>>61603112
i'll try to make it a regular thing, i'm still getting up to speed on current punk. so many many anons are sharing their knowledge on bands and i'm really grateful. if anyone would like to help run the threads with me and crust pants chan it would be much obliged. hopefully, i'm about to start working on writing music reviews for performer magazine. I don't know how much time that's going to take away. anyone one that's willing to help work on these threads for maintenance and make them better, is welcome. .

who melt banana here

pre-charlie is a little too cacophonous for my taste, but everything after is pure gold. bambi's dilemma sounds like bubblegum in comparison to the rest of their catalog. fetch is probably their best album, but I miss the albini sound.

yeah
>>
>>61603410
listened to Fetch for the first time this morning, dint like the vocals too much, but the sound in heneral was pretty dope, wich album should i listen next? something more hardcore or fast would be cool

>>
>>61603472
>>61603472
cell scape has a more electronic sound
bambi's dillema is by far the most melodic
teeny shiny is a good middle point
scratch or stitch is incredibly harsh and noisy

take your pick

I haven't listened to their live album, singles compilations, or their earliest albums

post favorite melt banana song titles itt:
like a white bat in a box dead matters go on
>>
>>61603288
I haven't really kept up with /emo/ cause most of the time it was just people arguing about anime. So many anime posters flooded the general that the anti-weebs tried to start a non-weeb version of /emo/. From what I can tell in the end the schism of posters meant neither group got nearly enough posters to sustain the conversation and they just kinda collapsed and disappeared. Kinda sad
Anyways essential emo/emocore//screamo:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bf7mukqw3hQ world's first emo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uRSm-XE1Mc More DC style (also with a member of Fugazi oddly enough)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQ85qWqri9A more DC style emo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_GvooTDL84 Go-to Early 90s emo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmXwl2gCHBA early kind of screamo, nice mix of harsh/clean vocals and soft and heavy guitars
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGvPcYSXJN0 More early screamo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziNJ_lZTrR4 Indie rock inspired emo, but still carrying punk roots
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrEr8sPw2J0 Chaotic hardcore screamo, one of my personal favs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qekOugmzBzA Post-rock inspired screamo

>>
>>61604568
My war is good one, damaged is my personal favorite
>>
Is anyone thinking about making an essentials chart? Just so any newcomers to these threads can find all the shit we already agree is great or significant without us posting the same things over and over?
>>
>>61604307
Unfortantely, atlanta's "crust scene" as far as I know just consists of homeless dreaded people hanging out in little five points, telling you that the ramones were sellouts everytime you walk by in a ramones shirt
>>
>>61604951
i think that's a good idea if someone would be happy to make one. i'm a little too preoccupied to make one. it should include classic 70's punk, 80's hardcore from D.C., NYC, LA, and UK. as well as some 80's english crust.
>>
>>61605112
that's bullshit, the ramones never sold out, they stuck to their roots and always did what they wanted to do
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlWRhLtQ6Hs

speaking of homeless people
>>
>>61605166
some classic d-beat would be good to
>>
>>61605256
yeah that would be good too

if someone can work on putting it together it would be much appreciated
>>
>>61604951
We definitely should, and probably have quite a lot just for different subgenres and whatnot, like how /metal/ has essentials charts for just about anything
What would definitely belong on the chart? I'm thinking Black Flag, Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Minutemen, Husker Du, and X, but what else?
>>
>>61605491
pixies - surfer rosa
big black - songs about fucking
the jesus lizard - goat
melt banana - teeny shiny
les savy fav - inches
fugazi - 13 songs
mission of burma - vs.
devo - q: are we not men? a: we are devo!
number girl - school girl distortional addict

some entry level classics from many geographical and chronological locations
>>
>>61605491
Minor Threat, The Exploited, Discharge, The Damned, The Germs, The Sex Pistols, Cro-Mags, The Bad Brains, The Adolescents, The Weirdos, Agnostic Front, Sick of it all, The Clash's early stuff, The Weirdos, just to name a few. Crust can have Amebix, etc.
>>
i also think the descendants are very important for east coast punk and milo goes to college is a classic and essential album, though some may argue.
>>
I think we should mention Agnostic Front for NYC HC too.
>>
i meant west coast punk whoops
>>

Here's a prototype 4x4 of essentials
I organized it where the leftmost albums are well known and accessible, and further right are less accessible but still great and acclaimed albums
I also arranged it so the first row is just punk, the second is hardcore, the third is post-punk, and the fourth is post-hardcore, this way it's easier to find similar stuff
And I know it's very incomplete and missing a lot of essential but it's still a prototype and I expect criticism and changes
>>
>>61606224
nice

where goat tho

there are arguably better fugazi albums, esp. repeater
>>
>>61606224
it's very good, thank you for your work and your contribution. should we add dead boys young loud and snotty to the list?
