What is the worst genre of music? I've heard arguments for jungle, metal, and hip hop.
you mean seriously?
midwest emo is a close second though
those are like the two least interesting subgenres of metal.
even power metal can be kind of entertaining i guess
>judging based on appearance
>not enjoying ridiculousness if it's taken to extremes like that
>people in japan are making millions of jap-coins dressing like anime characters on stage playing cheesy final fantasy music
post-anything are not real genres
makes it sound like they're final developments of the genre. Like, what are you going to name dubstep 10 years from now on?
Future-genre, then comes what exactly? post-galactic new age mumbo jumbo
only because it's been so thoroughly marketed that certain sounds are automatically connected with them, atleast in your head
it means nothing in connection to rock music and its' history
We didn't nuke Japan hard enough.
Holy shit I'd even go far enough to say this is worse than glam metal, at least glam metal artists didn't take themselves seriously
In terms of large broad genres, I'd say hip hop by far. But more specific stuff like folk punk, metalcore and it's subgenres, anti-folk, and modern post-hardcore are all pretty fucking horrible
Visual Key is the gay Japanese brother of power metal that looks like Final Fantasy buttfucked Twisted Sister in the vagina and forced Twisted Sister to listen to dragonforce for 9 months until Visual Kei was born.
Well you do have to consider what the intention behind the music is. It's almost exclusively just hard dance music, it serves no other purpose, and it doesn't take itself too seriously.
To really answer this question you'd have to take into consideration more things than just the quality of the music. How it's perceived, appreciated, and fittingly judged in our culture.
I mentioned techno and house earlier because it's just hilarious how the artists actually think they're making any worthwhile art, or think their opinions on the subject of music matter in the first place.
You see a boiler room set on yt and the comments are filled with pseudo-elitist manchildren who bring up Justin Bieber every time someone mentions they don't like the music, like we're back in 2010.
More or less worse than edm or any other dance genre i could think of
The worst part is, you can tell by the way they write their songs, they think they're hot shit and flaunt their faux-classical influence as if it means something.
Well, in Japan they're hot shit. Of course it wouldn't fly anywhere else than in Japan, but in Japan visual kei artists are almost worshiped similar to how teenagers worship thrash metal.
>it wouldn't fly anywhere else
It's spread into Russia, m8, and the worst part judging on this video, this russian band must be popular if it has this big of a budget.
Japan's a wonky place. Symphonic power metal and bubblegum j-pop is popular at the same fucking time. I know a guy from Japan who came to Canada and thought it was completely odd that there wasn't a power metal/visual kei station.
Oh god this is so shit
I love how the best album is 2.68 and there's only 3 albuns < 2
my weeb girlfriend dragged me to japan for a vacation even though I barely wanted to go.
she took me to a concert and I didn't even know what the fuck it was.
It was some shitty visual kei band and the hilarious part was, it was crowded. Not just teenagers but also fully grown adults, old people, families. You obviously had the fucking beta nerds in the front dressed like animu characters but it was so fucking contradictory. Shitty band playing pretentious symphonic power metal, yet the area was filled to the fucking rim with people who looked almost completely normal.
It started as straight hair metal. I wish I could remember the old bands but they all sound and look like ratt and cinderella. Then it became what the name implies, a visual subculture all about the look. Now it's more or less dying as a thing. All the bands really pulled back their image and some that would have been visual kei just dress like people.
Kanye West and Lady Gaga don't write obnoxious, pretentious, over-the top orchestral neo-classical power metal.
Do you really think this would fly in an American or European pop station?
EUA is like
>urr durr eletronic tuts tuts LOUDER
Japan is like
>urr durr metal oh so classical LOUDER
Is not different, the same comercial shit, the only thing that changes is the style and genre
I can imagine being Japanese now
>driving home from work on a really tough day
>get my chingchong noodles from takeout
>turn up radio
>orchestras and fast guitars and operatic vocals
Why does nobody like Burial? He's barely /mu/core anymore, I don't see anyone talking about Burial unless they're talking about how plen Untrue was so they can feel better about themselves.
>Liking metal =/= Metalhead
almost got me
Worst genres have to be something like
>noise (not even music)
>hardcore metal (it all sounds the same)
>rap hip-hop (complete shit only exception being aesop rock)
It's sad how much black music has changed. From classy high quality Jazz to Rap and Hip-Hop. Fucking disgraceful.
but he was telling the truth, hardcore punk + metal literally is metalcore
also see pic related
So if there is metalcore, dronemetal, stonermetal, deathmetal, sludgemetal, and at its core it is METAL... how can you even tell the difference between genres since all metal sounds the same?
>how can you even tell the difference between genres since all metal sounds the same
Get a fucking load of this guy
I bet you don't lurk and be just like "uh satan distorted guitar shit"
In the 80s/90s both regular heavy metal bands like Loudness and thrash/speed acts like Rosenfeld or Casbah dressed like that in Japan.
Check this video for shits and giggles:
Are you even trying /mu/ ?
more like a didgeridoo tribute, and i cant pick a single jungle element from it ffs do you even know what you're talking about
even then, it's only fitting that jungle died off.
techstep more or less improved everything
again, that's great, but it's not jungle, if you think it's jungle just cause it has reggae vocals and fast breakbeats, you really need to look up some more jungle. may i recommend jungle hits vol 1,2,3
