>>61603112 i'll try to make it a regular thing, i'm still getting up to speed on current punk. so many many anons are sharing their knowledge on bands and i'm really grateful. if anyone would like to help run the threads with me and crust pants chan it would be much obliged. hopefully, i'm about to start working on writing music reviews for performer magazine. I don't know how much time that's going to take away. anyone one that's willing to help work on these threads for maintenance and make them better, is welcome. .
>>61603206 what happened to /emo/-/emoe/? havent seen it in a while. and the medium 'street punk true retarded' hates emo, but if you have luck, there wont be here. btw, ehat is some essential emocore?
>>61603288 listen to embrace, it has ian mackaye from minor threat. also rites of spring, but you might already know them. if you just search "emo:" on wikipedia they list most of the DC emocore bands.
pre-charlie is a little too cacophonous for my taste, but everything after is pure gold. bambi's dilemma sounds like bubblegum in comparison to the rest of their catalog. fetch is probably their best album, but I miss the albini sound.
>>61603410 listened to Fetch for the first time this morning, dint like the vocals too much, but the sound in heneral was pretty dope, wich album should i listen next? something more hardcore or fast would be cool
>>61603288 I haven't really kept up with /emo/ cause most of the time it was just people arguing about anime. So many anime posters flooded the general that the anti-weebs tried to start a non-weeb version of /emo/. From what I can tell in the end the schism of posters meant neither group got nearly enough posters to sustain the conversation and they just kinda collapsed and disappeared. Kinda sad Anyways essential emo/emocore//screamo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bf7mukqw3hQ world's first emo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uRSm-XE1Mc More DC style (also with a member of Fugazi oddly enough) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQ85qWqri9A more DC style emo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_GvooTDL84 Go-to Early 90s emo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmXwl2gCHBA early kind of screamo, nice mix of harsh/clean vocals and soft and heavy guitars https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGvPcYSXJN0 More early screamo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziNJ_lZTrR4 Indie rock inspired emo, but still carrying punk roots https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrEr8sPw2J0 Chaotic hardcore screamo, one of my personal favs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qekOugmzBzA Post-rock inspired screamo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mr_DMGZ-JrY The famous one, not much punk here but essential nontheless https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8cdAsbSyRo more midwest emo, more punky than American Football https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUP-x4dZIgI Hallmark in the "emo revival" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7CyZGlI4yE a fan favorite among /emo/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbdtYyb2KEk one of my personal favs
Is anyone thinking about making an essentials chart? Just so any newcomers to these threads can find all the shit we already agree is great or significant without us posting the same things over and over?
>>61604307 Unfortantely, atlanta's "crust scene" as far as I know just consists of homeless dreaded people hanging out in little five points, telling you that the ramones were sellouts everytime you walk by in a ramones shirt
>>61604951 i think that's a good idea if someone would be happy to make one. i'm a little too preoccupied to make one. it should include classic 70's punk, 80's hardcore from D.C., NYC, LA, and UK. as well as some 80's english crust.
>>61604951 We definitely should, and probably have quite a lot just for different subgenres and whatnot, like how /metal/ has essentials charts for just about anything What would definitely belong on the chart? I'm thinking Black Flag, Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Minutemen, Husker Du, and X, but what else?
>>61605491 pixies - surfer rosa big black - songs about fucking the jesus lizard - goat melt banana - teeny shiny les savy fav - inches fugazi - 13 songs mission of burma - vs. devo - q: are we not men? a: we are devo! number girl - school girl distortional addict
some entry level classics from many geographical and chronological locations
>>61605491 Minor Threat, The Exploited, Discharge, The Damned, The Germs, The Sex Pistols, Cro-Mags, The Bad Brains, The Adolescents, The Weirdos, Agnostic Front, Sick of it all, The Clash's early stuff, The Weirdos, just to name a few. Crust can have Amebix, etc.
I posted this in sharethread, shoul go into the essentials too imo Verbal Abuse - Just an American Band >old school hardcore punk, crossover influences later https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRjxHu7qLHQ [Embed] https://mega.nz/#!WsFBhTTZ!MeBTnwPc77S4-pkgEUe8m_QSSKwNSA7i_yqHk-PGarU >>61605692 Descendents is a good example of the entry level punk, pretty adolescent, i like them a lot
Here's a prototype 4x4 of essentials I organized it where the leftmost albums are well known and accessible, and further right are less accessible but still great and acclaimed albums I also arranged it so the first row is just punk, the second is hardcore, the third is post-punk, and the fourth is post-hardcore, this way it's easier to find similar stuff And I know it's very incomplete and missing a lot of essential but it's still a prototype and I expect criticism and changes
>>61604568 Although not an album, Nervous Breakdown is my favourite simply because it gives me the most energy and I love the singer they had for that period Rollins lyrics may be better but I prefer his voice and energy
>>61608899 On that chart was a Melvins album. Some of their stuff is more grunge-ish, but they do have their punk influences. I recommend that to everyone, as I've seen some of their albums around /mu/ before but not too much.
>>61608476 Man, EDM is sorta in a metal phase with synthwave going steady (Gost, Carpenter Brut, SurgeryHead, etc); I'm surprised no one has tried utilizing punk elements in electronic music. Some people have pointed me to witch house with Crystal Castles and the like; I found Lost Sounds from over a decade ago as well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzZ1H5XTuTs
>>61602898 the best Swedish punk band imo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoUFV_UXmeY
Italy had the better hardcore bands in my opinion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPMLMP4d1LA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmG90u2zgd4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfaVfpdzpCk https://youtu.be/zOh25YKFdYo
>>61609844 fuck off you poser Metalcore was perfected in 85 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aX0MYkQswok there is no reason to listen to your shit bands I don't even know why I post in this thread if the people are commenting are 17 year old scene kids that still think the scene is alive lel fuck off kids you drive me insane leave me alone you stupid americans
>>61610021 >using the world poser unironically I'm not even American Also, who the fuck ever said anything about any scene being alive? Stop wasting your fucking breath and think before you post something borderline retarded as this I can smell your insecurity from here
>>61610691 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdsutTporAU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHm_Z52mm8M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evvJs1Kkffo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9UzPcTWkyw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj6atoz0cOA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eYHL3L_XwY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ny1T79jaocM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad5xboanyNk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UcgFZPsVpM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLRvRnUrZog https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fseEwEUUGvc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1bN_dVT1cs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYbSvDGQWbQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfecI8ulQLo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiKncnTfk9A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4feDfhg4CQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iURh8WzNcrM I probably missed some essentials but it's midnight and I have sleep now Great punk hits is an essential album for jap punk Or just go through the Selfish Records and AA Records catalog
>>61610798 because most people are assholes I don't know where you're from but every time I leave my house in shithole,Germany I want to kill everyone Then I go to to punk show on friday only to see that punks and "alternative" people are just as bad
>>61611052 i see i hate most people too. i have friends that like punk but they suck. they won't start bands with me, but then they go off and start other bands without me and don't even tell me about it. i wanna be in a band as a vocalist now. I am going off to kobe japan to study. I hope i make friends there, but most japanese people are really boring. they're polite on the outside but most of them are the same as everyone else on the inside.
>>61611194 lel I see. you fucking normie where are you from? I will study in korea btw. i have some friends there and most korean people are rather honest and blunt which i like bad thing is i will have to deal with kpop idiots and americans
>>61611408 i'm american however i'm not like most americans, i was weeb as a teen but i have moved on. my primary interest is of course, music. it's sad to see adult weebs who still haven't moved on. japanese people hate weebs. the japanese thread on /int/ is literally just weebs.
>>61611498 lel I'm in the japanese thread every day (although I'm not interested in Japan at all) I've been trolling those idiots for months There are some people there that seem okay (especially the brits). The worst people are actually the westerners that live in Japan (nothing against you lel)
>>61611632 they all have the biggest egos and they fight have actual drama and shit, i hate those mouth breathers so much. the actual japanese posters are retarded too and have no idea what they're talking about, and some normal japanese people that stumble across the general are scared off
>>61606224 Not this kind anon but I tried making my own prototype chart as well. I didn't try to organize left to right, but did follow your example of using the rows for subgenres. Obviously this is a little more indicative of my taste/what I'm familiar with so anyone is free to make suggestions or just make a whole new chart again. Maybe someone could add a row or two for post 2000 albums?
