does anybody on /mu/ use soulseek to find music? i have a friend who swears by it, but it kinda just looks like another limewire. curious to hear opinions from people who have used it
>>
Soulseek is love, soulseek is life

DONT YOU EVER TALK SHIT ABOUT SOULSEEK AGAIN YOU HEAR ME YOU STUBBORN LITTLE FUCK
>>
>>53540315
It is the most popular download choice here with Rutracker
>>
>>53540315
I use it as a last resort when I can't find stuff anywhere else

I have a pleb friend who listens to single songs, so I introduced soulseek to him and he seems to like using it
>>
>>53540338
>>53540336
this confirms it's brought by some ad/shill company, take your business elsewhere
>>
>>53540315
Yes, it's simple enough to use and a good way to find obscure stuff. If you however only listen to reasonably popular music then I see no need for it, as depending on the user downloads can take quite a while.
Also, if you download from people you are expected to share music yourself.

Can you get banned for not sharing on SS?
>>
You can virtually find anything on there. With that and rutracker you should have no problem finding anything.
>>
It's the best place to find new music, it has almost everything, so yeah it's pretty great
>>53540765
I don't think so
>>
>>53540765
You can ban person to person (or be banned) but not from the whole platform.

I have shared folders but I can't open my ports to actually upload to people so whatever. Lots of people ban me as soon as I start downloading from them but then I just find someone else who upped the same thing, nbd.
>>
>>53540765
Some people won't let you download from them if you're not sharing anything, I think

Either way you can make a single album shareable and you'll be fine
>>
>>53540467
I'm trying to help the guy not get v&
it's been around since 2000 do you REALLY think no company brought it out or took action yet?
>>
It's great, I even found the whole discography of a communistic underground band of the 70s and 80s from the Czech republic. And then a bunch of other stuff you can't get on TPB, e.g. Derniere Volonte or Allerseelen.

SoulSeek is great
>>
soulseek is a great way of finding almost any album you might be looking for - although in some cases, you'll have to be content with lower bitrates than what you'd find elsewhere (what, rutracker) and more often than not you'll have to tag the downloaded albums yourself if you care about proper tags

the community is also very helpful and polite (as long as you also share something) - one guy sent me a zippy link to the album i wanted to download from him because the queue was too long, and when i accidentally shared my porn folder, my chat was flooded with thanking messages in a few hours :^)
>>
Use it primarily to find rare albums, that were only shared on some old blogspot pages, but whose mediafire links are long dead. There's always someone who dl'd them in time.
>>
It literally is another Limewire, DC++, whatever other P2P sharing program you used in the 90s and early 00s, except it's solely used for music. It's pretty okay, but only because people share a lot of obscure stuff there. Everything else about it is more or less shit.
>>
There are no girls with shaky orgasms on SS so you'll be okay
>>
>>53540837
thats weird ive downloaded a lot of stuff and dont share and ive never been banned from anyone
>>
I can find what I'm looking for 9/10 times. The chatrooms are great for specific genre/niche discussion. It's also a good feeling to be the one to provide the first DL for a certain band/album, something really obscure or hard to find, knowing you've made the search for a like minded stranger that much easier.
>>
>does anybody on /mu/ use soulseek
It's like you really just started browsing this board yesterday. I'm not even trying to be some secritclubfag but you really should lurk for a while before you make a thread like this, there are soulseek threads pretty much everyday and there have been for quite a while.
>>
>>53540850
It's kind of weird, I've run into people who, when you try to download their stuff without sharing anything yourself, a message will pop up saying to share before you download but I've never had an account not allow me to download their stuff because of it.
>>
>>53542982
you can set your client to autosend a "hey, you're not sharing" message to leechers, but actually finding and blocking them takes much more attention to your upload queue than anybody really gives it.
>>
Anybody wanna share their usernames?
>>
>>53543178
Rammon

I let all my music folder to share
>>
>>53540315
It's pretty damn good, doesn't have everything, but definitely far more than Limewire, for people that actually care about music some. Wishlist is a nice function, sidelist of users too. Queues are infinite sometimes w/some people, it does tend to dl eventually unless they never log. There are very very few random elitist banfags, of course ban them back when it happens i guess. I do same for people w/ any really long rules list profile mostly when I notice, rare but cringey when you see it. Chatrooms too if you're into that.
>>
>>53540765
Specific user-wise, yes. Globally, no, only from goofy elitists, some even for under 4000 shared or unorganization or w/e, very rare, I figure most people are chill enough not to care.
>>
>>53543456
Cacespace
>>
>>53540441
This guy knows what he's talking about with popular music.

I usually default to soulseek as my first option, but if I try something even somewhat popular, have to queue for it.
>>
I use it for stuff that's too obscure for what.cd
>>
Soulseek is better than what.cd
>>
I really have no idea what would have happened to me if Napster and its disciples never existed, it's all so instant and easy regardless of the user's upload speeds.
>>
>>53540315
Yeah, I find about 95% of what I'm looking for on soulseek. Even obscure stuff. It's amazing.
