if you're looking for another album that sounds like pic related you won't find anything.
sorry
>>
>>61569606
Listen to Fiery Furnaces/Matthew Friedberger's stuff but sorry it's not like STGSTV

This is the single saddest thing in my life. Spirit is my favorite album of all time. I have listened to hundreds of times and it pains my soul that I have never heard anything else that sounds like it.

I highly recommend Deerhoof - The Man, The King, The Girl

I've always liked deerhoof but only found out the other day how similar their first album is to STGSTV

it's not exactly the same but you'll likely still enjoy it
>>

I feel like you would really enjoy this from the artists you mentioned. It took a few listens for me to appreciate, but the sampling and crazy dissonance surrounding the sugary pop core of a lot of these songs is really captivating.

one minute in
this is lame

I'm curious, what do you enjoy so much about it? I enjoy AnCo, I'm not blown away by them, and Strawberry Jam happens to be my favorite. What is it that makes this album so special? I've tried going through it multiple times, and most of the sounds are so harsh that it's impossible for me to enjoy. Further, it comes across as 18-year-olds fucking around and not this emotional masterpiece that people seem to be raving about. Am I missing something?

>>
>>61570294
is starting to pick up
>>
>>61570322
half the people who praise it probably wouldnt see it as this emotional masterpiece if they never saw it being glorified on here. instead, they would see it as a good but amateur piece of experimental music that marked the beginning of animal collective's path to much greater things.

if you want a better "muh childhood" experience then listen to sung tongs

Blueberry Boat, Bitter Tea, Gallowsbird's Bark, EP are great starts for FF

And for Matthew Fredberger, try Winter Women and Holy Ghost Language School

Yeah I can understand it not clicking. I don't know exactly why I love it so dearly but it seriously connected with me for some reason.

Maybe try these guys. This album was another grower, it's very quiet and almost ambient at times but the melodies and textures are stunning. Very feelsy too, if you like that sort of thing

I hate when people say Untitled is trash. It's not my favorite but it's up there

I'm big into animal collective and it took me probably 4 listens over 4 or 5 years to finally get it. It helps to have a background in noise music. It's the perfect example of using elements of noise to influence a pop album. Like the other dude said listen to it stoned if your into that. And if not just keep trying. One day it will click
>>
>>61570159
early of montreal maybe? someone already rec'd the unicorns, seconding that. also thinking fellers union local though they aren't really as poppy

>people only like things because /mu/ tells them to
Spirit's one of my favorites only because I was naïve and thought going through their discography chronologically was a good way to get into them after SJ came out and I liked it
I didn't start posting on /mu/ until 2010 and that was still far before Spirit started getting posted on here
Believe it or not, people actually like some things for reasons other than strangers on an online image board
