any release date information on this gypsy record though. It says RL 1914 on the back but I think thats when the artist was born.
>tfw no molok vinyl
You raise really good points. And I totally concur on the first point, that buying vinyl is the best way to support an artist.
Your second point scares me. Is collecting vinyl only conspicuous consumption?
