Who is the most important band of the 2010s and why is it Death Grips?

I don't really care about the Death Grips, but I hope for their continued success because I'm a big fan of Zach Hill.

When will we start to feel their influence?

I feel like Clipping was the result of those guys hearing DG and wanting to take the production to the extreme, while softening the vocals.

If we were to compare them to the influence of Can though, it took until the late 70s for their influence to be seen with Joy Division and PIL.

Fast forward to the new Run the Jewels album. Many say its sort of like a pop version of the Death Grips sound. I could easily see it. Aggressive lyrics coupled with death grips style beats. Funny thing is, Boots was the producer of that album. Run the Jewels 2 is on most album of the year lists even taking the top spot on Stereogums.

I honestly think their both their sound and antics are already being emulated in popular music.

If you've seen them, or seen footage, It feels inccccredibly new. No one currently has a DJ/keyboardist(sometimes), punk vocalist/rapper, and a live drummer of zach's caliber in a band together. I honestly couldn't classify it into a genre specifically.

If you've seen them, here's what ya got

Andy running the set through(mpk49) while resampling Ride and the song(korg), Zach (Full kit), Ride (sometimes they brought an actual guillotine)

Zach with a kick, floor tom,snare(off) tuned very low, premade ableton set with automated effects on Ride's vocals, more intense Ride +backing tracks.
>SXSW
Andy running the set(mpk49)+extra keyboard parts+manipulating zach's now digital drum signal, Zach(minimal kit+racktom) drumming over skype, crazy intense Ride +backing tracks.
>No Show
>FYF final show
Same as SXSW, except with Zach playing live with the minimal kit +2 cymbols(like in the handcuffs video), Ride. (altered setlist, including Hacker)

They do a harsh noise/drum solo opening every show, and sometimes a second more chill noise/drum section before The Fever.
They also did a few more traditional rap format sets in there with just Andy+Ride.

>TLDR Basically Zach plays hype-chop improvised drums, where he mirrors his chops with the lyrics to the rhythm of the vocal flow. Except Ride is sometimes just speaking, and other times downright yelling while Zach goes out on a limb with a long chop. All to the tune of industrial instrumentals and mixtape'ish backing beats.
I think this trio format would be an amazing place for hip-hop to go. Cuz really it's all about the beat and the lyrical flow.
