Vaporwave sub-genres. what do you consider to be the classifications?

I would seperate it into eccojams, segahaze, mallsoft, future funk, and vapornoise.

thoughts? also, vaporwave general
>>
eccojams
vektroid
hypnagogic pop
future funk
vaportrap

>>
What's with /mu/'s obsession with genre boundaries? Why does it matter?
>>
Vaporwave and Eccojams are the same thing

Vaporwave, mallsoft and future funk are the only ones we need

Hypnagogic, faux-utopian and vaportrap should all fall under vaporwave rather than being separate
>>
Eccojams
Mallsoft
Future Funk/Broporwave
Post-internet
Midijams
Transmissions/Vapornoise
>>51220147
Hypnagogic pop isn't part of vaporwave.
>>
>>51220252
how do you account for vaporwave that is excessively noisy though. I think its distinct enough to be considered its own style
>>
>>51220303
example?
>>
>>51220211
vaporwave has become aan umbrella term at this point, i feel like it is necessary. plus its fun

better come up with a bunch of nanogenres and argue about which is better!
>>
>>51220479
I don't think most people take it that seriously except for those spergs making charts and arguing all the time. It's basically just a way to pass the vaportime since vaporwave has been pretty lame this year.
>>

>>51220479
im serious. vaporwave is a lot more widespread now than just vektroid and chuck person, there are albums coming out every day
>>
>>51220287
>Hypnagogic pop isn't part of vaporwave.
I see this argument all the time on /mu and people get flamed. Yet vaporwave artists tag themselves as hypnagogic like luxury elite, Disconscious waterfront dining, コンシャスTHOUGHTS, 猫 シ Corp., Phoenix #2772,ライフMIDI, Venture X, BBRAINZ etc. wtf is the answer then. I know about Ferraro and others are labeled hypnagogic, but it looks like it applies to certain kinds of vaporwave now?

Mallsoft and Utopian Virtual are probably my favorite. I don't get much into the whole musical joke aspect, as I sincerely enjoy the corporate dream.

Daily reminder that Death Grips put their dick on an album cover just as a gimmick to make them different

And that Buckethead's only claim to fame is wearing a chicken bucket on stage

And Madvillain ripped off Marvel Comics just to get attention

I dig the futuristic stuff more, as well as the more ambient side of vaporwave. I got a friend who's bigger into the poppy stuff like Saint Pepsi and other future funk guys, but that stuff kind of all blends together for me.

why is it in a /mu vaporwave subgenres thread, can nobody have a logical discussion about this? is it because these subgenre threads and charts are really a passive aggressive way to promote albums, and nobody could really give a fuck about subgenres? seriously though, I am asking a logical faggy music question that deserves a discussion and you're ignoring it. so you know what, fuck you.
>>
Pretty new the the genre and listened to Floral Shoppe, really liked it. What should I listen to from there?
>>
>>51222690
hypnagogic pop is a term used to refer to an existing form of music before vaporwave. it didnt branch from vaporwave but it is a musical style that has a lot of influence on vaporwave now
>>
>>51222820
>hypnagogic pop is a term used to refer to an existing form of music before vaporwave.
yeah, no, I know, I remember those days 2009/2010, chillwave etc. the David Keenan article.
>it didnt branch from vaporwave but it is a musical style that has a lot of influence on vaporwave now
agreed. though don't you think the term can be used to umbrella older saint pepsi, macross, the artists listed here >>51221329 and anyone else doing more popish stuff? late night lofi, future funk, vhs pop whatever you want to call it, how about it's all hypnagogic pop? what's wrong with that? that's really what a lot of these guys are doing. warped pop songs. could help sort out some of the confusion.
>>
>>51223131
fortune 500, even guys like miami vice
>>
>>51223131
i think thats the producers perspective so it works for me. for the record future funk is an EDM genre already so its not the first genre name to refer to multiple genres
>>
>>51223319
>future funk is an EDM genre already
well, then imo i don't think it can really be called vaporwave or even a subgenre of vaporwave, that would make future funk bleep music. and vaporwave isn't bleep.

i'd have to use nu house or nu disco or french house or whatever.

Who here likes oceangrunge?
>>
>>51224064
Go make your own thread, m8. Oceangrunge is for the lower eldritch dimensions of music. Vaporwave, on the other hand, is on the higher planes of music. Both are good, for higher and lower do not rank status, but they do not mix.
>>
>>51221329
>but it looks like it applies to certain kinds of vaporwave now?
No it's just genre crossover. All these genres (witch house, chillwave, seapunk, hpop, vaporwave, mallsoft, etc.) are all related through various scenes and artists. Even though they're all distinct, there's a lot of influences and fusion between them. With vaporwave, 18 Carat Affair was the first to really mix the two, and the releases you mentioned are all kind of the same page with that genre mixing.

I think the question is what's more important in vaporwave, how it's made or how it sounds? because you can't have both if you're trying to categorize it.

it's like a bed is a bed, but you have different types of beds, but how the bed's made has nothing to do with what style of bed it is.
>>
>>51223945
nice
>>
>>51224245
i dont think people are categorizing it by how its made
>>
>>51222690
All charts are a way of promoting albums. Even if the album isn't yours, you're still promoting it. That's the whole point of a chart innit?
>>
>>51224235
lol what the fuck
>>
>>51224393

What do you mean?
>>
>>51224283
eccojams, midijams kind of seem more like production techniques than sounds.

midi is not a sound, it's a protocol and interface.
>>
Vaporwave threads make me hate this genre more and more every day. I used to enjoy it, too.
>>
>>51224156
see >>51224035
>>
>>51224421
"MIDI Presets" doesn't technically mean anything, but it's a term where people can recognize the meaning behind it easily. Yeah it's a stupid term if you have any idea what MIDI is but when people say "midijams" you can understand what kind of sounds they're talking about.

Eccojams is also reasonable imo, there is a difference between Chuck Person and Skeletons.
>>
>>51224476
Fuck you then I'm out of here, have fun fuckhead, I'm trying to discuss shit here and you come along act like a faggot. Fuck off I'd rather eat something. Have good night asshole.
>>
>>51224476
this has actually been a pretty decent thread so far idk what your complaining about go take your zoloft
>>
>>51224421
Nah they're both distinct sounds. Everyone knows midi audio, but everyone recognizes it as that clean digital rompler sound. Eccojams is the same way
>>
>>51224476
I tend to just ignore all the shit and just find more stuff I can enjoy.

But I agree, getting worked up over a genre that's all about chillaxing is stupid.
>>
>>51224476

What makes this vaporwave as opposed to just chiptune? I've got it grouped together with all my vaporwave music and if I'm in a vaporwave listening kinda mood I can easily put this on, but soundwise I haven't heard anything else like it in the vaporwave scene. Is there anymore vaporwave chiptune out there?

No depiction in this plane can ever come close to its glory, only hint at it. It is a world of endless plains and architecture that is simultaneously alive and deserted, ancient and modern, brand new and in ruins. It is a land of ancient gods and the corporate dream often seen in vaporwave.

It is truly wonderful. Art and music here can only hint at its beauty.
