not home currently but imagine a ping pong table, on it a Roland W30, with a Roland Sh201 above it, a Boss channel mixer to the right, a Korg Volca Beats and Bass to the lower right, a 5U rack with an 8x8 JLC MSB+ rev2 midi patchbay, an Alesis Datadisk, my Alesis Midiverb III, an Alesis S4 plus, and a 3630 for some punch. on top of the rack is a Yamaha FB01 4op, several manuals and my master notebook, mostly consisting of wiring diagrams. behind everything is my shitty turntable/ tape deck combo.

on the floor is a tangled mess of cables, a broken Casio cz1000, a mk1 DX7 (newest acquisition, only $100), my trusty old MMT8, an Akai S20, a circuit bent Casio SK1, an abandonded LSDJ setup, my guitar (80s korean strat rip off), my trash-find Roland JC55 amp, and stacks and stacks of floppies

everything is garbage, but its all so perfect

Yes and no. I used to do film sound design and composing gigs for monies but now my musicianship, post production, and writing is mostly just a hobby. I make money working as an audio engineer/consultant but I don't do that at home.

Maybe for some, but i played drums/guitar for about 10 years before even thinking about making music with computers. it's actually really useful for composition and learning. you're thinking of like club/weekend djs and stuff. When you look at it from a musicians perspective, writing on computers is truly the meta of composing and trying new things.
