Let's remake the vaporwave sub-genre guide, community approved. Here are my six suggested sub-genres with a few relevant examples, based on SOUND and not aesthetic like the last two guides have been.

I think you can narrow vaporwave down to these 6 sub-genres. Six still sounds like quite a lot but vapor really is and always has been a diverse style

1. Eccojams
2. Midijams
3. Ambient-based (hypnagogic drift and futurevisions in the new guide)
4. Transmission-based (broken transmission, tvcore, vapornosie)
5. VHS Pop (vhs pop, future funk, late night lo-fi)
6. Vaportrap

Examples,

Eccojams - Eccojams, Macintosh Plus
Midijams - Far Side Virtual, ClearSkies/Home
Ambient-based - Amun Dragoon, golden living room
Transmission - Nmesh, Speed-racer
VHS Pop - luxury elite, saint pepsi
Vaportrap - Blank Banshee, vaperror

We could try and come up with ten for each category and I will make a guide based on the selections.

First off before we decide on which albums go in which categories, are these sub-genres suitable? Am I missing any?

>dream catalogue/viral suggestions

Why are you so obsessed with this chart? Why can't we just have vaporwave threads like we used to?
>>
>dropping Mallsoft and Utopian Virtual
Disgusting
>>

this

the rym chart is good because it's obviously not biased towards a shitty label, and they even have an album on there from dream catalogue i think, so it's obviously not against it either
>>
>>51191589
What is utopian virtual?
>>
First off, how are you defining transmission. Nmesh and speed racer are so vastly different. are you basing it only on samples being from tv commercials? If that is true then they have multiple genres. I would say Nmesh falls under eccojams, future funk, transmission VHS pop (if thats what you want to call it) and speed racer under transmission and more heavily vapornoise.

here is my list for genre names

eccojams (necessary)
mallsoft (necessary)
segahaze
vapornoise
future funk
>>
>>51191540
Both make use of a lot of transmission noises. If I'm wrong then let's discuss it, thats the point of thsi thread.

>>51191566
Why do you keep calling me Dream Catalogue? I have no idea why you arrived at that conclusion.

>>51191589
Mallsoft is an aesthetic, so is utopian virtual. But we can find places for them in genres defined by sound.
>>
>>51191566
Literally one artist he listed is on Dream Catalogue.
>>
>>51191646
>let's discuss
No fuck you
>>
>>51191646
No, mallsoft is a distinct genre. if anything it is the only well defined vaporwave subgenre and the most accepted one. mallsoft is an essential classification
>>
>>51191639
What is segahaze supposed to be? Define it by sound.

Maybe we can drop Nmesh if his album is too diverse.
>>
>>51191646
Mallsoft has fucking mall field recordings in it, and the songs are repetetive as fuck, I would say it's by far the most distinct vaporwave subgenre.
>>
Why can't vaporheads get along for shit?
>>
>>51191446
what subgenre is this ?

>>
Okay, let's have mallsoft.

1. Eccojams
2. Midijams
3. Ambient-based (hypnagogic drift and futurevisions in the new guide)
4. Transmission-based (broken transmission, tvcore, vapornosie)
5. VHS Pop (vhs pop, future funk, late night lo-fi)
6. Vaportrap
7. Mallsoft

Can we think of new names for transmission based and ambient based?
>>
>>51191646
>Both make use of a lot of transmission noises. If I'm wrong then let's discuss it, thats the point of thsi thread.
That doesn't mean they're in the same genre, they just have similar sample bases, as well as they're both going for the same AESTHETIC

>Why do you keep calling me Dream Catalogue? I have no idea why you arrived at that conclusion.
It's probably because of all the shitty spamming that they do all the time here with the multiple charts and with the name calling and everything, so when we see people still lobbying for charts that are obviously apart of their agenda, we don't trust them.

>Mallsoft is an aesthetic, so is utopian virtual. But we can find places for them in genres defined by sound.
You obviously don't listen to much mallsoft
>>
>>51191720
segahaze relies more heavily on 90s era videogame sounds. I think it is distinct enough to be considered its own sound
>>
>>51191723
Well first we have to decide how specific we're getting with these subgenres. I do think Mallsoft should be included, but that also makes it hard to just throw everything a little poppy together with future funk.
>>
>>51191761

the problem with VHS Pop by this definition is you're going to have Midnight Television next to Yung Bae, as an example
>>
>>51191761
>VHS Pop
>Transmission-based
take these stupid names off the list
>>
>>51191781
you have a bad distinction of the genres. future funk is completely different than mallsoft. i cant even believe you are comparing them
>>
>>51191802
And replace them with what? You're not helping by just being negative.
>>
>>51191817
When did I compare mallsoft and future funk?
>>
>>51191749
It's viralshit.
>>
lol this is turning into a huge clusterfuck, you guys will never agree on shit because none of you even know shit about vaporwave beyond your own amateur hour albums you pump out at a rate of one per week
>>
>>51191846
> " I do think Mallsoft should be included, but that also makes it hard to just throw everything a little poppy together with future funk."

i believe that is what you were saying
>>
>>51191761
VHS Pop isn't a thing, you'll find future funk and eccojam crammed into the same place
