Catching a lot of comparisons in my mind to explosions in the sky (one of my favorite bands) but in some ways; more polished. It is quite "drone-y" but it has enough intensity to keep my focus. I actually feel you music has more places to go to than explosions in the sky because of its more buoyant nature.
In short: I realy realy realy like these tracks.

Sure il do it
The Track really dose not fluctuate in intensity throughout which may be foreign to most fans of house (no drops=some people not wanting to dance to it) but that's just the way it goes. I personally enjoyed the tracks very much but if you are aiming to play your music in the club scene (I am going to assume you are) you may have to "do what everyone else is doing"
BUT
you could always market yourself as more of an experimental composser and less of a producer, throw some weird synths in and gain the respect of the patrican community :)

I'm really new to ambient but from what I've learned so far it seems like layering many tracks, as well as reverb +post-delay can give the music a spacious sound. I feel like the complexity of the layers should modulate like an arc, kind of like how the track builds up then suddenly drops back to just piano. Also, keeping it simple musically, as boring as it seems, tends to sound better. I try to avoid using anything other than I, IV, V, and vii chords (maybe a ii somewhere).

In the genre you're writing in, everything's a little too free-form and abstract to really have any guidelines to criticize by other than the atmosphere because the quality of ambiance is really subjective; atmosphere is kind of the meat-and-potatoes of what you're doing. You're doing it well. But like the other dude said, the only things you can really improve on or watch for outside of that are technical aspects like mixing and mastering, stuff like that.

In short though: never pay for that sort of stuff. Free internet stuff is enough.

A lot of ivy league colleges even have full video lectures for free on their websites (like open courseware for MIT). I believe Berkeley has free lecture videos on music stuff, especially good if you want to learn more about music theory, all for free.

Spend your money on non-digital stuff, like equipment. Mics, audio interfaces, instruments, headphones/monitors, sound proofing... things you can't get for free.

How do you guys get people to comment/critique your stuff? Are there better places than /mu/?

I do really enjoy the compliments of course, but I'd really like some actual critique of my work, especially my guitar work. I have no idea where to go to get it though.

To the extent where I've considered starting lessons (just like 1 though before quitting) or trying out for competitions/jazz band ensembles or whatever that I don't even necessarily plan on joining, just to try to get better feedback on where I stand (or "how good I am" currently) and what I should work on/where I should go from here.
