>>61600793 Of course soundtrack albums are overrated. Most people who get them are people who loved the music/game/whatever and the music in it, so they know what they're getting.
That said, Akira Yamaoka really is good at what he does. The problem with that OST is that all the tracks are too damn short, they're meant to be played as loops. He should release a stand-alone ambient album sometime.
>>61599061 >jesus why is RYM so shit and why can't anyone fix it? Jesus why are electronic music fans so obnoxious and can't anyone fix them?
>>61600955 >>61600999 >>61600865 The problem is when soundtracks derivative of non-soundtrack music get higher scores than the music that inspired them, such as the case with the SoR and Silent Hill soundtracks. No one is shitting on vidya soundtracks, just stating the fact they're mad overrated.
>>61601238 >why are electronic music fans so obnoxious and can't anyone fix them? Yes, by educating the rocktard plebs so they would stop being so rockist and retarded. Alternatively, gassing all the rocktard plebs.
>>61601408 maybe it was created as one, but that doesn't mean that it's good for exploring music because the genre tags are as generic as they can get. what's your issue with calling it electronica though? do I need to start calling it fucking electronic plus music or some shit like that?
>>61601469 I found lots of cool music using charts (thank mr esoteric), and I only browsed through top 100. I still don't like using discogs because the genre tags rarely match what I'm looking for. also the genre descriptions on rym come in handy when I want to know the bare basics about something I'm going to listen to. >>61601510 >throws fits over calling a genre in a way different from his conception >calls other people retards because of that I think you might have a problem with projections, timmy.
>>61601323 Yeah, I like techno and house but /bleep/ers are about the worst people on /mu/. Little to no will to discuss or recommend anything, anything popular or even in album format is considered shit, nothing but anger and contempt for others.
It's true that RYM isn't nearly as good for these genres as it is for rock music, but still. I haven't heard Bare Nuckle II but the other albums in OP's picture are really good.
>>61601462 >what's your issue with calling it electronica though? "Electronica" has no good definition, it's just a very vague umbrella term. RYM doesn't even recognise the term. Better to use "electronic music" or be more precise.
>>61601593 ''electronic music'' is fucking huge compared to ''electronica''.
>Electronica is an umbrella term that encompasses a broad group of electronic-based styles such as techno, house, ambient, drum and bass, jungle, and industrial dance, among others. It has been used to describe the rise of electronic music styles intended not just for dancing but also concentrated listening.
>Electronic music is music that employs electronic musical instruments and electronic music technology in its production, an electronic musician being a musician who composes and/or performs such music. In general a distinction can be made between sound produced using electromechanical means and that produced using electronic technology.
>>61601778 Yeah, meme abuse gets annoying on /mu/.
>>61601828 It's not just dadrock — most genres nowadays are released on albums and EPs. And there are many great house, techno, breakbeat albums that work very well. You're missing out if you stick to that visible part of the iceberg, but I think it's a shame that there is not just a divide but animosity between the two ways of listening to that music, purists who only like club music as it's listened to in clubs and people who only take music seriously when it's on album format. >>61601821>>61601781 Shit, that's true and it's just sad.
It's not even just electronic music either — listening to jazz, classical or even a lot of folk music on album format only can be ridiculous. Albums are a perfectly good way of listening to music but it's not the only one and shouldn't be considered as such — I don't know why some people have problems with that.
>>61602267 > I think part the problem is the whole ''only plebs don't listen to whole albums'' meme here > Also, you missed R&B/soul/funk for singles too. Yes, good points.
> all essential charts and threads are about albums, constantly Someone tried to make a chart for labels once. It's not perfect, like I don't know if putting the logo for the Planete TV Channel instead of the Planet E label one was a joke or not, or what's up with the "multi genre" category (which seems completely off-topic), but it was a decent start. Only one I saw though.
I'll be honest, I don't even know if it's possible to make "essential" charts for these genres, there's so much stuff to check out all the time. Which is a good thing, but I suppose it can be discouraging for people who want to "go through the classics" like they do with rock etc.
