These four tracks are far too interesting and dense to be considered filler in my opinion.
I think to a lesser extent, the same principle applies to this >>52693497
>>52694415
I want to agree, but I wonder about Lover's Rock. I don't mind it when I listen to the album but I would never listen to that song by itself.
Ah, what the hell. I'll second.
>>52694380
The Fragile has mediocre and awkward tracks, but The Frail is not one of them. It's beautiful and makes the perfect transition between The Day the World Went Away and The Wretched.

But the concept of filler doesn't really apply to ambient or drone albums, frankly. Or very rarely. Unless you want to be a smartass and say that all ambient is filler.
>>52694621
...These are the tracks you consider "filler" on Mellon Collie? I don't understand your taste. The only one I agree on is We Only Come Out at Night; I could also do without Lily and Cupid de Locke, but that's it. (That would still leave a double album worth of great music.)
>>52694564
drukQs should have been one disc, it makes for an exhausting, ultimately boring listen in its entirety. I'd skip the second disc entirely if not for Meltphace 6.

I love Trout Mask Replica as much as the next guy, but I wouldn't go as far as to say there is not a single ounce of chaff in those 28 tracks. I'll probably never understand it fully or be able to appreciate all that went into it and all that Beefheart was trying to say.
>>52694757
But that's one of the best tracks on the album, you could've at least chosen one of the spoken word tracks as filler.

I think these are the only correct answers so far...
Every other album may be very good quality, but they all definitely have a track here and there that could be easily taken out without really hindering the alvum..
With a lot of these the whole is worth more than the sum of its parts, so I'm not saying that some of these are bad, Have One On Me for instance is fucking excellent, but the three I mentioned are the only ones that really need every single second of music in them.

>>52693375
the classic there is filler in a double album see those things only work media like television and film to pad and space out certain moments in the plot. It makes 0 sense for an artist to intentionally put filler as it probably cost more money to produce those filler tracks. The perception of there being filler is solely from the listener who can't be arsed to sit 2 hours straight and sees some songs superior and inferior.
>>52697588

It's because most of neo-/mu/ has shit taste and thinks that this album is some sort of meme. Not like it matters since this album is an acquired taste. >>52698961
There have been numerous accounts artists recording a song because they didn't have enough material to fill an album hence the term "filler." A famous example is stairway to heaven. Contrary to everyone in this thread filler doesn't mean a song you don't like.
>>52699215
Hmm, fair enough but I just wouldn't see the point of putting it on a double album.
Since I understand that they want to get an LP of music and need some filler to meet that mark but for a double LP I would argue why even reach for that if you don't have enough solid material. I say this because if you're aiming for a double LP but need filler to meet that chances are you have a solid amount of material for an LP

Also I nominate Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding as the greatest opener of all time.
