Let's have a thread for albums that sound completely unlike anything else you've ever heard. I'm hoping that if we can find enough, we can make a chart of them.
Let's try to avoid unusual albums that are somewhat comparable to others, until we run out of really unique ones first.

PIVIXKI - Gravissima

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgjJYyPMJug
Here's one that immediately comes to mind.
There are other artists that use retro-futuristic sounds, but none sound like OPN.
Sufjan Stevens - Age Of Adz
Haven't found anything else that blends like 50 genres into one style.
>>51412578
A lot of prog blends weird stuff together. The Dear Hunter makes simpler, less singer-songwritery prog that you might like.
>tfw transcendental black metal didn't catch on
the style had a ton of potential, too ;_;
There are still no other prog/hip-hop/post-rock bands as good as Subtle.
Please prove me wrong guys.
>>51412689
>transcendental black metal
Describes Sunbather pretty well. Both are equally bad as well.
>>51412759
>Describes Sunbather pretty well
then how come it doesn't sound anything like it
>>51412612
Yeah I like the Dear Hunter, but I was more thinking of Sufjan's incorporation of bleeps and stuff into his normal genre-blending music.
>>51412689
Isn't this mostly black metal mixed with math rock though? Still good.
>>51412689
new Liturgy in 2015 hype train
>>51412759
They really dont have many similarities at all other than pissing off nerds
>>51412785
It doesn't sound anything like it because your choice of words is pretty generic & fits both, so you oughta buy a dictionary and learn some new words.
Never found anything that sounds quite like this.
Before clicking this link, stop, and ask yourself: "Am I ready to hear the sound of the future?"

Let's see if you are brave enough.
>>51412921
elegi - sistereis
>>51412512
Anyone got a link? I've been looking for it for awhile
>>51412979
obviously not looking hard enough. ready the sticky before posting.
Links?

Nobuko Hori – xtoyourmilkyhair

Dean Blunt's releases also sound unique to me.
And I'd say Coil's later albums, but they do sound similar to each other if nothing else.
>>51412979
Archive, unless they're dead.
>>51412553
Really? I love OPN but this album sounds reasonably interchangeable with, say, Boards of Canada or some of Hype Williams' catalog to me.
really aint nothin like it
>>51412842
>
>>51412877
RTFM dude
>>51412943
closest to their sound on this would be This Heat i guess but i'm not completely sure
Supposedly it was going to be released as a Kayo Dot album at one point.
Sounds like everything and nothing.
>>51413013
You got me. I'm just lazy and sleep deprived and wanted someone to get a link for me

Cromagnon - Orgasm
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36Srmk7JYlI
>>51413098
why don't you go ahead post examples of albums like these then? i'm sure the anons would appreciate it
>>51413120
hey i love this album. no one else really likes them.
>>51413031
Cyclobe is pretty similar to later Coil, but mostly by virtue of being ex-Coil collaborators.
>>51413162
Who is this ?
>>51413197
Jam City - Classical Curves
>>51413154
why are there so many albums of different bands with those green stripes on the cover and the circle with the name?
>>51413189
It kind of blew my mind the first time I heard it. The first time I heard Behind the Mirrors my jaw was on the floor for the whole song. I've never really heard anything that captures a feeling of emptiness quite like that album.
Lifeforms is shit compared to this masterpiece.
>>51413220
same label.
>>51413237
WE HAVE
EXPLOSIVE
>>51413162
aside from most of the other night slugs releases?
then again i might be wrong since im not too into it
>>51413220
it's a certain series of the same label (Tzadik)
>>51413189
What are you talking about? Everybody who's into post-punk likes the Astros. How's that album compared to pic related
>>51413098
le contrarian face
>>51413230
absolutely felt the same way. first time i heard i'm like yeah this is p good nice lyrics etc. then behind the mirrors comes on and bwahhh my brain. i can't think of anything like that track.
>>51413283
behind the mirrors is my favorite but protest song might be goat track.
>>51412943
My friend's cat barfed because of the title track of this album. Nobody is truly brave enough.
>>51413341
i mean in defense of compassion oops
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbHJC3VYmvg
Good stuff too, not weird for the sake of weird, unlike some of the stuff ITT
>>51413371
this is just some heavy metal band, dude.
>>51413429
The musical composition and blend of traditional experimental metal with esoteric Hungarian music is unlike anything I've ever heard.
>>51412723
>tfw /mu/ will never prove me wrong
>>51413455
i didn't even listen to it but listen to aluk todolo
>>51413273
Most of the night slugs stuff is pretty similar, but Classical Curves is the only full-length album.
>>51413341
Thanks, downloading it from slsk now
>>51413468
>>51412943
/mu/ wasn't as brave as I thought
>>51413074
Yeah, I can also see the This Heat comparison.
>>51413154
<3
>>51413355
Poor cat :/
Too bad his 2014 album sort of sucked.
>>51413468
You're not wrong, Eyedea & Abilities maybe, idk
>>51413482
hope you like it bub
>>51413533
As much as I love E&A, they're not really like Subtle.
Other anticon hip-hop bands like Young Fathers, Why?, or The Skyrider Band come a bit closer, but Subtle/13 & God stands alone.
>>51413175
Of course, there are no carbon copies these albums but there's stuff out there that's similar.
A lot of contemprorary rap acts sound similar to Danny (or vice versa). Ranging from clipping, Ab, Shabazz, or at times reminding me of Bronson.
Lithurgy is trickier but I'd say stuff like Dope Body sounds similar to it, at least instrumentally. Difference being, one's mixed with BM, the other with Punk.
And OPN's just a slew of ambient plus vaporwave (well, because it's opn after all).
I'm not saying any of these albums are bad. Just we all know about these albums, wanted to see more out there stuff.
undeniably this
>>51413371
this just sounds like run-of-the-mill metal.
>>51413624
>Lithurgy
also you basically just said they don't sound like anything else lol
Also Replica isn't vaporwave. R+7 sounds more like vaporwave, and it's still not at all. They both get grouped into the "scene" because he released eccojams before both of them (same reason Returnal gets grouped in). He didn't even know what vaporwave is according to his reddit ama

>He didn't even know what vaporwave is according to his reddit ama
they always say that
>>51413742
shut the fuck up
>>51412597
have this on vinyl
its pretty "unique"
>>51413771
cry more
>tfw you will never listen to another album that is perfect in every way
>>51413742
>>51413802
you're retarded and obviously jumping on judgements before you actuallly listen to the music
or in other words, A CONTRARIAN. dipshit
>>51413890
pretty distinct Wire, Gang of Four, and Wipers influences on this
>>51413819
too sophisticated for /mu/
>>51413819
naw
>>51413905
my nigga
link plox
>>51412723
This is weird shit. Heavy ass bass riffing with drumming that sounds like free jazz meets post death metal, at times at grindcore speed with mad piano playing that appears to be distorted like a theremin at some points, and the odd manic yell here and there. Too bad they moved on to doing fairly basic industrial rock after this.
>>51413819
>straight ahead jazz
>unique
>>51413952
I really liked their latest album. It was a lot more dancy.
>>51413819
>my face every time I hear the "thank you god" riff in Psalm
>>51413294
This is an anonymous imageboard and you still manage to make yourself look like a fucking moron
>>51413819
McCoy Tyner's solo on Resolution...
>>51413642
You might want to check out the rest of their discography buddy :^)
>>51412689
>Shitty black metal for hipsters
There's an entire genre that sounds exactly like this album
>>51414189
>implying
>>51413998
that's an ignorant statement anon
>>51414044
Cool, I never saw this album getting any love on /mu/. Chris Dave is the man
This album and Rudimentary Peni's Cacophony are the 2 that spring to mind, they are 2 of the 4 albums I consider 10/10s
>>51414253
except most "hipster" bm is post-rock infused blackgays and has nothing in common with that album
>>51412689
good troll, would be 7/10 but 8/10 'cause i'm responding and actually kinda mad lol
>>51414338
that album is just half-baked black metal song ideas that go nowhere + gratingly bright production
it does nothing new or interesting, it's just bad songwriting applied to black metal
>>51413098
I like the albums you quoted but I agree, they are in no way unique
>>51413175
>>51413294
being good does not automatically make an album unique
pic related, an actually unique album. not just because I like it, because there is no other like it.
>>51414404
ya, stupid plebs
post black gayz fedoracore =/= transcendental wankery bullshit hipstercore
>>51412689
also krallice does that a million times better only without the supercilious bullshit
>>51413973
fuck yeah, i love this ep so much. too bad lp was nothing like it.
>>51414576
krallice has a similar guitar style but they tend to drag a little too much for my liking. still pretty good.
the closest i've come to that album in terms of feeling would have to be De-Loused, but even that's rather far-fetched
