Oh jesus, thanks.

I recently got ahold of Fishmans and Cornelius, and I need more.

I feel like such a fucking weeaboo now; I detest anime but Japanese literature (early 20th C mostly) and music are amazing.
>>
>>49580904
Give anime a chance aha. A lot of it is genius, it's about as dumb as disregarding entire genres to disregard all japanese animation on a principle. It's a way for many many people to express art

But anyways. Do your thing.
Heavy personal recommendations

Supercar (Reminds me of radiohead)
Moe and Ghosts (hip-hop)
????????? (noise pop)
Spangle Call Lilli Line (gorgeous dreamlike alternative rock with some electronic fused in)

Pretty common to most people here I'm sure but if you haven't, do.

If anyone has a link to Fuyuki Yamakawa's Blackwater Vision Quest I would love you forever.

Some nice pop stuff:

Thanks m8. I'm just getting into it so anything helps.

I'm liking Halcali, but I can't listen to that without thinking of fucking Mambo No. 5 for the background.

Shigeo Sekito
Don't know much about him aside from the fact that he does cool jazz stuff that was released on 4 or more albums. Mac DeMarco sampled one of his songs for Chamber of Reflection. If anyone has any links to his stuff, I would appreciate it. It also looks like music books were released of his albums as well.

I believe it's a pretty weak release, I still find it better than anything posted ITT and every japanese album I've heard this year. That "EverythingChanges" song doesn't sound very impressive to me, but I'm gonna download the whole album and see...

Jesus Christ, that's a long list. Haven't read all of it, but did a quick CTRL+F and didn't see ????????? (Suiyoubi no Campanella) or Taquwami or Qrion or Seiho, so I'll recommend those. YouTube link extravaganza!

Like what the other anon above said, categorically dismissing anime is like saying, "I don't like movies." I'm not going to knock you if that's the position you want to take, but you're missing out on a lot of really creative stuff (personal recommendation: Paprika or Paranoia Agent, both by Kon Satoshi, and both fucking incredible).

Same goes for literature. Early 20th c. is fine and all, but it's mostly just Meiji discontents writing about misanthropy and the pains of rapid industrialization along the lines of other nations' models. Again, that's fine, and Kokoro and Snow Country and Wild Geese are really famous with good reason, but if you go a bit later in the century, you find people like Abe Kobo writing fascinating, surreal books like Woman in the Dunes or The Box Man. Worth checking out, in my opinion. Then again, I'm a grad student doing modern Japanese lit. and film, so I might be biased.

Best Capsule releases? Been looking at getting into them after listening to 'Hello'

PS, what genre would you assign to ?????????? I've been trying and failing to come up with something. She doesn't have the same bubbly, "I will die before I stop holding this smile I practiced!" disposition of electro pop (plus rapping is a major part of her delivery), but rap doesn't feel quite right, either. Shibuya-kei?

Are there any bands that sound like School Girl Distortional Addict-era Number Girl that are not related to NG (i.e Bloodthirsty Butchers, toddle, Spiral Chord/cowpers)?

They've been my favorite band for so long and I still can't quite get over how amazing Touch is. It's probably my favorite song ever. I'd like more stuff like that, but from Japan.

I don't know entirely but I've been liking this band uh, ART-SCHOOL
They're relatively catchy and a fun sound, I'm not sure how close they are but they give heavy vibes for some reason still.
