I have just finished listening to it and i think it's pretty good, even better than i was expecting. What you think about it? Do you think it was overhyped or just really good?
>>
>>61554241
I need a FLAC copy before I can share my opinion.
>>
I just listened and it's everything I wanted and more. When I first heard Sue on "Nothing Has Changed" I thought it would be cool if Bowie gave us an album like that and he did, but with that cool twist on Sue man my mind is blown.

That last tune has a nice familiar hint of his 80s sound, of which I'm a big fan. A really good record, one of his best for sure.
>>
>>61554369
the last song really sounds like it was ripped straight from Heathen

Its that old-bowie-but-not-really-Low-but-not-really-Earthling sound
>>
Girl Loves Me is pretty wild. That's going to take some days of blasting to really get a handle on.

Might as well post this here, I'm 100% serius, not to shitpost or blog or anything, but I need help.
I've knew a few of his songs, and really fucking liked them, like Space Oddity, Man who sold the world,Starman etc. basically entry level shit I guess.
Then I started listening to his discography, and granted, I'm only up to Station to Station, but like most of his albums just feel like generic 60's/70's music, not bad, but nothing special, even though it might've been revolutionary when it came out.But they also have the occasional really fucking good, genius songs. The ones that I most like are diamond dogs and ziggy stardust. I like Blackstar and Lazarus though, haven't listened to anything from the new album though.
How big of a pleb am I ? How do I into Bowiecore? There are a shitton of albums.
Sorry for being a disgusting pleb.
>>
>>61565742

I love those albums, but I think this is quite distinct.
>>
>>61565793

Spend more time listening. That kind of discography is just overwhelming and it takes possibly years to take it all in.
>>
>>61565793
Dude stop apologizing. Pleb is a meme. Just go chronologically and if you find something you like good for you and if you don't that's fine!
>>
>>61565793

Heroes is now my all time favorite album, but I admit it was really difficult for me to get in to at first.

I feel this weird guilt that Blackstar has knocked Heathen out of my top 10. Poor Heathen is so good though!
>>
It's not worth more than 2 listens, but it's not bad music, it's just insanely derivative and out-dated sounding, even the IDM parts. 5/10. Blackstar is the best track by a massive margin, as expected.

>>
>>61565936

As you can tell I'm not a massive fan of post Scary Monsters material, up until his most recent stuff
>>
The Sue redo reminds me of the soundtrack from the "A Scanner Darkly" movie, which is cool. Bowie really hit for me some of the combos I've been into for the past few years are Bad Plus and Secret Society, non-trad jazz.

Girl Loves Me is something else, and I love those Clockwork Orange lyrics which is an interesting throwback to a big influence in early Bowie and the image which really launched him. These kind of things are beyond any plebkid like upthread who only listened to it twice before making his tiny contrarian mind up about this masterpiece. I honestly feel bad for those kind of kids.

Yeah definitely bumping it to a 8/10. Pretty good album especially if you consider is coming from a dude that should be retired already.

It's not an EP. Bowie came from a time when albums were around the 45 minute mark. This is what this is. Around 45 minutes is the perfect album length.

>>61573112
>came from a time when albums were around the 45 minute mark
are you implying most albums aren't that long nowadays?

Blackstar>Dollar Days>Girls Love Me>Lazarus>I Can't Give Everything Away>Sue>'Tis a Pity

9/10 for me after a bunch of listens since it leaked Bowie's done it again

Sue (or a Season of Crime) was even more depressing here than it was in the original version:

A lot of fine detail in the production, in the manner of the Scary Monsters album which has minute touches all the way through. I look forward to many years of surprises.
>>
>>61554637
I saw a thread a few days ago about songs that end as they introduce something new to the melody and how much it sucks

That's how I feel about the ending to Girl Loves Me, song is great but why the fuck couldn't it be one minute longer and keep that synth going.
>>
>>61576062
>why the fuck couldn't it be one minute longe

That's probably what makes it so moreish. It's like Ashes to Ashes when that finishes you're like "what, no please don't stop ;_;".
>>
I bet Bowie is chuckling gently to himself as he fucks his supermodel wife on his 69th birthday, imagining all the plebs putting this album on and getting their tiny minds blown.

This album is Bowie telling us what he's digging; that the music we like he likes too. And he's force-feeding it to the rest like he's done so many times in the past.

Darren Lock has his live-listen vid up.

There's no Bowie music in the vid, he gives his opinion on it as he listens through it with headphones etc.

he's a comfy music reviewer that mainly focuses on prog etc

>>61580093
I agree that they're eerie but I know some people who would find them disturbing. They're very alien and create a strong sense of unease. The unnatural jerking and shaking are pretty freaky, then there are the living scarecrows. Blackstar channels these occult and ritualistic vibes that I can understand some people find unsettling. Lazarus is sort of a visualized portrayal of mental insanity, and BlindfoldBowie being controlled by the girl/muse under his bed strikes a chord at some themes that I see some finding disturbing. I think they're amazing. Not quite as good as the video for "The Stars (Are Out Tonight)" but still great.

It's his best album since Scary Monsters.

I've been a Bowie fan for about 25 years now, and here is how I'd rate his albums. And yes, I really do like his 80s albums, no joke...

Space Oddity - 6
The Man Who Sold The World - 10
Hunky Dory - 9
Ziggy Stardust - 9
Alladin Sane - 10
Pin Ups - 7
Diamond Dogs - 6
Young Americans - 8
Station to Station - 10
Low - 10
"Heroes" - 10
Lodger - 8
Scary Monsters - 10
Let's Dance - 7
Tonight - 5
Never Let Me Down - 6
Black Tie White Noise - 7
Outside - 7
Earthling - 7
Hours - 6
Heathen - 7
Reality - 6

Girl Loves Me and Can't Give Everything Away were great songs but for the most part it felt like he was trying to shove as much "weird" shit into each song as possible when really it's just pop music
