What is the most mediocre album that this community fawns over constantly?
i'm pretty sure nobody on here even likes hospice anymore
which is good, because it's pretty fucking bad
nowhere near as bad as pic related tho, this shit's genuinely in the runnings for the worst album i've ever heard
I love Twin Fantasy but even I can say, it only resonates with me because I'm gay. Its not particularly interesting, and I can't see the feels hitting unless you've explored your sexuality before.
I enjoy listening to it, but I don't think I can say its a good album.
Its been /mu/core for awhile.
I like Hospice but its not really a great album.
Kettering, Atrophy, and Bear are really good songs but the others lyrically sorta miss the mark. I wish the album followed more of what they did with Sylvia (An Introduction) off of the EP prior to Hospice.
That song came from a really interesting and heartbreaking perspective. That sort of song writing is exactly why Kettering and Atrophy are also good songs.
Overall its like a 6/10. Its good but overrated beyond belief.
In The Attic of the Universe and Burst Apart are both better lyrically at least.
Everything this board likes is obnoxious P4K approved trash beloved by those who claim hating anything that has been listened to by more than just 6 people, and is unlistenable noise, so everything /mu/ likes.
Pic related, closely followed by Lift Yr Skinny Fingers Like We're Pretentious Hacks
Hospice is great
Don't you get Wake? He's in an abusive relationship and he's made excuses for her all this time and pushing his friends away, it really brings through that relief you feel when someone you love clinging to an unhappy relationship finally decides to break away. Most people look at Hospice in a wrong way, it's not about cancer or death at all, and I could understand how senseless the last songs, which are meant to clear the lines between metaphor and reality, could be taken for.
>this isn't mentioned yet
title song is bad. why is there a dramatic emphasis on "KIIIIIIIIING"?
this album is the definition of mediocre
Who actually thinks Hospice is about death? Generally around here people understand its about an abusive relationship.
Wake is okay but the lyricism could use some work.
>When your helicopter came and tried to lift me up, I put its rope around my neck
Stuff like that means well, and what its saying is powerful, but it says it poorly.
In essence its really powerful but Peter's weak lyricism comes off as whiny most of the time.
The tone of the album does not resemble an abusive relationship. The only song that gets the feeling and reality of abuse right is Atrophy.
Thematically it hit pretty close to home for me and he employed a lot of the kinds of lo-fi production that I always incorporated into my music, so while I'm pretty ambivalent on a lot of the tracks there are quite a few that I have a weirdly intimate perspective on.
How To Leave Town is a genuinely good album though. I think his biggest problem is that his shit goes for way too long, like who releases something with 10 tracks that goes for over an hour and calls it an EP?
>the only thing that matters in music are the lyrics of a song when read as a whole
good job, buddy
it's not like they're just phrases intended to evoke a mood in the listener and not really intended to be understood on an objective, poetic basis
i mean, christ, it's not leonard cohen
There is literally no other credible choice other than Neutral Milk Hotel and Death Grips. Both grating and average as can possibly be.
While the term mucore is incredibly cringey, most of the albums, including Hospice, tend to be pretty good tbf senpai
pretty awful once you wise up to its tricks
ITT: people post popular albums on /mu/ claiming they're mediocre but they don't know what mediocre means and only base it off their opinions of genres, styles, etc.
THIS FUCKING ALBUM
FUCK IT'S AWFUL
thank god I'm not the only person here who genuinely hates it
Look, people on here can say they're 7/10 or 8/10 all they want on here. That's alright. To me they're absolute perfection, but people still think they're good.
You just crossed the line though, fucker
Worst: MPP (lowest of /mu/core)
Middle: Kid A, or perhaps Loveless (talked about as equally as its worth in all fairness)
Best: Downward Spiral (among other tertiary /mu/core)
Pretty simple - the more it's brought up in the context of an argument, the shittier it is - i.e. Nail thread made only to comment about how Hole or Ache is better and how stupid everyone is, or an Amnesiac vs. Kid A thread made only to...well whatever, you get it. The less it's brought up in a contentious manner, the better (it's 4chan so inherently, less threads then) it is. If it's still brought up at a decent frequency with threads that contain little to no arguing, it's great. If those threads yield recommendations, it's even greater. This tends to be accurate in my experience.
ITAOTS is an anomaly. It is not an album. It's effectively a meme. Drum or potato? W/e - it's our Beatles - we all know the songs, may not all like them, but we accept them as culture.
absolutely mediocre, liked it for the first ~20 listens then it became boring as hell
I like it and his other works
good, but not my kind of jam tbqhwyf
>The money store
so much contrarian faggotry it hurts
it has some weak points but is great overall
Red and Larks' tongues are better, but it's nowhere near mediocre
Spiderland is the best of /mu/core desu
great album, not /mu/core
too many memers on here memeing "it's a meme not an album lol"
it's to be expected from an album that doesn't make suburban white boys feel safe and validated
