illmatic is really highly rated by so many people but it deserves all the praise d e s u, it's an amazing album
Illmatic was and still is boring as fuck. Beats and lyrics alike.
It hasn't been long enough to call it a best of but it was quite impressive. I can see it being called AOTY but of all time there's just so many better albums. It was better than Illmatic thought but so are a lot of other albums Illmatic is generic over praised mafia-rap.
This is still my favourite album. Not a bad track on it.
illmatic aged kind of poorly imo but the impact it had at its release was staggering, which is something a lot of people dont factor in to the amount of praise it gets. still a fantastic album
This is way better than anything Nas has ever done.
I finally checked this out a couple days ago. Followed the instructions and was surprised at how good it was. It sounds like nothing else Ive ever heard in hip hop, and that's why it gets a lot of negative, as well as positive reactions. Most people want rap that sounds good but sounds like what theyre used to hearing. Angry Kid just sounds like it has no respect for anything that came before it, and it's uniqueness turns a lot of people off. I can appreciate anything this different from the status quo and I think that 10 years from now it has the potential to be looked back on as a classic. Also Illmatic was ok but very overrated, even for an old album. It just isnt that great.
>inb4 semi-unpopular opinion
how is it better if nas built on everything rakim did? illmatic is so exalted because it flipped the game upside down. sure it wouldn't be possible without rakim but it is still better in every way.
both of these albums are based around a certain aesthetic that not resonate with you. they both have a unique portrayal of urban life and all of them are from queens too. anyways, they style might just not be your thing and thats fine. that being said, i have listened to a huge amount of hip hop and illmatic and the infamous are honestly among the best. they best have very well crafted beats and have very skilled rappers on them. the style is authentic and the lyrics are very vivid. I get lost in these two albums more than most albums in general, even outside of hip hop
>Any of them better lyrically than Ice Cube in his prime
>Better beats than Dre and Yella
>Charisma of Eazy E
I admit after the first album they dropped it, but Straight outta compton is the shit.
>illmatic aged kind of poorly imo
It Ain't Hard To Tell could have come out yesterday and it would still sound like one of the greatest hip-hop songs ever.
I bet you think Future is some kind of genius.
Found the whites lol
I feed you wonton noodol and fortune cookie
they arent going for hardcore, horrorcore, or anything like that. its a group of kids coming out of queens giving you a glimpse into the life they know. The two albums are very dynamic in terms of what they are expressing. Sure the overarching theme is the street life, but they go into it on a lot of levels. both albums have a lot of subtly and i think that their depictions are incredibly vivid and effective. what are two hip hop albums that you would say top them?
Is there any early 90's production that hasn't aged like shit other than Dre G-Funk and the Bomb Squad?
Tablo will go down as history's most under appreciated lyricist. Even in his native South Korea, he is underrated
>Followed the instructions and was surprised at how good it was. It sounds like nothing else Ive ever heard in hip hop, and that's why it gets a lot of negative, as well as positive reactions.
this is why your album sucks jonathan, you think your audience is too stupid to have heard fantastic damage or edan. your attempts to viral market this shit are just as condescending and transparent as your eighth note flow
>but it seems like the lyrics are shallow
they're not tryna be super duper deep it's light hearted hip hop and it fucking works
>Angry Kid just sounds like it has no respect for anything that came before it, and it's uniqueness turns a lot of people off.
i have read this exact sentence before hmm
he was floating in 87', he also hasn't used a curse word on record and that's 29 years
pic related is best of 90s
