I guess japanese pictures are largely used in vaporwave art because in 80s specially and in 90s japanese culture was almost untouchable and very different, and high tech entertainment stuff came from there, so lots of sony, sharp, nintendo and panasonic stuff was the dream of consuption of children, teenagers and young-adults of that time.

BTW, entire floral shoppe, saint pepsi and other albums from many artists remembers me a lot of the time I was into a small shopping mall with my parents backing in 1989 to buy NES cartridges and eat pizza.
