never realised how much james blake was paying tribute to mala in this track until i heard the section starting at like 4:00 in this vid, really giving off strong alicia / 2 much chat / left leg out / learn vibes.

and then on top of that, from like 5:00 its basically a rhythm & sound tribute. sickness, hats off to you james you handsome fucker

It's some shitty pop jungle artist who got popular in the late 90's.
Culturally speaking, he contributed to the scene about as much as Netsky has contributed to dnb today. Musically speaking, it's only appropriate that his new shit sounds like a watered down and more fidget'y version of a literal Netsky tune. The man is nothing but a fool who jumps on semi-known bandwagons in the genre to keep himself relevant.
His music is shite.

Any recs?
>>
>>50803768
I must say, it's truly disheartening to see so many who don’t realize how game changing that EP is. Sure the first track, Rival Dealer, starts off like a typical Burial track with ambience and spoken word samples, but then the beats kick in and something revolutionary happens. Honestly, it’s like Burial has created some sort of new genre on this song, like “speed dubstep” or something. On “Hiders”, Burial crafts a sort of futuristic, ambient, uplifting RnB influenced style which already sounds ahead of it’s time. Then, we get to the closing track, “Come Down To Us”, a 13+ progressive musical masterpiece incorporating many atonal and atypical elements from non-Western music. There is also a continued RnB influence on this track. But don’t be deceived, this is a very challenging and experimental piece of music. Songs flow in an out in a medley of emotions and noises. Words cannot describe the magnitude of this track, which, cliché as it sounds, must be heard to be believed. This truly is the sound of the future; Burial isn’t innovating so much as he showing us a glimpse of the already established future of music.
>>
Listened too much dark&murky techno lately, decided to go for something completely opposite. I'll avoid pointless epithetes and metaphores (my vocabular isn't nearly good enough to properly describe this music) and just ask. Is there anything similar to The Field?
>>
>>50803740
>>50803865

Well shit I guess I'm wrong.
Which genres/eras would you compare it to? Because honestly to me it sounds like what i think of when i think of adult contemporary, and 80's & 90's pop.

I actually quite enjoyed his half-time and straight up wub/brostep stuff and the few odd EP's he put out around 2010, but at this point it's really just too fucking stagnant.
This was fun tho
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pk7iA9iu86A

Not sure i want him to go back to his very early, techno roots, but i just wish he'd taken his messed up, distorted and chaotic drums and worked his own way with those.
Some really unique, heavy, sometimes surprisingly clean and polished stuff that he put out.

ignore those guys man, you're right

how deaf do you have to be to listen to hiders and not realise its just a burial-ised version of some 80s synthpop? especially given burial's whole output is a kind of nostalgic-y, echoey take on pre-existing music that he grew up with and loves

/bleep/ feels bad because it is literally the leftovers of the eye dee emms scene both culturally and sonically. Compensates for it by dickriding shitty outdated detroit garbage and cheesy UK house and garage all for the sake of muh obscurity, while still being all over the most popular memegrime and memestep artists, as clearly seen in this thread, but as i already stated: These artists are turned into memes because of not being obscure enough for /bleep/.

But was vaporwave point to mock capitalism? I though the whole thing was about nostalgia.

Also image aside QT still stands as a solid track, the way they remade uk bass as this hyperbright thing, love it.

alright lads

thinking of buying a vinyl set up of technics 1200s

what's the difference?
>>

very nice tracks. i really like LX One currently, as well
>>
>>50817153
cant recite _all_ the differences, but the difference between a Mk2 and a Mk3d is that the MK3 has a "Pitch Reset" button on it and a more recessed On/Off button to prevent accidentally turning it off

most of the models have slight variations but operate the same
>>

the Mk2s on/off switch had nothing surrounding it making it very easy to turn it off when the tables are vertical/in battle style setup. its happened to me too many times - i have one mk2 and one mk3

and yes, the pitch fader is on all models except the mk1s afaik - the mk1s have a pitch pot

The purpose of vaporwave was to empty out the meaning from culture, thereby accelerating capitalism to its logical conclusion and forcing it to collapse in upon itself. The end point of capitalism is essentially its polar opposite, fascism, where every corporate business is owned by one umbrella company, or the state. This was attempting to be achieved by re contextualizing corporate muzak and removing its functional meaning thereby exposing its intrinsic nihilism. Its point wasn't to mock capitalism but to fetishize and satirize it in an attempt to force it to self destruct.

In the same way Hey QT is exposing its own lack of meaning by promoting itself as an advert for an energy drink. Read this interview

http://www.factmag.com/2014/09/09/hey-qt-an-interview-with-2014s-most-love-her-or-hate-her-pop-star/

She refers to the music video for her track as an advert, and is constantly reminding us that the song is superfluous to the "QT Elixer" or whatever the fuck its called. Also see the blatant miming during the live performance on boiler room. This is all an attempt to satirize and mock capitalism and commercialism's effect on pop culture and art.

My problem with it is thats its done fucking badly, it feels so gimmicky, I knew she's be miming before i even watched the video. The concepts are good (albeit stolen from vaporwave) but as an art project its complete wank. Also i have problems with artists that give the finger to their fans, and thats what Sophie is doing when he dosnt turn up to live performances, and just sends a pretty girl to dance to a pre recorded set.

some semi-talented producers are going to bring down capitalism by creating some bullshit genre destined for obscurity and justify it all using concepts they half remember from the English classes in college.

top fucking kek. those people should just film themselves in an actual circle jerk and make a soundtrack to it, because this is what it sounds like.
>>
>>50817544
greentext all you like, you're wrong m8

idm/glitch/ambient stuff either has no clear structure, or has more progressive song-type structures, for example aphex twin. the music posted in /bleep/ all either include 'drop' and breakdown structures like in jungle, dnb, dubstep, garage, grime, etc. or include a 4x4 kick drum like in house and techno and gradually 'unfolding' structures. these help the DJ to beatmatch and to make it easier to fade between tracks

well for a start that's more AFX stuff rather than aphex twin. and second, this is a rule of thumb like i said, not a be-all end-all commandment.
>>
>>50817707
ohh. I also heard that the reason it's called "bleep" is because metal heads always refer to dance music as "nothing but bleeps and bloops".. so that's where it gets its name from. Could be wrong though.
>>
>>50817738
the simple fact of the matter is that you will very rarely, if ever, hear stuff along the lines of autechre and boc and aphex twin in club DJ sets. it's just not very compatible. you're trying to dispute something which has been argued over 1000 times in these threads and we've always come to the same conclusion; idm is in general not suitable for /bleep/

mate you are right when you say that

but i hate the way we have to keep cheapening our music by referring to it just as dance music.

plenty of stuff that gets discussed in here is not purely functional intro-drop-breakdown-drop dance music

the only thing that actually defines /bleep/ is that the majority of posters here come from a certain scene, and a certain culture, where everybody listens to specific music. but you can't define that with semantics.

>>50817624
>>50817802
>>50817749
if u have to ask what /bleep/ is then you don't know and you will never know because it is indefinable and ever evolving

that makes no sense whatsoever, considering the similarities it shares with garage and dubstep. grime instrumentals are incredibly archetypal uk dance music. the MCs add another dimension to the music but it doesnt stop it being dance music. any night in the uk where dubstep and garage get played, grime gets played

>>50817820
and this is where the idea of a music scene comes in. objekts new album is basically a braindance record but his older releases are primarily straight dubstep and techno, so people associate his new music with those genres.
