Alright, /mu/ - Music
I am an an assassin for a secret agency that controls and manipulates the US culture output.
The agency has decided that the 4 targets in the attached picture are musical geniuses and have a high probability of releasing a groundbreaking work of art at the same time in the near future that will be of great importance to USA culture and will be studied at universities and regarded as a part of the western canon.
Usually, there aren't more than 2 artistic geniuses with a chance of creating a great work at the same time, and our agency usually disposes of one to have better control over the arts.
Now i have to dispose of 3 people, leaving only one musical genius. You choose which one to keep.
(the agency gave me orders to post on this site, i will not reveal additional details about the operation)
The names of the targets are as follows, from left to right:
Ariel Pink, John Maus, Daniel Lopatin and James Ferraro
Thank you for your cooperation.
The survivor will be decided primarily by your votes and the agency. The one with most votes gets to live. We will be collecting votes until this thread gets archived.
If you were really an assassin you wouldn't be making simple mistakes like that. If you can't even post properly, who knows if you can assassinate properly! We're gonna end up with a dead Lopatin thanks to you you fake fuck.
311 - Down, thread saged. Not even funny.
ferraro's kitsch is pretty pointed and artful tho, unlike pink's (and maus' but i like him a lot as a person so i tend to excuse him for that)
i already voted lopatin tho and i agree
You can be assured i will carry out the operation without fault. If i make a mistake, the agency has the option of euthanizing me.
These both count as votes for lopatin
Save Maus because his music is the most fun and I like him the most.
Lopatin makes good music but hes not as revolutionary as people make him out to be . He like so many others will be defined as an example of how much influence Boards of canada had on electronic music.
James Ferraro man that guy has made some good stuff but he is a talentless hack.
Ariel Pink is great obviously but with John Maus around it will be less sad for him to be gone
Totally this. Lopatin is overrated as fuck. Ferraro is just a talentless arthropod. Pink is pretty good, but not as good as Maus or Lopatin. But, Muas, that guy's a genius. He reminds me by Kirt Coobain.
Save Muas, go easy on Lopatin, and make it quick for Pink. Ferraro, however, make him suffer.
Fuck, that's hard. Those are exactly my 4 favorite artists.
They're all amazing, but I feel like Ariel & John are too set in their own genre and style to put out something radical, while Ferraro is super hit or miss. If he was off this hip-hop thing he's been on with his past few releases I'd probably say Ferraro, but ultimately I feel like Lopatin shows the most promise with his past few LPs.
So, save Lopatin. But instead of assassinating the rest just fake their deaths and deport them to Argentina or something
Ferraro is legitimately a hack, Lopatin is legitimately talented, Maus and Pink are on the same level imo, they're good at reappropriating sounds of the past without irony, but not that original
so save Lopatin, and put priority on killy Ferraro
this is so fucking stupid. you read like a schoolboys imagination. your post has no tact, it is blatant but i'll play along.
how often do you need to dispose of a musical genius? if there are usually 2 at one time then how long is there 1 for? wouldn't it be safer and more productive to convince them to sell out using your wily government tricks to control their individual output? did someone lose their job for not killing someone until 2 additional musical geniuses popped up?
Look, guys, I know I'll get a lot of hate for this but fuck it I'm dead from the inside anyway.
Save Maus. He's a young man with a bright future and his music is absolutely outta this world. His picture, 20/10. He gives you an eerie feeling of relatedness. His music has a slight vaporwave feel to it, alongside a touch of Left-Winged Yoghurt Inn's Outside the Ship Over the Sky and some of Life Touch's Pre-Military, as well as a bit of North's White Straight Fantasy and The Black Dot's Mice. The dude is a genius. He encompasses every big thing into one, single shit and yet comes up with an original, amazing and nostalgic music that makes you wanna cry. And his lyrics, they are simply gold. If there will ever be a genre called Experimental Lyricism, he will be considered the pioneer of it.
But, to be fair, I don't see the appeal of Lopatin. Yeah, he's a great artist and all. His fanbase isn't half bad and his picture isn't neither. He's a good and funny guy, but I don't see the appeal in his music. All I see is some try hard material ripped off some popular artists with a rare bit of good music in between. He's good, but I still don't think he deserves it.
As for Pink, she's out. I hate her music. She's just all that's wrong with the music community. Popular, dumb, and pretty looking. All that one needs for a disaster.
As for Ferraro, no. Just, no. He may've been relevant, but he no longer is any more. All I see is an aging old man trying to rap into a mic with some beats made by a guy on crystal meth. He is no longer great any more; he's a shadow of his former self.
>I loved R+7
>saw lopatin live at krems donaufestival this year
>talentless hack, improvised parts or older material (?) were nothing like replica/r+7, had no rhythm, no intriguing "melody", nothing
srsly, why do people worship him
> As for Pink, she's out. I hate her music. She's just all that's wrong with the music community. Popular, dumb, and pretty looking. All that one needs for a disaster.
epic simply epic
Lopatin. There's really no contest. He basically is the main reason why vaporwave exists, and it's my favorite genre.
Ferraro is good yeah, but I can live without him.
If Pink dies he'll be worshiped more I can assume.
I never liked Maus I'm sorry
>they don't create art in the genre of art music
They don't at present
We are talking about the future.
Please, do not argue with me, the agency knows very well what it is doing and doesn't need your feedback.
As if any of the artists in OP are going to become art music composers. You seem not to be aware of the existence of the many promising young composers of contemporary art music, but that isn't surprising as contemporary art music isn't popular so you wouldn't be able to meme them on /mu/ and expect more than 2 people to respond.
I don't think that and I've already referred to the popular canon, but the western canon in music is of course dedicated to western art music.
Well, it seems as though the thread has lost focus. The agency gave me the order to stop the poll and continue my job with the information i have gathered here.
the final results are:
This means that Pink, Maus and Ferraro will become "missing persons" in the next 3 years.
Lopatin is expected to create his great work of art in the next 10 years.
Thank you for your cooperation, your posts will have an indirect effect on music from USA.
