People would just go back to pirating, which gives the artist absolutely no money, if streaming were to go away. At least streaming gives artists something, even if we're talking fractions of a penny.

Anyway, if he hates streaming so much, why doesn't he take is music off? Last I checked, The Microphones were on Spotify.

No hes saying that streaming music is stealing which is literally under no interpretation true because you have to pay to stream music.

The beautiful irony behind it is that all of his music is available on Spotify.

>And recently his house got raided for CP.

no one in his family was a suspect and it happened when they weren't even home

but still, fuck gene simmons
>>
>>61627413
This is the correct answer. Studies have show that the vast amount of streams hasn't cut into album sales but rather drastically reduced the amount of musical piracy. The small decrease in sales is offset by the small revenue generated by streaming services, so the net result to the industry is nothing
>>
>>61627460
how brainwashed do you have to be to actually think piracy is stealing
>>
he's right

>>
>>61627413
Piracy doesn't hurt the industry. Most music services take a huge revenue off the artist's pay. Add the label's revenue to that and you can see why companies are so eager to battle piracy.
The solution? Stream to explore and buy the stuff you like if you can find it. Bandcamp's great at providing a service that doesn't fuck artists, fans, or even labels over.
>>
>>61627311
I do also think that streaming is wrong. For that reason I only obtain my shit on what.cd and Soulseek.

>>
>>61627864
You could probably argue that when you pirate, you're helping a bad community thrive. Which in turn allows for more and more stuff to be pirated.
>>
This is very confusing, the only album that he has tracks unavailable for streaming is his very last, is Phil an autist or is he unaware of what he's referring to?
>>
>>61627864
In terms of directly supporting the musicians it is, but if you're buying used from a record store you help keep the record store open, which keeps that infrastructure alive. If it weren't for the used market I don't think any old record stores would have stuck it out long enough for there to be a vinyl revival

Not to guilt trip anyone, but streaming is bullshit. If one likes an artists music enough they should take time to invest in the artists they like even at a minimum. Bandcamp gives you a chance to download music for free depending on the artist. Get the song for free but try to get $¥€£ to the artist later down the line.
>>
On the otherhand if you own an album on: record, taoe, cd, 8trk, fucken reel to reel getting free digital copies of that album shouldnt be frowned upon
>>
>>61628002
I agree. It's funny though, some of the artists I most wish to give my money to are the ones who only put it up for free, albums no longer in print or they disappeared. I wish they would upload their stuff on bandcamp and see if they can get any money to maybe be able to afford selling physical copies or to be able to record again.

Since stealing is wrong, I guess I'll delete all my pirated music and buy every album I can afford (like 9 albums tops) and never ever discover good music again! Thanks Phil!
>>
>>61627523
>bandcamp doesnt fuck with artists
they are retroactively taking fee's away from artists now, meaning that if you dont sell that much music you are actually indebted to bandcamp and small monies you make goes straight to them now

tl;dr bandcamp is as bad as anything else
>>
>>61628959
idk about this.. bandcamp is providing a service to you/your band by giving you a platform to showcase your music on which has lots of useful features for sharing music.

It seems like they're getting paid the same revenue as before, and it's just the method that's changed, but correct me if I'm wrong.
>>
We are past the point of music having any economic value
>>
streaming music is shit. Just pirate or buy physically
>>
>>61629225
>>61629060
All I know is that the last time I got paid a $1 for a song on my bandcamp they deducted all kinds of revenue share fees and my total ended up being 0. A band I know posted a screen shot with the same scenario, so it is not just me.

Being anti-piracy is actually pretty racist.

People who can't afford to buy music should just not ever listen to music? Wow, okay. Secondly, most people (at least in the US) who make much less and live in lower income areas are mostly POCs. Simply put, when you're against a lower social class, whether you mean to or not, you are actually being very racist by denying these people a good or service.

What if I don't like what people are broadcasting on the radio? What if I don't like top 40 or the quirky indie shit they play on college radio or NPR? Am I fucked then? Say I wanted to listen to this album from Japan (I actually haven't even listened to this yet). This will never be played in the US. If I want to abide by this (racist) anti-piracy code, I can't watch it on YouTube or stream it. So then I just can't listen to it, right? Thanks Phil for putting people of color down because of your white man feelings.

Bandcamp artist here, what they do is take X percentage from your profit every time you make a sale, and add it to a tally. You get the full sale from each time your music is bought until the tally reaches a certain amount (usually a couple of dollars), then next time someone buys your music all of the money goes to BC and that amount is subtracted from the tally.

It's pretty stupid but it's just a more complicated way of saying "we get an X% cut". Bandcamp is very much a good-guy company and as far as I know they try to explain it clearly on their site.

Though it varies, this is the stat I got:
>30 percent Hispanic

>6 percent non-white

Meaning 42 percent (much more than any POC) are white. Though most poor people are POCs, the largest racial group of poor people are white.

Sorry.
