it's a pity there aren't more dream pop albums that don't try to adhere to what dream pop albums typically sound like. hit to death in the future head is a dreampop album that sounds nothing like its contemporaries (or really even anything that came after), utilizing a very wide sonic palette from shoegaze guitars to an honest-to-god orchestra to create an immersive, dreamlike atmosphere draped around very memorable songwriting. it's an underrated example of the genre and arguably the flaming lips' best album
