Comment with your university and meet local /mu/tants
Which one of you fags wrote "Jenny Death when" in the MSB?
Most people in the audio department either are total autists, EDM fags, pop punk fags, or G D C singer songwriters. The rare percent of the population that likes whatever shows up on /mu/ are either neckbeards or non existent in the sunlight
There's no chance. My school is filled with rich kids and is smaller than most high schools. Still love it tho.
Fuckin' blows because they play acoustic songs all in Eb standard with the same chords about relationships. And that's all fine and good, but it doesn't age well and most of the songwriters overall suck. /rant
But seriously it's not even decent indie, more indie punk.
the fray played here once and a lot of people really really liked it
I know so many fucking people at your school. Practically my entire high school from nova went there. I go to W&M.
JMU= Just Mediocre University
= Just Missed UVA
I'm a pretentious dick, though.
literally never seen anyone here except a couple anons asking what it's like
Just in case there's some knc guys in here.
Doubt there's a patrician country fratboy scene
I dont disagree with you man, I'm actually from fluvanna (really close to charlottesville). I just went because it was the best school that accepted me. Can't say I've enjoyed any kind of music scene so far though (im a freshman). What high school did you go to?
SUNY University at Buffalo represent! We're just kinda ok almost maybe perhaps sometimes!
Comp Sci is pretty fucking cool if that stuff interests you. People will have no idea what you do though. Most will think you're just trying to make vidya. Good luck if you pursue it.
already graduated but still in the ATL. has no music degrees of course, but had a couple sweet computer music courses, I only got to take one.
Not OP. I did PSEO (take college classes in high school, for anyone who didn't grow up in mn/whereever else has it) at UMNTC, and I was overall satisfied. You're going to have to give more information though, what are you like, what's your major, etc.?
This is true, it's definitely worth looking into if you have an interest in STEM
That said, I passed up on a full ride from UMN for another college where i'm paying 10k/year, so clearly I can't recommend it completely (not trying to brag, sorry, just want to make my position clear), but, like I said, it's definitely a good school
I notice a higher-than-expected number of Stony Brook students on /mu/. I think it's the combination of it's mid/high-level status, legendarily miserable and depressing campus, and autistic student body.
(I didn't go to Stony Brook, I just grew up in Port Jeff)
yeah it's always weird seeing a ~30 year old still dressing like a pop punk kid. but whatever. i think all of that is because of how easy it is to get picked up by a random label and suddenly play Warped tour three weeks later. but yeah i was dying laughing from randomly seeing that and how true it is. i've never mentioned it to anyone else. so funny.
Michael Jordan went here and some muslims got ganked the other day.
Chapel Hill has a fucking killer music scene too.
I know I'm not the only Seattle University one here.
>>53555211 here, seconding that umntc's cs program is cool
also, minneapolis is a cool city, but i'm biased because i grew up there
if you're leaning towards it right now, i'd say go for it
I'm on leave from F&M. I'll be back in the fall. I knew some people who went on 4chan, but neither of them were /mu/tants. One of them was kind of strange. Kind of a really positive and charming autist? I would get stoned with the other dude all the time. Good taste, but mostly techno and deep house he found on SoundCloud + NMH and the Front Bottoms.
Oh yeah, same here, but they changed the district so a ton of spics and nig nogs got sent to my otherwise okay school. It's filthy now. It doesn't really matter tho, I got into my top choice so IDGAF about the degenerates I went to high school.
Where do you go to school? I'm at Tech.
I'm actually taking that class right now haha. Yeah he's a garbage prof that should have retired years ago. This class is a joke and he's been out sick for like a week straight so I'm not complaining
I'm not at umntc so I can't really say much about its program. I'm at Texas A&M, but I think CS is great. More advice, one main thing to understand is that CS is not just coding. Its a whole new way of thinking. The one disadvantage is the weird people it attracts. Most just are in it because of game design. Like previously mentioned, most people have no idea what it entails. My ex gf thought CS was IT and thought I was learning about antivirus software and shit.
I digress, but I hope you love it as much as I do.
i hear ya, its cool anon :^)
not like there is a single thing to do in Palm Bay. There's the Broken Barrel. I think that's literally it. I hate Melbourne. Satellite Beach is aiite though.
>Most will think you're just trying to make vidya
Had that happen to me (at least) once.
>"So what do you do for fun?"
>I'm a programmer.
>"Oh, what kind of games do you make?"
>I don't, I'm a serious programmer.
>"Oh, okay. So what kind of games do you make?"
Student music scene is ass outside of a dope punk band and two sick funk bands, but we bring some cool bands like STRFKR, Mac DeMarco and Baths, so it's not that bad
Nobody better fucking reply to this, cuz if you do it means you aren't at Muses and you better have a great excuse
Whatever man, I had fun at the shows
We were trying to get Lil B for the spring concert but our school doesn't want a bunch of black people showing up (swear to god)
They got Dan Deacon and the shins recently too, and Common was pretty dope
Alright here's a tip. I got an A in the class and learned nothing. Do the Snap! labs but then save them. It saves to your cookies so as long as you don't delete your history it'll be fine. then when he tests you just open up your save file and show him. Also on the written tests, just write a lot. It doesn't have to mean anything but he's too lazy to actually read anything so he'll just give the points.
Horrible teacher and class but super easy
SFSU/San Francisco State University
>tfw the stupid fucking alligator that was spawned of a type is better than this shitty seal
Not than anyone from my uni posts here, the best I can hope is for my stanford or UCB betters to take pity on a lowly state student like myself.
oh haha, well that wasn't me with the death classic shirt. i do go up to BC though, to go to the library. that one library that feels like you are in a church is really amazing. you have a beautiful campus. your libraries are 100X better than northeastern's
I know that feel bro. What's even worse IMO is how like half my CS program actually fits that stereotype, as soon as anyone breaks out any theory you get little bitches moaning about how it's not going to help them make the next flappybirds or whatever.
Fuck, didn't even see they were in town, I totally would have, but this is my night to get done everything responsible I have to do before the 4 day drug and alcohol and sex binge on the way
Yeah, that's Bapst. It's a beautiful place but it's really intimidating because it's always so quiet that just the sound of moving a chair to start studying gets all eyes on you. The campus is pretty great though, I agree (aside from like 3 buildings)
I've got a couple friends who go to Northeastern and I've been in two of the dorms but I don't think I've ever actually been on the campus itself. Good place though according to my friends
Just saw that a few days ago
there's probably some /mu/ people who go here, considering the high hipster/burnout population and the fact that i saw death grips graffiti in the bathroom the other day
heya, i've got some pretty cool michigan tech friends, see if you can find them
i think flowtribe is playing different spots through the whole weekend. and same friday-monday is going to be a blur. mardi gras day is lame, bunch of nig nog truck parades, i'll probably go to metairie instead.
I totally agree, the whole four years was worth it just for the automata theory class.
I don't even hate on people who want to get their weeb on, I'll shitpost /a/ from time to time, but when your whole social life is that... ugh, I can't even imagine.
Did you go last year? Day-of was fucking miserable. I bailed like half an hour in
You going to Endymion? I'm making my ladyfriend dinner so I don;t think I'll be able to make it. But I'm gonna try to hit up a lot of aftershows
Right on the very edge of the boundary, but yeah. Could be worse, I guess - we had Foxy Shazam out here a few months back, and there's generally a few other decent acts that roll through.
I'm looking forward to that. I'm only at the data structures/run-times side of things. I can't wait to get into the higher level material.
The one perk of the programming side is I can listen to several albums while coding. I just find all the other stuff fascinating.
nah i actually used to go to school out of state but i transferred home last summer so it'll be my first mardi gras after a 2 year hiatus so i'm fucking ready to get belligerent.
yea i'm going, but it's better to miss Endymion since it rolls the midcity route and it always sucks going from parades uptown all day and then having to find your way to midcity
Once drove out to DeKalb to see The Dear Hunter a few years back. Didn't think I'd ever drive out there to see a band.
Anyway, DeKalb is a good place to get drunk. Might visit my best friend down there when I head back to Illinois for spring break,
the main one is super loud and the law school one doesnt make any sense in terms of the lay out. the boston consortium is nice though, we can get books from any libraries in the city really.
i have a lot of reading to do and i really enjoy a super quiet library, especially living in the city.
Yeah, I get that. BC's pretty good about quiet study places, we've got Bapst and the upper two levels of the other library that looks like a giant stone wall that are quiet study only which is pretty cool, I live off campus though so I don't really get to capitalize on it all that much
any upenn homies out there (i'll also accept drexel)
People like that should have no worries then, they'll probably never make it that far. I tell everyone who asks me about programming that if it doesn't hurt, they're doing it wrong.
I'm finishing (read: pissing away) my second year at junior college, about to transfer next year. The only "computer science" class offered (because bumfuckistan campus) is some bullshit MS Office intro that I have to take. I would KILL for some theory.
>probably not considering the amount of northerners going to lsu now
i'm from louisiana and hicks are still p abundant tbh. but how do u kno a lot of northerners go to lsu nowadays? i never really thought about it, but it kinda makes sense. i know a decent amount of people that came from the northeast.
Found out my roommate frequents KTT. What do?
If you can take a compiler class hop on that shit. It's not always a mandatory class. For some reason compilers have this reputation as being really low level and nitty-gritty. But they're actually really elegant and beautiful in a formal systems kind of way, but still concrete because like you have to take and output real things at the end of the day.
i'm at shit tier SLU but i have full scholly so it's ok but I go hang in baton rouge with my lsu friends usually every weekend. whenever we go out i meet girls from maryland, ny, mass, or penn. it's weird.
went to moon taxi at the varsity last weekend, they were bretty good.
5 Days off and counting. They added 2 Saturday Schools. School is goyim for sure but I dont pay anything so cant complain as much as the kids that are dropping 240k for the diplolma.
Gym stays open and more time to listen to new music so p. cool. I like snow anyway
