I don't think anyone believes that Mac Demarco is amazing because he's not trying to be, He's trying to do his own thing and just be chilled out and enjoy himself which I can appreciate. Abigail Washburne - solo banjo, created a unique style of music: a mixture of authentic American and Chinese folk music. Inspired by Bela Fleck in a lot of ways. Experiments with the banjo a lot. Doc Watson - more folk than bluegrass, but he's the best bluegrass guitar picker basically ever. He pretty much invented bluegrass guitar picking; he played melodies so fast that somebody suggested he could probably play fiddle tunes on the guitar, so he did. I've just realized saying "proggy djent" is kind of a tautology, since, at least according to RYM, djent is a subgenre of progressive metal; I probably meant proggy in the sense that I feel a really prog rock esque sensibility in the overall songwriting of the album

Pelagial is my first Ocean album and I wasn't too fond of it. The Avenged Sevenfold-esque clean vox and djentish sections killed it for me. The softer, more atmospheric sections never really succeeded at setting a certain scene either. The heavier parts were fucking insane though.

I have the same feelings about it. It has some really amazing tracks, and some really forgettable tracks. Not sure if it will beat out the new TesseracT album for best djent album of the year, but it'll be close. As for melodic djent, Shell From Oceanic's Ambivalence us a really good instrumental album they I think you should check out

Check out Digable Planets and Shabazz Palaces if you liked A Tribe Called Quest. If you like hip-hop with good production and instrumentals, check out Dalek (From Filthy Tongues...).

If you liked NMH, you could try out Angel Olsen (Half Way Home, Strange Cacti, Burn Your Fire). She plays indie-folk with country influence and minimal instrumentation.

If you like Flotus, you could try out Oneohtrix Point Never.

If you like Bjork, try out Glasser. If you haven't tried out Bjork, check out Homogenic, Post, Vespertine, Vulnicura, and Medulla.
