Cortex – Troupeau Bleu (1975)
--“ Its samples have shown up on releases by everyone from DJ Cam and MF Doom to Fat Joe and Rick Ross. Once you drop the needle on the record it's easy to see way. Smooth and funky straight out of the gate, Cortex waste no time in setting the mood. Deep grooves give way to mellow female vocals; upright bass leads the way for lyrical piano improvisations.” I hate jazz-funk but I fuck with this.

I have some stuff I could share but most of the stuff you can't find anywhere are ripped from CD's using iTunes (yea I'm a macfag and don't really know much about computer stuff).
Is m4a bad for sharing?

Ray Barretto- Indestructible (1973)

>salsa, Latin jazz
>Fania Records is pretty much the “Blue Note” of the salsa world and percussionist Ray Barretto was one of the best-known and most successful of the Fania All-Stars. This is one of his best recordings and all-around one of the best salsa recordings ever. Pure, danceable, fun salsa tunes.

The Herbie Nichols Trio (1956)

>piano trio, hard bop
>It wouldn’t be much exaggeration to say that Nichols is one of the most unique and original pianists after Monk in the 1950’s. This trio recording on Blue Note is a good example of his highly interesting sense of melody and composition, though it stays within a fairly bluesy, swinging context.

John Abercrombie- Cat ‘n’ Mouse (2002)

>modern creative, ECM jazz
>This was guitarist John Abercrombie’s first recording with this quartet, which he would continue to record with throughout the 00’s. The instrumentation features Mark Feldman on violin, along with drums and bass, creating a really interesting and unique sound.
r/ing Devendra Banhart - Oh me Oh my...

Christmas music pls. Something nice.

Larry Young- Lawrence of Newark (1973)

>fusion, free jazz, funk
>Organist Larry Young always showed a willingness to experiment and push the boundaries and this 1973 album was recorded at the height of the fusion craze and captures his very unique and free take on fusion.

Misha Tsiganov- Artistry of the Standard (2014)

>Russian-born pianist Misha Tsiganov recorded this album of extremely interesting takes on jazz standards earlier this year. If you think jazz standards are boring, give this a listen. Tsiganov has completely re-imagined these classics with new time signatures, reharmonizations, countermelodies, and new solo changes.

Paul Bley/NHOP (1973)

>free jazz/duet jazz
>Pianist Paul Bley teams with versatile bassist, NHOP for this duet album which features some of Bley’s most adventurous and experimental playing. In addition to acoustic piano, Bley also plays electric piano on several tracks, as well as plucking and strumming the strings of the acoustic piano.

Ted Curson- Tears for Dolphy (1964)

>Trumpeter Ted Curson recorded this album as an elegy for Eric Dolphy after his tragic death in 1964. The compositions are memorable and easy to follow, but the improvisations are often quite adventurous. The quartet follows the traditional “chordless” instrumentation of Ornette Coleman’s quartet.

radio.string.quartet.vienna- Posting Joe: Celebrating Weather Report Live (2013)

>string quartet, jazz fusion, ambient jazz
>RSQV is a string quartet that interprets jazz and popular music. This is a recording of a live performance they did of re-interpretations of some of the fusion group, Weather Report’s most popular music.

Lennie Tristano and Warne Marsh- Intuition (1956)

>cool jazz, bebop, avant-garde
>This is the classic album, made up of a number of studio sessions going back to 1949. Tristano and his band (including Warne Marsh, Lee Konitz, and Billy Bauer) and showcases Tristano’s unique blend of bebop improvisation with cool swing. The last two tracks are some of the first recorded examples of free improvisation with no chord changes in jazz.

Orrin Evans- Captain Black Big Band (2011)

>big band, post-bop
>Orrin Evans is one of the most unique and flexible pianists on the New York scene. This is a live recording of his big band, and both the arrangements of the group, and the loose, open solos capture the adventurous and energetic spirit of his music.

Aavikko - Novo Atlantis (2009)
>Aavikko is a Finnish synth music band, formed in Siilinjärvi in 1995. Their hallmarks include a campy, decidedly "East European" style and plastic-sounding synthesizer themes. The band themselves call their style "muysic" (a portmanteau of "mystic" and "music"); their motto is "We play - you dance!".

If anyone somehow has their earlier releases I’d very much appreciate any.

Elvin Jones- Puttin It Together (1968)

>post-bop, sax trio
>John Coltrane’s early 60’s rhythm section of bassist Jimmy Garrison and drummer Elvin Jones continued to team up long after their tenure with Coltrane ended. Here they work with saxophonist Joe Farrell (who tries his damndest to fill Coltrane’s shoes) for a very good sax trio record.

The Dynamic Sound Patterns of the Rod Levitt Orchestra (1963)

>hard bop, medium ensemble jazz
>Rod Levitt is a somewhat forgotten figure in jazz. This is a good example of his arranging and composition skills with a medium sized ensemble. His melodies and arrangements have a unique style about them and it leads to some interesting improvisation by the band.

Pierrick Pedron- Cheerleaders (2011)

>fusion, progressive rock, experimental
>Pedron is a French alto saxophonist who grew up listening to classic jazz, as well as classic progressive rock. This album mixes all of those influences, along with a tendency toward experimental electronics and free improvisation.

Chris Potter and the DR Big Band- Transatlantic (2011)

>big band, progressive jazz, fusion
>Chris Potter is usually known for his incredible playing more than his composing, but this album showcases his exciting and multi-layered, polyphonic compositions for large ensemble. The music is very much influenced by rock, but stays varied and gives Potter plenty of room to improvise over his creative music.

Dr. Lonnie Smith- The Art of Organizing (2009)

>organ jazz, soul jazz
>The good doctor leads a traditional organ trio (organ, guitar, drums) on this record and shows off his remarkable taste on the instrument. The music is mostly in the hard bop, soul jazz style, but what makes Smith stand out is his talent for utilizing the wide variety of sounds and dynamic contrasts the Hammond B-3 of which the Hammond B3 is capable.

Richard Davis- Epistrophy and Now’s the Time (1972)

>post-bop, hard bop
>Bassist Richard Davis is known mostly for his work on Blue Note, where his flexible style of playing fit in well with players like Andrew Hill and Eric Dolphy. Later in the 70’s he also recorded several albums as a leader on the Muse label. This record consists of two 20+ minute jams by the quintet over several bebop standards, that move well beyond the realm of bebop during the solos.
