Most of what's in my house right now.
Been playing about 14 years now. Currently a professional musician.
Also Jaco was amazing, eat shit.
Hey /gg/. I bought this pickup about 2 months ago. I intend to install it in the neck posistion of my red Squier Strat. I do not know how to solder, so here comes the real question. Do I learn how to, or do I bring the guitar to a shop? What is more cost effective? What is more useful IYO? Thanks!
Forgot to mention, it's a Seymour Hot Rail. I also may want to install it in my Buddy Guy Sig Strat, but that guitar already has Gold Lace pickups. Do I do it or stick with the Squier installation?
Might have to sacrifice the V to the guitar gods
Just got pic related
it's a 1950s silvertone h51 with a gibson made p13 pickup, got it for 30 bucks at a thrift shop.
Recorded an album with it on new-years, it's got this crazy out-of this world mac-demarco-y chorusy sound. Verging on beatles tone without even using any or many pedals
heres the album I recorded with it
be warned my recording quality is shit, but it'll give you a feel for how the guitar sounds.
Hey, don't get me wrong, there are many good Norlins. But the quality took a dive in statistical terms. That means you're more likely to run into a lemon or a poorly finished guitar. But if you try before you buy, it shouldn't be an issue.
He was a hack, his stuff is wanky crap that only other bassists care about.
>Might have to sacrifice the V to the guitar gods
Sell a kidney instead, you have 2.
I want a fuzz pedal that would work well on both guitar and bass. I mean it doesn't HAVE to be both but that would be preferred for my wallet's sake. I have an ODB-3 now and overall I'm not a big fan of the sound. I've looked at the BOSS FZ-2, the Behringer copy of that, and the various big muffs.
Though desu at the point I am in my guitar and bass playing I shouldn't even bother with pedals but I really want some to play with.
Or I could just get an audio interface and a virtual amp and have those effects.
or neither because I have no money
lol i call bullshit.
man, I've found both that and a 1972 (pic related) lawsuit SG at thrift. I paid like 60 bucks for the SG but it was hella worth it. If you can find a st. vincent depaul or salvation army store in a shittier area of your town, chances are people will have guitars there.
yeah, I do. The band is actually called Frank Sriracha because I'm a punny piece of shit, ringo star wars is just what I called my "drop /mu/ shit here" bandcamp
pull a hendrix, my dude
I can give you my rig info if you're interested, and some songwriting tips.
>a st. vincent depaul or salvation army
Neat I know where both of these are.
Why is the low profile floyd variant so uncommon?
I just don't play it enough. I also like being able to sit with a guitar. I know you can sit with a V, so don't tell me to git gud. I've always wanted an LP too
No. Don't do it to yourself, mate. Gibsons are shit guitars.
Alright, well mac demarco's biggest thing that gives him a distinct sound with his recording is that he uses a reel-to-reel. I don't have one of these, just my shitty computer, so you can get a similar effect by using a tube effect and some careful EQ-work on the low end. It'll be really hard to get his recording warmth, though, so focus your efforts instead on guitar gear. Mac uses a reverb tank and a vintage fender tube amp, as well as a chorus effect in most of his songs. You likely don't have the cash for this, so my reccomendation would be to find yourself a solid low-wattage tube amp on the cheap (mine is a fender silverface from the 70s, dads on kijiji or craigslist almost always underprice them), and get a multi-effects pedal. Make sure you get yourself lots of room-y reverb, and chorus, but not enough that you're going into cheesey-80s or 90s buttrock nirvana territories, just enough to make it stand out.
For song writing, look up major 7th chords and nontraditional jazz chords. Mac makes his guitar playing look easy, but it's anything but, he's actually a hell of a good guitar player, he just acts goofy on stage. Study ringo starr's solo carreer and mystery tour-era beatles for examples of mac-y chord progressions, also listen to lots of grateful dead and steely dan lead guitar work to see where he gets his distinct style from. use a 12-string for your leads if you can, or just an octave up effect (that's what I do for my leads on my album). good luck, brobro. I'm poor as fuck too, so my rig for recording is pretty much shit, as is all my guitar equipment. really I just got lucky enough to find guitars that worked on the cheap that weren't total shit.
yeah man, do it up.
because muh hair metal divebombs idk
don't sell the V, use it live, sell that POS studio SG. don't buy an LP, you have enough gibsons, get yourself a strat for dat funk, or a telecaster if you want a tough piece of shit that'll never die.
How to achieve the motivation to play? I just can't anymore. Feels like I've wasted 15 years of my life.
What's the technique that he's using for the solo around 2:50? Is it tapping?
I use bread-ties NGL. that or the little red rubber things from grolsch bottles.
Any les paul that isn't vintage is objectively plebian. Go vintage, get a patrician guitar.
I'm not really a metal guitarist, DESU. I wouldn't be the one to ask. Any theory but metal i can help a brother out on. It certainly isn't pentatonic, though. Maybe check out dorian or lydian modes for a similar cacophonic sound.
this tbqh famalia. I was plateu'd for a good year till I started a band, now I'm putting out way more creatively than ever before. Shit, i wrote this album (https://ringostarwars.bandcamp.com/) in literally a single night.
If you've got the 200 grand, sure, but honestly les pauls in general are overhyped. I've owned three, all three dissapointed me. Go for something unknown. Be original. be an outlier. Get yourself some weird old itallian or japanese guitar nobodies ever heard of. Make your own guitar. Get something old and gritty and amazing. ANybody can go out and buy a brand new les paul and it'll be okay, but a guitar you have to tinker with, a gutiar you have to set up and figure out and solder and a guitar that'll hurt you until you break it in, that's infinitely more rewarding, believe me.
Also gibson quality control is literally non-existant. Pointy frets, mishappen necks, fucked up tross rods, everything mang.
Thanks man! I already have lots o pedals so I'm set on that but decent tube amps and reel to reels are always so fucking expensive.
For EQ should I turn the higher frequencies up and the lower ones down?
Mac demarco has a very velvetty sound, you want your pedals to jangle, but your EQ to be surprisingly more in the lower range.
If you are actually buying a 1959 Gibson Les Paul, and have the money for it, then please buy my album on bandcamp (https://ringostarwars.bandcamp.com/), I'm poor as fuck and already starving myself this week to make rent.
But if you're not the same guy, and jsut a troll, to the other dude I'd reccomend these guitars; they'll be funner, and raise WAY more questions/attract way more attention than any gibson other than a legit 1959 burst les paul
those are all VERY cool guitars.
>poorshit begging people to buy his shit album while telling wealthy people that expensive guitars are a waste of money so they should buy cheap shit that will fall apart in a month
you can't make this shit up
>fall apart in a month
right because they've lasted perfectly since the 60s, so they'll definitely fall apart in a month if you're not an asshat
Buttblasted gibson shill detected. you literally couldn't be trying less.
>wrote that album in a single night
i couldn't tell
man, the samefag is real. The reply count of "people in thread" hasn't gone up once since you started your weird little campaign. You can stop trying so hard, man. It's okay to be autistic.
the bandcamp is mostly just one I throw random experimental shit into, it's not my actual bandcamp. Also the band name attached to the bandcamp is actually Frank Sriracha,
When he does shred its never tasteful, he just spazzes out at top speed.
Plus most of the music he contributes to is corny shit , and mostly consumed by exclusively by NAMM show faggots, which is why its silly you level that "only other bassists" critique at Jaco. Weather Report where a foremost fusion band, wheras Mr.Big where a70s hard rock band 10 years after the fact, who's only distgiushing quality was the wank ability of their guitarist and bassist.
yeah it was all me, not like i was trying to hide it. doesn't change the fact that you have no idea what you're talking about, are poor, and can barely play your guitar even though you're act like some god
>get called out for being a fraud
Yes, I am poor, I'm a university student it's hard not to be poor
I never once claimed to be a guitar God, I just know a lot about gear.
"I have no idea what I'm talking about", yeah, that's bullshit. I may like different guitars than you but how does that mean i don't know what I'm talking about? Gibsons quality control lately has been absolutely ass, and they make overhyped overpriced guitars. Literally (L I T E R A L L Y) none of that is wrong. But, again, gibson shill detected.
Can you read, idiot?
My original comment wasnt saying that his soloing was tasteful, it was saying that his playing in bands he works with and has worked with (Mr big, winery dogs, dlr, etc) is simple and tasteful. When he plays in his bands, his goal isnt to show off his technical skills, its to serve the song. And he does a pretty good job of it. I dare you to name one Billy Sheehan bassline in one of his bands that is overplayed shreddy crap. You're probably 16 or something, so you wouldn't know that Mr. Big was actually pretty popular among non musicians. They're still huge in Japan
My drummer for my band stuff really likes Shure SM57s, but those are pricey so we use a shure for the bass drum and a Pyle Pro shure knockoff for the rest of the set. When I'm doing solo recordings I just use an electronic drum set plugged into my DAW.
Ordered one of these yesterday. My wallet hurts, but it's gonna be so worth it.
He mics the bass drum, the snare + toms, the hi-hats and the overheads all seperately. You can chose to use different mics for the snare and toms, but we're balling on a budget, so he prefers to just use the same mic for snare and toms.
Senpai I play black metal
Currently have the following pedals:
There's room on my board for 2 more. What else should I get? I'm thinking chorus, but I don't know what would be good for filling the last spot
>mfw they're all "naturally hardcore relic'd" guitars instead of the shiny ones in his pic
>Hope you're not the same kid that was recommending billy sheenan to people
Billy knows how to keep it musical. Does this sound wanky to you?
It's a great bassline without doing pointless stuff in a sad attempt to show off.
>protip: overcomplicating the bassline for the sake of complexity is musical shitposting, and shitposting is for newfags
I remember when I was 15 and looked down at bassists that play root notes too. Sometimes you need to stick to the KISS principle.
He makes some really nice shreds, and he doesn't try to play guitar on bass. He's probably the best bass shredder around. And his shreds are never out of place, he's not some Derek Smalls type of bassist.
They removed the fret nibs in 2014 though and they had the ugly inlays too.
>Gibsons are shit guitars.
Hi Kurt :^)
Have you tried classical position? I played my buddy's V sometimes and it was God tier for playing sitting.
>tfw I'm not a guitar God so I won't get your sacrifice
>tfw no gorgeous V
Trying to get a job to save for a high end V
I'd be quite happy to have one of these on my guitar. I wouldn't have to have a separate guitar for slide, and wouldn't have to commit to a string gauge (though I don't think it's likely to need but work from a string change, it's possible). Does anyone have any experience with these? The Gibson zero frets are pretty cool but they'd require pretty damn skilled maintenance when the time comes.
Senpai how to be a hack? I like dream theater metal but I don't have either the time or money to go to music school to actually become a musician and "do it for real," so what is a good shortcut that will enable me to sound good without actually having to know what the fuck I'm playing?
>My original comment wasnt saying that his soloing was tasteful, it was saying that his playing in bands he works with and has worked with (Mr big, winery dogs, dlr, etc) is simple and tasteful.
Yeah that wasn't hard to understand. But my point is its not hard to play simply and "tastefully" on the bass, most players achieve that, and giving credit to Sheenan for doing a pretty simple job, whilst talking shit about the most innovative electric bass player is stupid. What would make sheehan more impressive was if he could utilize his technical prowess without resorting to wank, which he cannot. His solo's are always the same (3 finger pluck, tap, harmonic, repeat). If its his so called tasteful playing and not his technical ability that so impresses you, then you could talk about a gillizllion other bassists that lack that ability but play "tasteful" lines, just like he does. Nobody would know who BIlly Sheenan was if he couldn't sherd like he does he just be another faceless studio guy and you wouldn't think to bring up his name.
I know all about Mr Big (did i not descirbe them perfectly?), and they where only big because they made completely generic hard rock, with occasional extended wank solos, which they eat up in Japan. Marty Friedman gets on daytime TV over there for fucks sake.
I rarely call people posers. I believe any level of skill can enrich one's life, but you're a poser. You know what raises questions and attracts people? Playing well.
Bruhs, pick your guitars based on how easy it plays and how stable it is, THEN consider aesthetics.
So on a regular American Strat, is it possible to set the bridge at the angle whereby its completely flush with the body, making it impossible to pull up but possible to pull down?
Would doing so make it easier to downtune?
Why? I only like images & words, and the one about the regression. What's a good band in this style? I also like Govan with his excentricities but sometimes he's too much. I like the fusion funk/metal too.
shit guitar gibson fuckboy should have got this $200 1960s cuban guitar instead made out of real tobacco wood instead it would sound just as good if you replaced the bridge the pickups the neck the frets the head stock the wood the strings the tuners the knobs the body the pickup selector the fret wire and the stain / finish desu senpai
I got a Fender HSS as a gift and I'm a total beginner lol. So what do I learn first? All chords and shit?
first learn to fret notes and posture. Next learn power chords and posture. Next learn a song. Next learn open chords and posture. Next learn barre chords and posture. from then on it's a pretty even mix of technique, theory, more chords, and posture.
actually quite a nice guitar
So guys, I was thinking, would it be a good idea to put a tele bridge pickup into a stratocaster, more specifically a seymour duncan vintage 54 tele bridge pickup into a squier standard strat. I'm a big fan of strats but love the tele bridge toans.
Virtuosity is worthless without musicality. Literally the only appealing thing about that piece is that the harmonics make it sound somewhat like a fender rhodes. Other than that, it's a boring and grooveless song.
>When he plays in his bands, his goal isnt to show off his technical skills, its to serve the song.
this is what many people fail to realize
>I dare you to name one Billy Sheehan bassline in one of his bands that is overplayed shreddy crap.
He most likely can't. I love Sheehan's work with Vai and Roth.
Sheehan's solos aren't just wank though.
Like the other anon said it's George Benson style. As mentioned in this kick-ass article, written by Tuck Andress in 1999:
It's not that people can't do it. It's just that it can take some time to master. (It took me 6 months to change grip and incorporate elbow motion mechanic.)
Oh, forgot to say that if I had to pick an important Jaco contribution, it would be the popularization of the fretless bass. He wasn't really an innovator in that because he copied it from other guys but he could be called a pioneer.
>and all he did was wank. How the hell is that good?
No he didn't. I think the problem here is you just don't like his music, or you don't like jazz, and so when Jaco does speedy 16th notes, its "wank", but if Sheenan does it, its fine. And Sheenan has exactly the same soloing style no matter who he's on stage with, because thats all he's known for. Those rapid bursts of notes Jaco does are very much an idiom in Jazz, and can therefore be considered tasteful in the context of he fusion bands he was in. Besides that, there are plently of tracks Jaco plays on where he is very much in the background, not to mention his own Word Of Mouth album features many tracks totally devoid of any bass playing that is remotely techinally advanced. Your "all he did was wank" claim is horseshit. But you're probably 16 and only know about how popular Mr Big are in Japan.
So all I got to do is to make the bridge parallel to the body, and it won't have room to pull up right, effectively blocking it?
Will this work with other vintage trems, maybe a PRS?
Something isnt a rapid burst if it lasts the whole song
Speed of playing doesn't define wankery. It's only wankery if it sounds like shit. They are almost random notes thrown together.
But it is, if you're a shit composer but you're a virtuoso you should stick to doing covers.
Greetings! Who's thinking about getting one? Made from bubinga, "a great tonewood for clarity, volume, balance, and sparkling high end."
>he likes djent
>he thinks that difficult to play music is synonymous with good music
What the fuck
There is more wank in the first minute than in Jacos entire career. Its exteremly boring unless you're impressed by the technique.
Every Sheenan solo is a variation on the same template, the tapping, the dive bomb, the rapid fire 3 finger gallop, harmonics thrown in everywhere, all as fast as he can go. Its funny though, because its highly likely that Sheenan got that right hand artifical harmonic technique from Jaco.
You probably know some shitty boring minor scale tapping licks and so you think you're hot shit even though you've never written a full, decent song in your whole life
Go practice, kid
>Speed of playing doesn't define wankery. It's only wankery if it sounds like shit. They are almost random notes thrown together.
You're condeming him to wankery because he plays Jazz? Thats what this is about? If he played pentatonic licks all the time it would no longer be wank?
You might have the same ears as my 12 year old sister.
>Every Sheenan solo is a variation on the same template, the tapping, the dive bomb, the rapid fire 3 finger gallop, harmonics thrown in everywhere
Stop focusing on the technique and listen to the notes. The same technique can be used to make shitty stuff or good stuff. Also he doesn't play that many harmonics.
I'm getting at something along the lines of thinking that it's silly to play someone else's signature guitar, including a les paul. If you're playing something 'custom,' make it (or have it made) to your own specifications. If you're playing something mass-produced, a signature on the headstock looks ridiculous.
What about the notes? Theres nothing special going on there, other than the fact that they're fast. What gives his choice of notes more "Musicality" than Jaco's, other than the fact that its more pleasing to your pleb ears?
I've literally only ever heard one fretless player that doesn't sound like absolute shit (Sean Malone). And yet, probably thanks to fucking Jaco, every shitty bassist thinks they need a fretless for "muh expression" even though it always sounds like farts and none of them ever have good intonation.
God I hate bass players. Why do they always fall for every shitty meme and end up embarrassing themselves?
I know there's a lot of Chappie hate but first impressions had me thinking that it was a nice looking bass. The Fame Baphomet strikes me as a little too Jazz/Funk. Quality-wise, though, I'd side with the latter.
i'm not a bass player, but why do fretless electric bassist almost always sound like that?
double bass is a beautiful sounding instrument... i dont know what the fuck happened to electric fretless bass
First acoustic, had it for a bit. Took it camping, unfortunately it does have a little tiny bit of damage but its not structural damage. Small chip.
Took it to GC, the guy at the counter was rocking a thick, thick mustache, probably in his sixties at the time, he told me about stringing an acoustic, showed me how, and introduced me to brass coated strings and thicker dunlop picks (Tortex green .88mm). He got me a new pick guard, repaired my old tuners (the gear inside one was cracked and another was loose), polished up my epiphone and gave it new life.
Posted my (not working) Laguna a few threads back. Saving up for a new amp and electric.
It's not because he plays jazz. I love Eric Johnson for example.
Also, we're focusing on Billy Sheehan but I mentioned David Ellefson too in the previous thread.
listen to this and show me any solo by Jaco that's more interesting:
My problem with Jaco is that his stuff is just sonic gibberish.
kek, did you have to send him straight to suicide watch?
They just sound right together, it doesn't sound like a random lump of notes. Maybe >>61544653 was right.
didn't know him, he has pretty good tone for playing a fretless. There are some metal bassists that manage to get a similar tone though.
I didn't know that first song in the video but I dig the tone, mainly because it doesn't sound like a fretless bass kek. Most of the others sound similar to Malone.
IDK either, it just sounds like shit. Sounds like a tuba played using air from a deflating baloon kek. I play fretted but some day I want to get an upright too, to play dat rockabilly slap :^).
2012 is fine.
Norlin had some killer Les Paul Customs if you look around, but not too great overall.
A lot of the Norlin lemons have been weeded out by this point. I wouldn't recommend buying without playing though of course.
They're a bit fiddly and the Lo-Pro Edge is the same thing but better.
Schallers on all of my guitars. I forget who the brand is (might be Gotoh?) but there's a company that makes an exact copy of the Schaller strap buttons that are $2-3 for a pair. Can have one set of locks on your strap and buy the copy buttons for each guitar.
>Also gibson quality control is literally non-existant
>Gibsons quality control lately has been absolutely ass
This hasn't been true for a long time now. Since 2012 or so they've been consistently getting better. 2015 was considered a bad year due to the specifications that made no sense, not their quality control.
2014s are fine, 2015 was an overstock thing. They had a very hard time moving them. Like I said before though, it was more because of the specifications than an issue with the quality.
What a beauty. How long have you had that?
It's funny isn't it? This place mellows right out during Aussie peak.
Decent, but you could probably do better for the money. Do they still do a JS30 or JS32? I seem to recall there being a significant quality difference between them and the JS22, but it's been years since I've played anything like that.
They also make a decent looking jazz copy if you're in euroland
>Norlin had some killer Les Paul Customs if you look around, but not too great overall.
I've heard some Explorers were godly too, EX1 or something like that.
>I wouldn't recommend buying without playing though of course.
Exactly my point.
>2014s are fine
If you don't mind about the fret nibs, of course.
By all means, no. Just save up a little more and get a MIJ DK2... Prices are fucking high these days so don't worry about a ding or two. Here are two configs reasonably priced:
Would you guys either get a Momose MIJ Explorer copy or a 2016 Gibson Explorer T?
The Bacchus is more expensive, at about 1.7k. The Gibson is about 1.3k. What would be the advantages of getting the Momose besides it being a korina Explorer?
>They just sound right together, it doesn't sound like a random lump of notes.
haha yeah you just have pleb ears that arent used to anthing outside the small harmonic box they've been brought up in. Thats fine, but to dismiss it as wank while at the same time venerating Sheenans "Heres all the technqiues i can do in 10mintues" wankathon because you prefer the scale he's using is ludicrous.
>Maybe >>61544653 was right
Yeah maybe the guy suggesting that liking Jaco prohibits me from being able to appreaciate the music of a guy who also, by the same logic, must not have good enough ears to appreaciate his own stuf, because he really likes Jaco. Or maybe you're both stupid twats.
E2 Explorers from that era are pretty great.
Something like this >>61545216 or an RG550/RG560 wouldn't be much more.
If you look at DK2s, I'd stick to DK2Ms. They only made them with the better hardware. For other DK2 you'll want to find out when they made the hardware on them better and check that against the serials.
I'd get a Gibson Explorer. I've had one for many many years and it's always been one of my favorite and best playing guitars.
Whats some good /gg/ approved software? right now I just Gutar and Bass for it's ear training, metrenome, jam band.
Also, what some of stevie ray vaughan best shit out there? I've really only listened to Jimi, Santana, the kings, and a few others
Nice setup. Post more gear.
When is the funeral? I'll send some Ripperonis from Luigis your way.
Anyone here own a 7 string archtop? Really want to get one but the only affordable one I can find is the $800 Ibanez fartcore with the nonstandard sized pickups.
Any suggestions would be helpful. Mostly want it to comp while playing walking bass lines in a guitar duet/trio setup.
Hendrix was a hack though.
>Overrated hacks edition
Have another actually good bassist doing a meaningful bass solo instead of random farts
I love how you ignored David Ellefson and my request to you to find a bass solo by Jaco that is more interesting. You can't do it because all Jaco did was wankery.
>i dont know what the fuck happened to electric fretless bass
It's just a meme instrument, like 6+ string basses and 8+ string guitars. Its value is its novelty and it sounds like shit.
>For other DK2 you'll want to find out when they made the hardware on them better and check that against the serials.
The dk2s with better hardware always have real seymour duncans in them iirc.
>You can't do it because all Jaco did was wankery.
I can't do it because " you just have pleb ears that arent used to anthing outside the small harmonic box they've been brought up in"
You've made it clear several times now that what makes Jaco's playing wank and Sheenans not is your own aversion to dissonance.
I dont need you to post stu hamm and dave elleson, i'm more than familar with them. When you describe them as "meaningful" and "Musical", you're really just using bullshit terms to say "i like how it sounds more". There's nothing inherently less wanky about them than anything Jaco did.
But why would it be more desirable? For sure the Momose Flying V (or the Bacchus Classic) is preferable to the 2016 Gibson Flying V if just for the aesthetics, but the Explorer is more of a tough decision. Part of the price difference is offset by the hardshell case but of course it's not that much of a difference since you can get an Epiphone case for $90.
>the cacophonic bass fan calls me a pleb
You have admitted that his stuff is dissonant, I think we're done there. Dissonant notes can be used for musical effect, but when all you have is dissonance it becomes cacophony.
>You have admitted that his stuff is dissonant, I think we're done there.
We established that long ago as the sole reason that you proclaim Jaco to be wank. You're a jackass and you have the pussy ears of a small child who can't handle atonality.
>80s meme techniques
It's like japs heard american music 40 years ago and decided it was perfect.
>Overrated hacks edition
I'd post Lars too but this is /gg/, not /dg/
>nonstandard sized pickups
reeeeeee instant deal breaker
STOP DOING THIS GUITAR MAKERS
shitty practice amp, squier standard strat, some old acoustic (tenada or something), some cheapass bass, and some shitty as hell strat ripoff that I basically just fuck around with to help me understand the wiring of gutiars/how to do setups etc.
>post desired gear
tele pickup for my strat and a vox ac30.
>how long have you been playing?
about 8 months
I've used a handful of guitars (epiphones, gibsons, a handful of others) and I like the bridge and necks on strats the most, as well as the sound.
in no specific order: bo madsen, buckethead, john dwyer, Wata from boris, kurt cobain, kevin shields and I guess I like jimi hendrix.
well, I made it a little project to learn full songs, I think it might help me work on my songwriting skills, also playing with people, trying to break out of playing blues-ish stuff when I improvise, because as much as I don't mind blues it's boring and feel unoriginal, the problem is it's so east to play blues sounding things.
so, does anyone have any advice for making original riffs and stuff, I've started using the higher frets and doing lots of sliding and other pointless shit which is helpful in which it makes my stuff sound better In my opinion.
There's not a problem with slapping as long as it's done tastefully.
>You're a jackass and you have the pussy ears of a small child who can't handle atonality.
>implying I don't like Schönberg
m8, you're the pleb here
all you fedora jazz fusion memesters tend to think your music is superior when it's clearly not
>if anything he is underrated
haha I'm surprised it took you fags this long to defend him
his music is shit though
>he likes this
Jaco and Sheehan is the new rondomusic meme in a different shell. Something that's ultimately inoffensive and is based on people's opinions but one person who loves it and another on the opposite side shit up yet another thread because they think they are so important and their opinion is right.
I can't wait until winter break is over so I can neet it up during work hours on weekdays when the threads aren't so fucking annoying to read.
This is coming from someone who likes Jaco and rondomusic. Just stfu about it. People like it and other people dont. It's not a big deal.
Kek fucking idiot
Go to r/bass or Talkbass and observe how every shitty "le epic melodic lead bass slapper" creams his pants every time someone mentions Les and can't help but mention how big of an influence he is on their "style"
Fucking bassists. Glenn Fricker was right
>Glenn Fricker was right
of course he was. He's politically incorrect, like Will Gelvin.
>tfw gearspammer was better than all this shitposting
Its at least different enough where its interesting even if its not one of their best songs
Only pretentious hipsters and stupid 14yos hate Primus
Everyone else knows that theyre the most talented 3 piece since Rush, even if they dont like their music
>implying the only wrong side wasn't the rondo shills claiming those guitars are on par with $1k+ Gibsons and Fenders
>implying that's a meme
tonewood pro go extinct
Man I wish the Americans would fucking go to sleep already instead of ruining it for the rest of the world.
By the way if I was looking for a decent tele in the $1000-$2000 AUD range where would I be looking, would prefer at least a humbucker in the bridge rather than having to route it to fit one, not just Fender as well any brand would do fine. if it has a trem like a OFR that'd be a plus too I guess.
>inb4 muh tele single coils
Something American/Japanese/Euro made would be preferable thanks.
Guys you've been at it for ages, holy shit, this is getting pathetic, turn off the PC and walk away you useless cunts, Jesus.
>all you fedora jazz fusion memesters tend to think your music is superior when it's clearly not
>it's clearly not
There's probably more musical quality in my ringtone than in your whole computer:
Never said I agreed with them. I like them, I just don't think they are on par with obviously better made instruments. They are as good as anything in their price range. I'm just saying people on two extremes are both retarded for arguing about it on an anonymous forum where you definitely aren't going to convince someone of anything.
Shit I just realized everything I'm typing is also being done in vain and I'm as bad as them
lel, those kinds are the worst. And I say this as a bassist.
Lead bass CAN be good, but more often than not it's not. It's great for rockabilly and some kinds of metal (think Lemmy, although he was far from a traditional bassist).
I know that it's good for playing in the classical position, but I've never played like that. I guess I could learn, but eh.
That's a pretty Les Paul
Definitely gonna need to get some Schallers then.
Any idea how to get the tone from the intro to this song guys?
>I know that it's good for playing in the classical position, but I've never played like that. I guess I could learn, but eh.
funny, I have problems with the strat copy I bought 2 months ago because I've always preferred classical position and the corvette copy I own makes that position really good but the strat not so much.
kek, hi5 bro. We're probably responsible for 45% of the shitting each. I've been shitting on him since the last thread.
kek, beggars can't be choosers. I've made the last 2 OPs and many of them before. Having controversial meme OPs makes things more interesting.
>out of the way, plebs, patrician bassist coming through
It's a hard fight but someone's gotta fight it.
>2 of the commenters wear fedoras
top kek, I rest my case
What do you guys think of Dan from BTBAM?
I think he's really good, but tends to overplay occasionally. His tone is also really nice. It sits well in the mix but its just a tad muddy to me
this is great
he went through all that trouble of finding those two pieces of wood and routing out a neck slot on both of them because a youtube video pissed him off
his recordings are shit though, wish they were longer and recorded better
we're not spamming the thread, and we're at least 2 on the shitting on jaco with proper arguments side. I don't know how many are defending jaco but they're surely the ones spamming with their pretentious bullshit.
>they still haven't managed to find any Jaco solo that comes even close Ellefson's one
I guess as a guitar builder he takes it pretty seriously. His 2 piece neckthroughs are amazing BTW. Even better than conventional neckthroughs
Anyone have any experience with railhammer pickups? The chisel looks interesting but I'm a bit apprehensive to drop $100 on a new bridge pickup when their whole design philosophy might just be a gimmick. Any input appreciated.
Pic not related but its my current rig soi thought I'd post it
but he was
He just gets hyped because he joined the 27 club like Cobain, who is another overrated hack
It's not hard to mention people wildly more influential than him. Off the top of my head, Keith Richards and Paul McCartney.
>He just gets hyped because he joined the 27 club like Cobain, who is another overrated hack
Oh my god, are you for real? It's 20-fucking-15, guy. Insensitive people like you are why the world is in such a terrible state.
Just got this used but almost like new artcore as-73 for $220.
Too bad I don't have an among yet. Any entry level brands I should look into?
>not just going digital
Get with the times, buddy. Get a good interface and ignore what the autistic screaming children tell you - you'll save money and still get some killer tones.
I just came up with this kind of jazzy chord progression roughly in G# minor. Can someone play it for me and upload to clyp or vocaroo? I can play it one chord at a time, but some of the stretches are hard to string together fluidly
Also if you can help me with the chord names. I'm not sure on any of them except for the G#m9 and G#m11
lmao, yeah, an amp.
New pic because the other one was kinda stupid
>You forgot to quote but I'll forgive you because you posted kyouko
I thought the greentext was enough. I don't know who the anime girl is, found her googling animated pics for "laughing anime girl" :^)
I hate anime but like using it for trolling, funposting and similar purposes.
no way, I despise weaboo faggotry. I have a bias against most things Japanese except for their guitars, electronics and their musical scales. I even dislike their cars, although I considered getting one because it was the best thing I could afford with popup headlights. I get mad over Girls und Panzer faggots saying "Panzer Vor" in WoT.
I bought an ibanez super tube STL overdrive at a garage sale. How do I do the asymmetrical clipping mod on this thing?
There are like 5 sets of diodes on the PCB. Nothing online as it's apparently a rare pedal (150 on le ebay). Basically a tubescreamer with a midrange boost knob.
Best bet is to ask on a forum that specializes in mods/etc or an actual Ibanez forum too like Jemsite MIGHT be able to help.
They aren't that expensive/rare, plus it seems like he got it for a steal.
What is the name of that thing that spins around sometimes real fast and other times slow?
