It bugs me because I like the concept behind it (I think? maybe I misunderstood the whole thing) but I heard some stuff and it was pretty lame even by J-pop standards.

I can't appreciate samples being used in an uncreative way or the obvious commercialism ("This song has a famous chorus, I'll just copy and paste that into my song so I will be famous!")
I can't appreciate the low brow/cliche themes ("bitches and hoes", "muh money", "muh dick", "muh nigga", "cracka keep me down", "rapper x isn't as good as me")
I can't appreciate the simple, underdeveloped musical ideas or the lack of change in structure/dynamics/color etc. (2 bar melody in 4/4, verse/chorus, repeat ad infinitum, no change!)

What's your musical background? Personally I think understanding hardcore punk/beatdown and death metal would be useful if you're looking to get into grind. I also was interested in the culture behind the development of punk in general and it helped me understand why someone would make such aggressive music.

Napalm Death is always a good place to start, though maybe a more obvious choice since they're often credited with being one of the first true grindcore bands. Here it's easiest to see how hardcore elements and death metal elements are fuzed together, though again it helps to have a background in heavy music already.

For me, "Magrudergrind," by Magrudergrind, was the first entire grindcore album I listened to. Pig Destroyer and Discordance axis are also personal favorite artists.

I hope this helps, I don't know if any of that will actually but it's how I got somewhat into the genre.

>Post-punk is a rock music genre that paralleled and emerged from the initial punk rock explosion of the late 1970s. The genre is an artsier and more experimental form of punk.[2] Post-punk laid the groundwork for alternative rock by broadening the range of punk and underground music, incorporating elements of krautrock (particularly the use of synthesizers and extensive repetition), dub music, American funk and studio experimentation into the genre.[citation needed] It was the focus of the 1980s alternative music/independent scene, and led to the development of genres such as gothic rock and industrial music.

I'm actually finding that I don't really like much trip hop either. My favorites are Archive and Juzhin though.

something like this?

Just play and beat Brutal Legend and i'm sure you'll get it eventually.
>>
>>51822216
That's great, I like the beat. Maybe something a little "darker"?
>>
>>51821868
Just early Archive or more recent because I think it's fair to say they've gotten pretty far from their Trip-hop routes.
>>
>>51822310
I like most of their stuff but if only their early stuff is considered trip hop then that's fine.
>>
>>51822082
I don't know and Jazzoer, but certaintly take a listen to Londinium by Archive, it's nothing like what they became later on, but it's still really, really good.

If anyone has it please post

I actually forgot I saved a bunch of them. I have three noise rock charts. They all overlap to some extent though.

I think stuff like Lights and You All Look the Same to Me have transcend beyond what Trip-hop could bring you. Holy shit Lights though, if you haven't heard anything else of theirs that's trippy don't jump straight into it but that's a track that just builds and builds onto itself like x=1 on a calculator until it reaches a plateau and the lyrics come in, and then it's all downhill, with maybe one time the song slows you down. Not a song i'd recommend on drugs.

Indie rock. I always like the instrumentation but find the vocals to be insufferable eg. Sufjan Stevens and The Microphones

How can you not like Sufjan's voice? Indie rock is such a broad genre though that I'm sure you can find something with all kinds of different vocal styles. I wouldn't even know where to begin recommending stuff though.
