what is the most beautiful ambient album you've ever heard? pic related, Pop is probably my runner-up
>what have you been listening to lately
>most anticipated project
>any recent discoveries
share the wealth
>pic related is my favourite
>most recent is Fennesz - Bécs
>most recent discovery are those techno/idm/ambient remixes of Nav Katze
>mostly this and some of Ulver's ambient work, very dark
>recent discovery is Tu M' - Monochromes, reminds me a lot of Ambient 1
love An Empty Bliss Beyond This World
>can't pick a fav, but some of my favs are Super Minerals, The Caretaker, Julianna Barwick, Yoga, Oval, and Zoviet France
>Oasis by Dettinger (pic related), ambient minimal techno
>haven't found anything i've really really liked recently
does this count as ambient? if so, this
I don't have much else to share but you guys have stuff like this feel free to let me know, I love it
That's probably one of my favorite albums of all time. Have you checked out his other stuff? All the Caretaker stuff is good and V/Vm is really interesting, plus he released an ambient album recently under Leyland Kirby, it's pretty good.
Seconding this. Pic related is second most beautiful.
This is absolutely transcendent.
Faint - Taylor Deupree
The Disintegration Loops - Basinski
Mirages - Tim Hecker
Ambient 1 - Brian Eno
I highly recommend vladislav delay's album from last year, probably my ambient AOTY 2014
pic related = jefre
Just listened to it. I see how you could get a sad feeling from it but I feel like that was more on the surface with the slow pace and heavy notes. Still I got a feeling of clarity, and I feel like it the song had a positive outlook or perspective.
Songs that really make me sad are ones that are slightly upbeat such as: Nav Katze - Heaven Electric
Big fan of bvdub's ambient techno style
pic related 'I'll only break your heart'
This is probably my favorite ambient album, tied with Gas' Pop.
2104 was a stellar year for ambient. Highly recommended, in approximate order of how much I liked them:
Loscil - Sea Island
James Murray - Mount View
Christopher Bissonnette - Essays in Idleness
Illuha - Akari
Porya Hatami - Shallow
Vladislav Delay - Visa
Chihei Hatakeyama & Hakobune - It is, it isn't
Marble Sky - s/t
Most beautiful I have heard is definitely And Their Refinement of the Decline by Stars of the Lid
>Arktau Eos (dark/ritual ambient)
>not a lot of ambient
>recent discoveries are Windy & Carl, Yoga, False Mirror and Trial of the Bow
Lately I've been diggin on this.
Scissors and Sellotape - For the Tired and Ill at Ease
I didn't like this album at first, but it's become one of my favorite ambient releases. Those eerie oscillating textures are engaging.
Maybe not the most beautiful but my favorite.
Also really dig Bruce Anderson's Brutality 2: Balkana.
I really like pic related and I like Thaemlitz's deep house oriented stuff. You've probably heard Fennesz's Cendre but if not listen to that.
I think Steve Roach might be my favorite of all time but I've been leaning towards alot of dark ambient lately (pic related is one of my most recent but I've already heard most of his discography). I'm looking forward to the next Celer release but I'm not actively tracking it because their page is usually inveterate and an album will come out of nowhere. My most recent discovery is an album called Oxtirn that's more shitty noise than ambient but it has nice ambient interludes
hooked on this at the moment, all the live instruments are beautiful
That album's amazing, but I associate it with dark times now.
Cool, then post better stuff if you haven't already.
That's a language, but what is it? (on the album cover, I mean)
John Foxx & Harold Budd- Translucene/Drift Music
Reminds me of when I used to go to univeristy down in cornwall and walking in the surrounding fields
fuck I miss those days
This would be so much better if any of you lazy asses actually bothered to post some samples or links.
Yeah right i'm actually going to sit through 24 albums of ambient wankery for maybe 10 good musical ideas overall.
Brian Eno - Thursday Afternoon
Brian Eno - Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks
Brian Eno - Ambient 1: Music for Airports
Brian Eno - Lux
Steve Roach - Structures from Silence
NASA Voyager Recordings - Symphonies of the Planets
Steve Roach - Dreamtime Return
Steve Roach - The Magnificent Void
>Not technically ambient, but other favorites in that same vein:
Emeralds - Does It Look Like I'm Here?Tangerine Dream - Rubycon
Tangerine Dream - Phaedra
Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children
Mark McGuire - An Old Hag's Cackle II
Emeralds - s/t
Emeralds - What Happened
Tony Scott - Music for Zen Meditation
Emeralds - Allegory of Allergies
Tangerine Dream - Hyperborea
Emeralds - The Overlook
Mark McGuire - A Pocket Full of Rain
Steve Hauschildt - Tragedy & Geometry
Manuel Göttsching - Inventions for Electric Guitar
David Lange - Return of the Comet
Tangerine Dream - Zeit
Steve Hauschildt - The Stairwell is Long Gone
Vangelis - L'Apocalypse des Animaux
perhaps you'll enjoy Biosphere Substrata 2
a little darker, not recommended for tripping
bro dude fuck man
I remember having a really deep an intense trip while listening to songs such as "Circassian", "The Other Face", and "The point of it all". It was magical.
>mfw people actually enjoy this album
Latency by Tarentel, it's up at their official website but only available for 128 kbps, I think it was a purely vinyl release hence the poor quality, I've been looking for a better quality download but it's still worth a listen even with that quality (the one in youtube is the same quality, I uploaded it with the mp3s from the website).
Tarentel's Ghost Weight
Tim Hecker's Haunt Me, Haunt Me Do It Again
Rothko's A Negative For Francis
Jefre Cantu Ledesma's Love Is A Stream
Gigi Masin's Wind (and Lontano)
Golden Retriever's Seer
heroin party's summer made me blue; summer gave me sky
Labradford's E Luxo So
Is the title track the greatest ambient piece ever made?
Loscil is one of my favorites, and I especially enjoyed Sea Island. It is very emotionally dynamic, and I think he has mastered his post-Plume craft with this release.
And Their Refinement of the Decline is heavenly. From Plume, "Charlie" is one of the tracks of all music that has made me cry due to its beauty.
one of my fav discoveries this year. Putting this on in a dark room a quiet afternoon while lying in bed was transcendent
Been getting into a lot of piano ambient lately, such as Nihls Frahm, Lubomyr Melnyk, Steve Reich (check out "piano phase", sampled for Tim Hecker's Virgins). Going to venture into Philip Glass
Appreciating more and more Stars of the Lid and AWVFTS albums lately as they help me sleep and are also masterpieces
This is gold
Some quick mentions I didn't see:
Supersilent (jazzy dark ambient with somber sax, check out their 6th album)
Infinite Body, Yellow Swans, Flying Saucer Attack, Kammarheit+Robert Rich(dark ambient), Sleep Research Facility (for bedtime), Ulrich Schnauss, Laraaji
Do you guys like Black Swan?
He (she? they? I dunno, the project is still anonymous afaik) is probably my favourite ambient/drone artist
Pic related would probably be my fav album in the genre, either that or No Dreams by Noveller
More recently I listened to Feathermagnetik by Kira Kira after it got dropped on me in a "listen to the album posted below you" thread and it's definitely the most gorgeous album I've heard in a long time, I'd strongly recommend it
It truly encapsulates what ambient music should be. Background, repetition, no sense of beginning or end, no build up, just passages that serve as a background piece. It's truly beautiful.
