thank you friend, downloading now
>>61605669
It encourages unwarranted self-importance, all the top rated releases are shit, every page takes forever to load and the entire userbase is just total cancer. We'd all be better off without it, instead just using discogs for music cataloging. We don't need no ratings or reviews either, anyone can instantly download or check out on Youtube what they want to listen to.
>>61605783
>It encourages unwarranted self-importance
What is unwarranted self-importance?
>all the top rated releases are shit
The subgenre charts are generally good.
hello
https://rateyourmusic.com/~6130
>>61605809
this. custom charts (esp esoteric charts!) are fucking goldmines.
>>61605809
>What is unwarranted self-importance?
People thinking their opinions are worth reading; ie anyone who writes reviews, most of which tell little about the music or try so hard to be funny, it's honestly pathetic.
>The subgenre charts are generally good.
Link me to one that isn't overly super-niche and isn't full of the most entry-level examples of the subgenre.
>>61605643
>>61605783
>>61605896
dude why are you posting in this thread and shitting it up if you hate rym? arent there better things to do with your time?
>>61605918
Why are you getting so mad when someone says something you don't like about your hugbox?
>>61605896
>People thinking their opinions are worth reading
Sometimes people do have opinions worth reading due to their knowledge regarding the music.
>Link me to one that isn't overly super-niche and isn't full of the most entry-level examples of the subgenre.
So wait, if it's a well known release it can't be the best? That's a rather immature view.
Obviously OKC is not the best Rock release, but saying Karajan's Beethoven set or Kind of Blue aren't pillars of their genre is an immature thing to say.
>>61605944
dude im not mad, im just confused. does rym really anger you so much that you have to make random posts attacking it?
>>61605944

>>61605783
Discogs is pretty bad for looking up music. Might be a bit harder to find stuff on RYM, because of how strict they are with source, but at least it's better organized.
The reviews I've seen have been painful to read and fit your description pretty well. I just ignore them.
I'm pretty new to the site, but I'm enjoying rating stuff and keeping track of what I like.
Here's my profile by the way
https://rateyourmusic.com/~toshimaru
>>61605954
>Sometimes people do have opinions worth reading due to their knowledge regarding the music.
And you'll find those people on a professional review site, not on RYM.
>So wait, if it's a well known release it can't be the best? That's a rather immature view.
Look at it this way, if the top rated releases are always easily accessible and entry level albums, then doesn't that mean that people without much experience in a genre are doing the rating? If so, why would I take those charts seriously?
>Obviously OKC is not the best Rock release
There you go, and I'm sure the top rated techno or black metal or whatever you listen to isn't truly the best example of the genre.
>but saying Karajan's Beethoven set or Kind of Blue aren't pillars of their genre is an immature thing to say.
I only listen to popular music so I can't comment on that.
>>61605971
How are any of my posts random? I'm talking about RYM in an RYM thread.
>>61606020
pu'erh desu
HE DID IT AGAIN BOYS
It's going to be interesting decades later when we view the catalogues of people like Avishai Cohen, Vijay Iyer, and Tim Berne with the reverence of masters past.
>>61606098
>And you'll find those people on a professional review site, not on RYM.
Not everyone wants to review things for a living. In fact that'd be a dull existence.
>I only listen to popular music so I can't comment on that.
So what you're saying is you have a very immature appreciation of music?
>>61605546
2 stars for Rio? That's a great album man...
>>61606098
>How are any of my posts random? I'm talking about RYM in an RYM thread.
this is supposed to be a discussion thread by users of the site, not just nonusers attacking it
>>61606020
Depends. I switch around a lot, but it's been a lot of dark, milky oolong recently.
>>61606169
>by users of the site
that's a kind of a stupid rule, especially since nobody's mentioned it until now
>>61606208
can't it be assumed that most of the people in this thread are rym users?
>>61606092
I disagree, Discogs is a lot more thorough with releases and compilations and what artists performed or appeared where. At least from what I've seen. RYM on the other hand has tons of missing releases, badly tagged releases or artists that have random tags added to differentiate them from similarly named artists, it's just a total shitshow in general.
>>61606133
>Not everyone wants to review things for a living. In fact that'd be a dull existence.
They can review all they want but their reviews are always going to be worthless.
>So what you're saying is you have a very immature appreciation of music?
Not listening to Jazz/Classical =/= being immature.

As a matter of fact it does = being immature.
You can't claim to care about music and then only listen to the most commercial and vapid form of it.

>>61606304

If you're a music hobbyist, just admit it.
>>61606312
why not
>>61606304
you're talking to boldfuck, so expect the obvious art/folk/pop music argument to be thrown your way now

>>61606375
You're a person who uses music for social or personal capital but not as a serious investment of time.

Personal information on 4chan/RYM is literally retarded.
>>61606393
>You're a person who uses music for social or personal capital but not as a serious investment of time.
What does this have to do with my criticism of RYM?
>>61606421
That I don't think you're really the person who can tell whether or not a person earnestly cares about music.
>>61606408
nice job ignoring the "not even in your lacking displays of "knowledge" on the subject" part
When people are learned, it shows even without them having to provide anything as confidential as personal information. In your case, it doesn't show. You do the math.

>>61606545

>>61606446
Well what you think doesn't really matter. If you truly have a degree in music, then even that doesn't automatically give you authority on all genres and styles of music. Even you said OKC isn't the best rock release so going back to the whole RYM charts thing, wouldn't that mean you agree with me?
great thread everybody
>>61606568
