ITT: Post your musical weaknesses.

>Drums that are unusually recorded, especially by Steve Albini
>A good string section, especially cellos
>Androgynous male vocals
>Angular, dissonant guitar playing
>funk/R&B elements in genres that aren't funk/R&B
>sampling in genres that aren't rap
>>
marimba
>>
>Jon Theodore drumming on anything
>subtle musical progression
>sudden changes from an intense, abrassive style to a soft, relaxing style
>>
Heavy-hitting drums
Odd meter
Noisy guitars
Free jazz influences
>>
>Lyrical dissonance (Sad sounding songs with happy lyrics or vice versa)
>Bass solos (Welcome to Paradise)
>Songs about divorce (Stay Together for the Kids) or anti-suicide (Adam's Song) because they hit close to home.

I dig this shit too

>shitty guitar players that are actually kind of good in a way(Gordon Gano for example)
>3/4, 6/8
>songs with odd time signatures that don't sound like they are in odd time signatures
>varying tempos, time signatures, and keys in one song
>>
>Analog synths
>Pedal hi-hat used at effective points
>Vocal harmonies
>Relatively clean electric guitar used in a soft, ambient style
>>
>>52351627
>Bass lines that follow a different chord progression from the guitar, so they stand out against each other

THIS

I blame the bassist of AC/DC and Kim Deal for making rock bass playing super simplistic.

Can either of you give an example of this?

posted this before, but..

>second last track is longest/heaviest/climax of album
>last track is short simple instrumental track that fades in and out

Baths - Obsidian and pic related are the only examples I can think of

Playing a different note than the rootnote does not equal a different chord progression.

Saxophones. I love saxophones.

Also, the kind of funny synth sound you hear at the beginning of "Me, Myself & I" by De La Soul.

Buildups. Long buildups. And tracks that are longer than 10-15 minutes.

so long season by fishmans pretty much?

horns used like how they're used in Against the Moon by Iceage and elements in an album that keep playing in the background like the guitar strum in the glow part 2

5/4 time signatures always get me excited. If it's done well that is, for instance I don't particularly like 5/4 by Gorillaz, it's a bit try-hard. But Shakey Graves has pretty much mastered it.

Also, clever songwriting, favorites being Joanna Newsom, Jeff Mangum and Listener.

Yessss, this. Does it have a name? I love it. I assume you mean the sound from sliding the left hand along the strings for a new grip.

I got quite a few.

>weird/cute/wacky vocals, that are also very emotional (Residents, Flaming Lips, Nick Cave, Snowing, NMH etc)
>backing vocals of any kind
>long repetition with subtle progression throughout
>simple chord progressions (even better then combined with the one up top
>lyrical dissonance (especially happy sounding songs that has sad vibes to it, like Lives of Angels)
>good screaming/singing variation (like Drive Like Jehu)
>opening track is the most accessible and formulaic track
>album ends like it begins
