So /mu/ what are the absolute worst gigs you've ever been too or have you been to a gig where something disastrous happened?
>>
Andy Moor gig where me and my friend were the only person. This was like 2 years ago as well, so anywhere else, Andy Moor would have packed out the fucking club and had a line out the front stretching halfway down the street.

I've played a few disasterous gigs due to gear malfunction most of the time, one of the worst though was when I took MDMA before the gig, then on stage was so into the fucking music I was playing the best I had ever played in my life, but I started getting really fucking hot and for some reason no one had fucking water, eventually got water, started drinking but didn't realize the water that was handed too me was being used as an ashtray and for ciggy butts so I then vomited on stage then almost passed out from dehydration and overheating. I was like 90% sure I was going to die, but was pretty calm with the whole idea because y'know MDMA rolling.

both times I've seen Wavves the crowd has been some of the most unbearable human beings of all time
>>
Cold Cave, it was just boring as hell despite the singer trying pretty hard to make it bearable. I could have went to see a small local act which apparently was really good instead of it, but no, I decided to go to Cold Cave's snoozefest. I even really liked their recorded music, but I haven't been able to listen to it after that "show".

Another major disappointment was Electric Wizard because the band feels so damn lazy nowadays. They have had the same set with very small changes for like five years now. There was also an annoying kid next to me who shouted stuff like "KILL ME! KILL ME!" all the time until someone told him so shut up. That show was the final nail in the coffin of my interest towards the band.

There was this 7 foot tall dude standing behind me at a Smashing Pumpkins concert who smelled and acted like he had about 3 beers (small venue too, so the fucker was right on top of me). He kept screaming about stupid shit for the entire first half of the show, one of said things he did was try reciting the Gettysburg Address for some fucking reason. He started off with "Four score and seven BEERS ago!" as loudly as he fucking could, then slurred the rest for a couple of sentences before giving up. It didn't help that Billy's microphone wasn't working properly, either. I don't know what the fuck was wrong with it but it was so low that the entire concert was basically Smashing Pumpkins instrumentals. About halfway through the show, a fucking fight broke out smack dab in the middle of the crowd. Thankfully, that 7 foot tall dude was one of the people involved in said fight; he got tossed out by the cops.

The opening band sucked, too. They're called Bad City. I checked their studio stuff when I got home and it was alright, but if that concert's like every other pne they've done, then they're laughably bad live (doesn't help they were the opening act for the KISS Cruise, either; a band that doesn't like hiring acts that are better than them to open for their shows).

It was awful.

Massive attack just because the crowd were a bunch of pretentious hipsters who didn't even dance to a single song, just stood their gazing at their shoes. It was obvious most didn't really know Massive attack's music, but were there for cred. I felt so bad for the band.

Tiesto last 2 times I saw him, fucking dogshit, didn't even play Trance and people were just walking out of the venue left right and center. (at the same time, the first Tiesto gig I saw in the mid 00s was honestly the most fucking insane thing I've been at in my life, they had fucking 3D laser holograms ffs)

Any rave basically during 2011-2013, just non-stop Brostep, no techno, no trance, no jungle, just Brostep.

Tool are shit live but everyone knows that.

Linkin Park gig I was dragged along too was weird in that me and my friend were like the only people there over 13. I got a free ticket and the show was decent though.
>>
>>53016816
>me and my friend were like the only people there over 13
Laughed harder than I should've.
>>
When I saw Smith Street Band and Front Bottoms a girl was crowd surfing and then fell and landed on her head. She was carried away and I often lie awake at night and wonder is she is okay. It was horrifying.
>>
any Eugenics Council show
>>
>>53016812
>Tool is shit live
You're a fucking idiot, straight up.
I thought your post was interesting until I read that, now I'm not so sure I can trust the rest of your post.
>>
>>53016812
>smelled and acted like he had about 3 beers
but 3 beers don't even get you drunk
>>
>>53016607
I have seen Anathema and the power went out in one moment
Otherwise it was pretty good
>>
>>53017016
but he didn't even mention Tool
>>
>>53016607

Any local shows where the promoter throws faggy ass hardcore bands on the bill towards the end of the night.

hatemoshing is the most retarded shit ever, I want this pop punk/hardcore fad to die out so bad.
>>
>>53017016
>Tool
Uhhh...
>>
>>53017023
if you're a fucking bear sure

but yeah a guy that big would probably only be tipsy after 3
>>
>>53017023
>>53017071
Sorry I didn't take into account that a giant would need more than 3 to get wasted
>>
>>53017071
But i'm not a bear
i'm 180 cm / 85 kg which is like almost 6 ft 140 lb if i remember american units correctly, you can check them if you want and when i go drinking 12 beers is when i'm drunk
>>
>>53017130
Shit i meant to say 65 kilograms
but yeah basically i'm pretty lightweight and still 3 beers is nothing
Maybe it's because i'm from the nordic countries where people do drink pretty much, i don't know, it just sounds pretty crazy
>>
Played a gig with a defunct band that was a church benefit. Everyone forgot to invite everyone (including the church) and we opened for some band touring from across the country. Only person who showed up was my ex who still loved me at the time (and I was acting like a jerk towards)
>>
6 years ago I saw Hed PE at a festival. The singer was spouting socialist bullshit in between every song and was annoying the fuck out of everyone.
>>
Joanna Newsom at the the art noveau, Swedish Royal Dramatic Theatre.
She had to pause the entire show for 40 minutes to retune her harp with a big wrench. She calls for "Question time with the band" . No one in the audience know anyone in her band, and the awkwardness is dripping from the walls.
Made me miss the last train to my home town, so I had to walk around Stockholm until daybreak. Got robbed of my cell phone.

Glenn Branca was playing here once, Lydia Lunch was originally billed but she got replaced by Stephen O'Malley, who came on stage, said "hey, I'm gonna play a note for half an hour", and did exactly that. It was so pointless, the noise was mildly inconvenient but other than that the performance seemed pretty delusional as well. Like he just strummed a dissonant note every half a minute that was already completely saturated in feedback and didn't sound like anything in particular while parading as some metalhead. it was by far my least favourite gig.
After the performance some girl next to me turned around to her bf or whatever and told him how awesome she thought the music sounded, she said she closed her eyes and imagined that she was a superhero and was emitting the noise. heh.

At a Swans gig Gira beckoned everyone to get up on stage, then a speaker fell down and hit a guy, who fell unconscious and had to be carried off the stage.
>>
>>53017425
I'd like that o'malley show
>>
Smashing Pumpkins were boring as fuck, which is sad as I love Smashing Pumpkins.
>>
>>53017232
diversity is our strength
>>
>>53016959
I was at that gig, Front bottoms fucking killed it. I saw her afterwards, she looked fine.
>>
>>53017485
at least there wasn't a smelly bear reciting the gettysburg address directly behind you
>>
>>53017130
Americans drink generally way less than Europeans and seem to get drunk faster as well. I don't really know why, is it the drinking age of 21 or being drunk being generally less accepted or what, but Americans get drunk really fast.
>>
>>53017485
I've seen smashing pumpkins 4 times, once during their gish tour of Australia (guess my age haha). They were good back in during that tour. I saw them at splendour a couple of years ago, and on their Zeitgeist tour a couple of years before that with Queens of the Stone age. Both times, absolute shit.

Dont bother going see them this year during their tour. billy is done
>>
>>53017502
what are you referring to?
>>
Went to see this local metalcore band, bit of a converge ripoff but they are still good. They did a quick soundcheck and their bass amp literally blew up. They had to run the bass through a spare guitar amp and it sounded like ass.

One of the most fun nights I've had, but damn that's great. I have no idea why I was caring about a stranger, but it had a weird impact on me. Glad to hear she's alright though.
>>
>>53017513
Yeah it's probably this but damn, 3 beers is still pretty much nothing. Like yeah they get drunk faster but that fast, that's something
And i'm not trying to be some cool guy here because i can drink more alcohol, i'm don't even drink that much but that just amazes me
>>
>>53016607
>have you been to a gig where something disastrous happened?
I once went to a Pixies show where Best Coast was the opening act, and when they came out on stage, they played their music.
>>
>>53016778
>>Another major disappointment was Electric Wizard because the band feels so damn lazy nowadays. They have had the same set with very small changes for like five years now.

That sucks, I've always wanted to see them live.

Have you seen Sleep? If so, how were they?
>>
I fucked some girl behind a curtain at a NIN gig then spend the next month worrying I had gotten HIV from unsafe sex because I got the flu a few days later.
>>
>>53017677
o boy, did anybody get hurt?
>>
>>53017655
Well, I've had the same experience when drinking with Americans. After like four drinks they need to stop. I guess they're just not used to drinking, because even many Asian people I've met can drink better and they're really small.

>>53017679
I think that EW can still be lots of fun if you're seeing them for the first time and enjoy the music they've recently released. But I'm not going to see the band live anymore unless they make some big changes to the set and/or the general direction of their music.

I've seen Sleep, it's a good live band, but the set was REALLY long, like at least two hours. Keep that in mind of you plan to get high for the show (who doesn't?). And yeah, they played Dopesmoker.

Overall I think that doom metal is a risky live genre because the slowness can easily get very boring and tiring, especially if you're not new to the genre and the slow heaviness and generic blues riffs with tons of distortion alone aren't super thrilling anymore.
>>
>>53017650
dude, thats normal. I love crowd surfing, but I hate it because i know what is like underneath.
>>
>>53017556
>>53016812
>>
>>53017773
Yeah I agree. Like, I don't mind it, and it's great to see people enjoying themselves. But I'm a pretty scrawny dude and people flailing about are darn heavy, that I get scared they might fall. Still go back every show to do it again though so I can't dislike it that much.
>>
>>53017773
I love crowdsurfing because I'm tiny so I don't feel like a complete cock for doing it
