So what divides outsider music from experimental or avant garde?
I've heard artists from all three genres, but I'm still not entirely sure.

Ah, then all oceangrunge counts as well.
Wesley Willis is the example of outsider music, and crazy to boot.

Avant Garde music is composed music which goes beyond any conventions that exist in it's genre.
Experimental music technically means music which involved manipulation of sounds (musique concrete, tape music, etc.) but has come to mean any purposefully off kilter music.
Outsider music is music made by non-musicians.

>most of it isn't good
What separates good Outsider to bad Outsider?
>>53426360
IMO, outsider artists don't do what they do for the sake of art or commercial purposes, they simply create because they are compelled. I find them to be slightly more authentic weirdos, less pretentious.

Alright, so it's more about the artist than the album. Thanks.
