What are the godliest ambient works?
I know a lot of people hate this but I love it.

Gas - Pop
Klaus Schuzle - Moondawn
Colleen - The Weighing of the Heart
Tim Hecker - Haunt Me Haunt Me, Do It Again
Fennesz - Endless Summer
Oval - 94diskont
Lustmord - Heresy
Suzanne Ciani - Seven Waves
>>52962061
this is absolute classic. by far the best ambient thing eno ever did if you ask me. so simple, yet i could never get tired of listening to it.
>>52962036
Oneohtrix Point Never - A Pact Between Strangers
The Caretaker - an empty bliss beyond this world
The Residents - Eskimo
Jim O'Rourke - I'm happy, and I'm singing, and a 1,2,3,4
James Ferraro - Last American Hero
>>52962062
It's pleasant.
It's just that it is hack material too.
>>52962108
>The Residents - Eskimo
another fucking classic. lay on your back and listen to it in a dark room. it's a movie for your ears.
I never understood the praise Pop gets. Gas's other work is a lot more engaging.
Zauberberg > Koenigsforst >Pop > Gas
>>52962108
>The Caretaker - an empty bliss beyond this world
disgusting hack material

first time in /mu/ i wonder what everyone in this thread smells like, i bet you all smell v nice....
>>52962254
I disagree. It was a solid album of very minimal nature ambient, but stuff like Zauberberg was so claustrophobic and tense with the beats and droning classical stuff. Felt like more than a "standard" ambient album.

>hack material
Stop it.
>>52962411
Is there something wrong with what I said?
>>52962434
Well mainly that you're distilling down any criticism to buzzphrases that can be applied to literally any album ever. Try to have actual content in your posts next time. :^)
>>52962487
Those albums are low-effort works that are based around gimmicks.

you know how everyone has a certain scent that they can't smell? I have always wanted to smell mine.
What's your favorite ambient album buddy?
I think Rinne Kokyogaku by Geinoh Yamashirogumi is a really cool album
Here is a link if anyone wants to check it out

>you know how everyone has a certain scent that they can't smell?
OH FUCK IT'S NOT JUST ME
also hi curren$y
>>52962354
I smell like Axe spray. It gets made fun of (for good reason, the scents are middleschool-core), but I have many more women tell me how good I smell with Axe Apollo than when I used to wear decent cologne.
>>52962566
this is nice album :)
i've been really into Radio Amor by good ol' timmy hecker l8ly.
something about the piano phrases take me somewhere else. great for reading

omigosh, Zauberberg love on /mu/.
The first and last tracks are probably one of my favorite ambient tracks ever. It's so dark, chilling, and droney, but I think it's very cozy sounding.
This one >>52962288 is pretty good too. Only thing I've heard that really comes close to Zauberberg for me.
>>52962061
love Discreet Music but this'd probably have to be my favourite ambient Eno release.

Thanks anon for reminding me this album existed.
>>52962588
who?
>>52963655
some guy who likes that album
Robert Fripp's live ambient works are beautiful
>>52962036
More ambient techno but one of my favorites
>>52963696
oh hi
Someone please recommend me some more ambient like Chill Out by the KLF. I like all of the field recordings and how it made me feel like i was going places.
My godliest ambient albums are
>Tired Sounds Of Stars Of The Lid
>Substrata - Biospehere
>Chill Out - The KLF
>Pop and Zauberberg played back to back - Gas
>The Disintegration Loops - William Basinski
>Deep Frieze - Sleep Research Facility
>Haunt Me, Haunt Me, Do It Again - Tim Hecker
Rec me more cool ambient albums in general, I want to dive further into the genre and only have about 30 or so albums. Especially things that have a very poignant and specific feeling about them.
>>52963219
yeah I agree with you guys in that Zauberberg is by far the best Gas album because of it's absolutely claustrophobic and eerie atmosphere. It has always made me imagine walking into a club where super bass heavy techno music is playing but everyone is just staring at the wall like zombies.
>>52962566
Will check out, but what am I in for?
>>52963081
Good choice, I love steve roach's stuff
>>52963924
Give this drone album a shot. Reminds me of a mix between Tim Hecker and Biosphere
Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - The Garden of Forking Paths

I listened to it a few times while playing Dark Souls. It felt pretty appropriate, but even then it dragged on. I mean, it's beautifully hypnotic, but it goes on for over an hour. And I like how the incredibly gradual decay of the tape and resulting alteration of the sound in the recording helps to drive home the concept of the title, but still if I had released that, the duration would be cut in half at least.
>>52964105
thanks man, will listen to it.
>>52964189
Haha I listened to Dlp1.1 while playing Demon Souls and listened to Music For Airports a lot while playing Dark Souls, It's almost a ritual to have an ambient album that represents a Souls game for me.
>>52964130
9:39 is the best.
