nah, i disagree. I think that their music is impossible to compare to anything else. they are obviously taking a lot of inspirations from rave music, modern classical and in fact dubstep / trap.

If you ever got a chance to see Autechre live - do it whatever it takes. I saw them in Cracow last year (there are some bootlegs) and it was easily the best concert of my entire life.
Also, if you are into making electronic music, there is no way you don't even respect Autechre stuff.

yeah eclecticism is definitely one of the things that makes autechre so remarkable and unprecedented. rale has what's basically a brostep drop in it, and 90101-5l-l has some serious wobbles too. it's crazy how they take influence from even the most unpretentious, mundane styles of music. it's telling that they included a tech death song on one of their dj mixes, too

once you start getting into, like, max_msp or supercollider or one of the other "make sounds from the ground up with programming' things that are popular you can kind of see how a lot of the structures and techniques autechre use are made. you can start to break down some of their tracks like "oh, so they took this kind of sample and they did this thing to it or they chopped it in this way and this is what they're changing as the track goes on" and it makes a lot more sense than the idea that someone did it all in, like, pro tools or fruity loops or something (and anyone who likes autechre and knows anything about programming should definitely try learning that at least a little bit)

but once you know that it's even more mindblowing to think that they're good enough at what they do to just casually fire off all these ideas and manipulate them so well. it's so fucking hard

yeah, they translate such complicated soundscapes straight from their head into a DAW, it's impressive. and their beat programming is just unreal, even with generative elements it's mindboggling to think of some of the syncopations they use. fucking augmatic disport...

Autechre is my favorite as well, I literally own all their albums and eps on cd. Well, with the exception of lp5, which is out of print ;_;
Any recommendations of what artists in the idm game are worth checking out? I already own all the aphex twin albums as well and want to get more into squarepusher but most of his best albums are currently sold out on amazon. tldr who is good in the idm game that I should check out?
