My favorite Beck album is Mellow Gold, most nostalgic, too
Award show mad is always the best mad
this. their tears are delicious.
but beyonce has worked harder this year than most people will in their entire lives. so not taking away from her.
but her ratchet and wannabe-ratchet fanbase can seriously eat a dick.
i'm so fucking happy beck won. "Beyonce sold more albums", and? Pretty sure the grammy's aren't a competition for units sold.
I'm not saying Beyonce's album wasn't good, personally I didn't like it, but that's beside the point. Though it's gonna be annoying to open literally any social network for the next 2.5 years and see sporadic posts about how Beck personally stole from and oppressed Beyonce.
i said to myself at the start of this how funny it would be if beck won his first grammy for aoty with what is easily the worst thing he's ever put out.
i'm both kind of happy and kind of mad right now.
>Pretty sure the grammy's aren't a competition for units sold.
It literally used to be. That's the only reason Taylor Swift won a few years ago.
Now, all you have to do to win AOTY is have a steady fanbase but be non-existent on the radio.
I'm happy about it. I have a few friends who are annoying pop types and I'm happy to see 'em a little riled about it.
Also anyone here ever listen to the 3 singles he put out in between Modern Guilt and Morning Phase? Easily some of my favorite songs by him.
Anyone else here love this album? It's his most underrated IMO. It even features Calvin fucking Johnson from Beat Happening.
>Stereopathetic Soulmanure and Mellow Gold are by far his best work. Imho nothing comes close to them. They both have a huge troutmask influence
fuck yall, this nigga know where it at
>tfw all of a sudden /mu/ loves Beck again
/sp/ are gone now /mu/.
you can stop pretending and go back to ignoring this "loser."
I remember listening to Mellow Gold when I was 13, my dad's friend gave me a bunch of his old CD's. Mellow Gold's cover stuck out the most so I listened to it. Probably the first album I listened to as a whole in my life. Praise Beck
absolutely fucking priceless, when will they learn white people only laugh when they get mad
>she is literally mad
lol bitch beyonce doesnt even care about you
>Morning Phase > Mellow Gold
>Morning Phase > Mellow Gold
>Morning Phase > Mellow Gold
>Morning Phase > Mellow Gold
>Morning Phase > Mellow Gold
Listen to One Foot in The Grave
That>Sea Change>Guero>Odelay>Information>Midnite Vultures>Mutations> Stereopathic Soulmanure>Golden Feelings>Mellow Gold>Morning Phase>Modern Guilt
They're all pretty good though.
>you couldn't go anywhere without hearing it at one point in time
Not really. I've heard it once in a while back then and we sang it like IGUTATUMTUMTUMUSINAMICROPHONE but not the "hear it everywhere" kind of thing.
Who is this mysterious musician anyway? Is Beck his real name? Where did he come from?
I personally think Midnight Vultures, but I'm way in the minority. It's his most fun and I think that's why people don't appreciate it as much, they think he is joking around. It has some of his best production and variety imo.
grammy IS a real word.... just look it up in the becktionary
It makes me feel so god damned good that when you guys ask "what is beck's best album?" and you post basically all his albums. I've been such a big fan of his since Modern Guilt and I'm always so happy when his discography is praised. Glad he won that Grammy.
Oh and is acoustic Beck better than electric/hip-hop beck?
i want to argue this but I don't know how I would personally arrange them. like you said they are all good and an any given day any of his albums could be at the top of my list depending on my mood.
I think beck is best when he's being both. Modern Guilt is IMO his high point, he's got some chirpy electric stuff in there while at the same time keeping it rooted in Rock territory
>Rowboat comes to mind, as does the duet he did with Jack White a few years back.
That EP is so great. I wish that project was a whole album of songs like that. Blue Randy is such a throwback lyrically to early anti-folk beck.
>beck should have given his award to beyonce
What a fucking idiot. Beck has worked harder on his craft because he not only preforms but writes his music and can write for others too.
Kanye has now entered Nas territory - entertaining producer who should never speak publicly, ever, because he sounds like a complete moron. Anyone who's read about Beck's albums getting made knows...especially Odelay, that was like back to back to back to back 18 hour days, they worked on that album like it was sweatshop labor. Beck was rapping before Kanye. And he actually, y'know, plays a shit ton of instruments AND does the electronics...TOP KEK
What was Beyonce's "monumental feat"? Selling a lot of albums quickly? That's not the criteria that the Grammy's use. Why do people keep encouraging this kind of behavior from Kanye and from black people in general? Treat everyone like a normal person. If they say or do something wrong, react accordingly. What's so hard about that?
One of the biggest things about Beck is that he constantly changes and flirts with different genres. Generally you could describe him as alternative rock, but clearly it doesn't give you an idea of what he sounds like.
His albums usually have a unifying genre. Midnite Vultures is disco revival. Morning Phase is Folk Rock. Sea Change is Indie Folk. His earlier albums are anti-folk.
the fact that beyonce supporters getting mad at an artists they don't even know and have never even listened to a minute of his music is ridiculous. I mean morning phase was not his best but people bitching and moaning about beyonce not getting album of the year after already winning like what? 20 or so grammys throughout her career?
>on cancer causing tumblr for porn
>see posts about how beck is shit and beyonce deserves the award
>rush over here to listen to more beck and see whats good
all these tears. all these tears. "beck is oppressing black culture and music."
>This album literally came out of nowhere and caused the whole world to stop and listen to an album collectively all at once. Radio was playing the whole album reminiscing about days when music was released like this, literally every article from December leading to the new year was about self-titled. Not only was it a commercial success, it was sonically her best album, not to mention the visual aspects of it were beautiful and brilliant. She deserved to win that category more than anyone else, these are facts.
So underrated it cost me tons finding it. Maybe one of Beck´s best albums.
I don't know if Morning Phase is the album that deserves A grammy, but BECK I think deserves it as an artist. He's been making great albums for years and years, as a performer, songwriter, everything.
Also, he's a great populist music story. Kids can dream of becoming Beck - he was just a broke-ass, scummy kid who loved a lot of folk shit, and just made music to make it until someone bothered to notice. I don't even know what being inspired by Beyonce would look like. Anyone like her is some untouchable fantasy idol thing that doesn't seem to have any connection to reality. Musically, you might as well be inspired by kpop idols.
the thing about people like that is that they all seem to have a narrow scope of music in general and they all think that success should be measured by popularity. hell they don't even realize that beyonce is not the first of many to release their albums in less commercialized ways.
why are you 25+ on a children's music board?
Wanting to be Beyonce is as useful as wanting to be the Duchess of Wales.
You know, I actually lost a lot of my respect for black people today at least the ones on Black Twitter. That they are getting so butt blasted as to demand Beck give back his Grammy because their precious race didn't win pisses me off.
I read all the disrespect and its blowing my mind. I went to Beck show and this guy fucking brings it with all his effort and being. He writes all his own lyrics and could probably beat Kanye in a lyric battle BTW if he wanted to do a straight rap album.
He has been at music before Kanye even started and far longer than Beyonce and all without a huge crew of producers and songwriters that Beyonce had.
Meanwhile I will be wanting the best ARTISTS to win not giving a shit about race.
I love how insanely retroactively meta that line is becoming because Hyundai is actually becoming something of a luxury car.
The Album of the Year award has become a glorified Lifetime achievement award. If Beyonce wants one she can earn one the way Beck did and learn an instrument, rehearse a band and tour them tirelessly and prove her worth beyond one "great" album by making 3 or 4 more just like Beck did after he lost this award for 'Odelay' back in 1997 (to a French-Canadian woman btw). Might help if she also manages to find some clothes to put on and maybe start writing songs about things other than how horny she is and what life is like with a vagina. And don't get me started on the multitudes of other musicians who aren't Beyonce who've never won this "award" whether they were deserving or not.
Hyundai actually stepped their shit up in terms of cars sometime in the mid 2000's. I drive like an 06 Sonata and I've hardly had any issues out of it that I didn't cause myself.
Yeah though, the black sperg-out over Beck winning is fucking ridiculous. Especially that soundcloud rant with that bitch saying the committees kids should die because Beyonce didn't win.
>"Beyonce should have won because she's black and Beck is white and the Grammy's want to tear down talented black artists and award mediocre white artists!"
>people actually believe this
>there will be a new generation of kids that only know Beck as "fucking cracker that stole queen bey's grammy"
I am really happy that he won but at the same time I hate how there is an unneeded backlash
First of all, fuck this children's website for reminding me the Grammy's exist. They have never been relevant in music.
That said, I do think it's too bad Beck has had all this attention drawn to him (I mean, it must just be so embarrassing for him). It's so bizarre that this new generation of kids has access to information that previous generations could never even imagine and yet they all go and make idiots of themselves instead of looking something up first. Beck is one of the most critically acclaimed artists of all time, obviously he's going to win a Grammy now when he's too old to do anything relevant. That's just how these sorts of institutions work and always have.
>In 2009, Claire Boucher and her then-boyfriend from Tennessee constructed a 20-foot houseboat named Velvet Glove Cast in Iron, with the intention to sail down the Mississippi River from Minneapolis to New Orleans. The cargo included food (chickens and 20 pounds of potatoes), a typewriter, and a gifted copy of Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Unfortunately for the pair, the chickens caught the eastern equine encephalitis virus and perished soon into the trip, so their diet consisted mainly of potatoes. The couple adopted the names Veruschka and Zelda Xox for the trip. Due to their disregard for local boating regulations and houseboat's engine trouble, the journey was cut short, as the houseboat was impounded along with the food.
I've been a massive Beck fan for over a decade and he's my favourite solo artist
but I've still not listened to Morning Phase
I've downloaded it now though
>mfw I was playing "Morning" and then closed out of iTunes as soon as I heard his album had won
