I've heard someone say that they didn't like how mediocre the singing/instrument playing was, but it was still a "meh it's alright" opinion and he didn't seem to hate it.

Yeah, people shit on it all the time for his off-key vocals and shitty plink plank fuckguitar that sounds like a creaky old house but I like it

Same. I think it's cohesive, but has a shitload of variety, has enough pop moments, but has freely flowing song structures, technical proficiency, genuine emotion, lyrical depth. Honestly it's just solid.
