ITT: Bands with at least one member who was legitimately batshit crazy
Pic related, one of these motherfuckers was in the Japanese Red Army and helped hijack a fucking plane in the 70s.
les rallizes denudes are obscure?
of montreal - pretty sure kevin doesn't have most human emotions
captain beefheart - obviously
burzum - obviously
c.c.c.c. - pretty sure it was them and this isn't really batshit crazy but the frontgirl used to do bondage porn which is p neato. did some lewd stuff at shows.
billy corgan is nuts. believes in chemtrails. uhhh deakin practices voodoo. william bennett has no dick and is also juntaro's dick. i can't really think of many sorry.
no need to be a douche man
anyway on topic captain beefheart. he was apparently a paranoid schizophrenic and did some real crazy shit during the trout mask replica era. there's tons of it in an interview john french did on some freewebs website somewhere
Well yeah but Yamantaka Eye is legitimately batshit though. He almost sawed off his own leg by doing a backflip with a circular saw strapped to his back and everyone knows about the bulldozer
If I'm remembering right, they were all about trying to bring democracy to Japan.
If you think being willing to die for that is crazy, then there's a whole can of worms with plenty of political opinions all over the place
that you'll open.
Sakevi is definitely wacko. Actually assaulting his audience with a chainsaw and homemade flamethrower multiple times (both of which were actually recorded on video at least once), shooting actual firearms at live shows IN JAPAN. And he apparently was in jail for attacking some businessman with a flamethrower. Add some ties to the Yakuza with that. He's in jail right now and makes t-shirts and noise music in there.
I watched the documentary and I don't remember this. Are you sure this is true?
I guess it's not PC but I think it's fucking crazy and/or idiotic. That's just my opinion though
not necessarily "planning". but he did say that he would go that far for his work. and there was a scene in the film where a character (may have been his) had his arms removed. i believe he'd've done it. what's yer fav jodo film?
Well I mean if you're going to go through with a debate on the matter you should have the knowledge to back it up.
But it's cool, I'm just glad you weren't being a dick about it like that first replier
I've only seen Holy Mountain and El Topo but out of those two my favorite is definitely Holy Mountain. I tried watching Santa Sangre but I dropped it about halfway through because it was boring the shit out of me. I might try it again some other time though
Well when you really think about it the social order they were fighting for shouldn't really matter, in terms of craziness at-least. Having a belief worth fighting for shouldn't be measured (in craziness) upon your opinion of that belief, so democracy shouldn't really have been the largest part of my point.
But that's such a loaded and not related to music topic, that it's not worth discussing. I'll concede my stupidity and eagerness to argue without knowing what I'm talking about.
I really love Yamantaka Eye and think his journey through music is really interesting and probably reflects a lot about the journey he had inside of himself
>starts out as a crusty anarchist noisefreak who only wants to destroy everything with his nihilistic art and almost dies/becomes imprisoned a few times for it
>ends up getting through that and forming a band that isn't quite as chaotic and has an overall more positive aesthetic and sound, becomes pretty successful
>moves the band into a higher realm, starts wanting to make peaceful, happier music that invokes a sense of trance and dance within people
>ends up becoming a well-respected artist and does massive projects like the Boadrums and Seadrum
It's just weird to think that a Dadaist punk would end up becoming a sonic Shaman with rasta hair
santa sangre is sorta boring but i have only seen it once. el topo is my favorite. i like westerns. and it's just so silly. i love when he just abandons his son for the hot babe.
Bad Brains (HR - maybe paranoid schizophrenia?)
The 13th Floor Elevators (Roky Erickson - confirmed schizophrenia)
Pink Floyd (Syd Barrett)
Adam & The Ants (Adam Ant - bipolar)
The Vines (Craig Nicholls - Asperger's Syndrome)
You seem like a cool guy as well!
Listen to Mars Studio 1980 by LRD if you haven't already, the version of Night of the Assasins on that release is phenomenal. Also there's a version of Enter the Mirror with an organ and some 30~ minute Guitar Wolf sounding jam.
