Dream Pop December 2014
Dubs decides last 3 slots or changes one of the albums
lol the only 'month' that's gonna work is nbbmn. dream pop is too typical with not enough subgenres. literally every band sounds the same, doesn't matter when it was made or where they're from
pet grief or Clinging to a scheme by The Radio Dept. theyre goat Dream pop
Dream Pop is maybe the most vapid and shallow musical genre in existence. You are all a bunch of pretentious clueless faggots and i hope all of you die an horrible painful death.
Btw what do you think about Cocteau Twins
This is actually dream pop. Add in Mazzy Star, This Scarlet Train, Galaxie 500, Love Spirals Downwards, etc. Build off these rec's. Fuck out of here with Smith Westerns and the XX.
Do you faggots think NBBMN is all about the trve kvlt shit? They have A LOT of diversity in those threads, and lots of blackened genres added to the mix. Stop being self-entitled assholes and let the anon do a good chart with a little bit for everyone so any potential anons don't feel intimidated and this shit actually lasts more than a few days.
What's the deal with indie pop? If it has shoegaze elements let it be. Also, this guy >>51786345 is just being a contrarian asshole. Radio Dept. are pure dream pop, almost shoegaze sometimes.
>/mu/ makes a thread spamming memes like 12 years old kids
>200+ replies "AYY LMAO MEME OF THE YEAR
>/mu/ tries to make a thread about listening to one genre of music for a month
>samefagging, arguing over nothing
>/mu/ makes a thread spamming indie pop like 12 year old kids
>90+ replies "AYY THIS ISN'T DREAM POP"
>someone on /mu/ tries to post a clever greentext in this thread
>misses the point
it's a pity there aren't more dream pop albums that don't try to adhere to what dream pop albums typically sound like. hit to death in the future head is a dreampop album that sounds nothing like its contemporaries (or really even anything that came after), utilizing a very wide sonic palette from shoegaze guitars to an honest-to-god orchestra to create an immersive, dreamlike atmosphere draped around very memorable songwriting. it's an underrated example of the genre and arguably the flaming lips' best album
Everyone should try this. Shoegazing Emo/Punk from Sweden, very unique sound. Sore Eyelids - s/t EP
Thanks asshole. You put zero effort into the calendar because these threads are about you viralling your shitty album more than a legitimate interest in Dream Pop November. People complain every thread but even changing the list is to much for you to do when you don't give a shit.
Can someone else start making these threads without that bullshit Polysemy op image? Making the calendar will only take five minutes or so of just picking random albums from RYM. Then we can fucking start this thing instead of bickering over the same Urban Outfitters playlist over and over again
The list is undeniably shit and it's clear OP isn't actually interested in the month beyond it being an asset to his own release.
Here are some albums I like and most of them are older than 5 years old
Cocteau Twins - Treasure (1984)
Slowdive - Pygmalion (1995)
Beach House - Teen Dream (2010)
Fishmans - Long Season (1996)
Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See (1993)
Spiritualized - Lazer Guided Melodies (1992)
Broadcast - HaHa Sound (2003)
Seefeel - Quique (1993)
Lush - Split (1994)
Pale Saints - The Comforts of Madness (1990)
Mojave 3 - Ask Me Tomorrow (1995)
Underground Lovers - Dream It Down (1994)
Stereolab - Peng! (1992)
Pram - Sargasso Sea (1995)
Asobi Seksu - Citrus (2006)
Love Spirals Downwards - Ardor (1994)
Glad I'm not the only one who sees the issue. Here are my suggestions >>51792330 I think we should outright exclude everything from the past 5 years or so though. We don't need people who haven't bothered listening to the roots suggesting Warpaint or the XX. Nothing wrong with those bands but there are more important and influential albums. I really like the Beach House album I listed but feel free to not include it
hey listen to this or else
i did nothing but dream pop december last year so i figured i'd whip this up, 31 of the albums that really stuck with me from that time
this is the pastebin from last year as well, i'm not sure how many of these are still working but here it is regardless
Hell yeah they were definitely dream pop, and arguably one of the first shoegaze bands.
Someone on /mu/ that likes HIT? Well that's new, I like you anon, such an underrated album.
How is not DIIV dream pop you pretentious cunt?
No, they're emogaze.
yeah, here you go
it's probably my favorite dream pop album ever. Elizabeth Fraser 's vocals are perfect on it
Hey! It's been a year, what you up to?
I'd say new Pure X and Sunny Day In Glasgow are pretty good new releases. Manon Meurt self-titled is probably the best this year (as far as shoegaze / dream pop goes)
my niggas who likes kitchens of distinction?
Alright, this is a good place to start, cheers!
I really have not been up to a whole lot since last year, it's just another length of time gone by. How about yourself? Wasn't too sure if i'd be seeing any familiar names this year (Hell, i'm not sure i'd remember any names until I saw them, I was never too frequent on the threads).
Picked Manon Meurt up in april, I like to think i've been saving it until NBDPD, but in reality I just havn't been in a shoegaze/dream pop mood until I felt christmassy.
Strange Free World is my jam, anything else of theirs up to par?
Has been mentioned twice in the thread already
I have been checking some genres but haven't touched any shoegaze record until december either. It really is a christmas mood genre, isn't it?
Yeah I thought I wasn't going to see any familiar names either, but glad you're here at least.
I'm planning on listening to shoegaze, idk about you guys but I have a hard time telling them apart sometimes
also, I fail to see what post-rock has in common with either of the first two
It was noise pop. We didn't have any noise or noise rock artists in.
I guess you're fine with Gish but their other stuff isn't really shoegaze as far as I'm concerned
this should be essential
sea oleena - shallow
Just a basic collection of some accessible yet good albums I feel any NBDPD collection should include.
I'd switch I Can Hear the Heart Beating for And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out. It's more dream poppy.
And I'd remove Against Perfection, Teen Dream and In the Presence of Nothing.
Also add these:
Galaxie 500 - On Fire
Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
