Today we post only 10/10 albums
Criticism MUST be followed by an alternative album
I'm sure this will be met with a lot of criticism but its still a 10/10 for me.
>>49460850
far longer than it should have been with very few memorable tracks
>>49460928
>>49460928
"Business men they drinkin' my blood / like the kids in art school said they would"
"ROCOCO ROCOCO!"
"I want to wash away my sins / in the presence of my friends"
"I wish I could have loved you then / before our age was through"
"THEY HEARD ME SINGING AND THEY TOLD ME TO STOP / QUIT THOSE PRETENTIOUS THINGS AND JUST PUNCH THE CLOCK"
Yeah, I guess not that many memorable songs.
I think this album is a 10 out of 10!
This is a ten out of ten for me
So different from the rest of the discography, but I fucking love it
>>49461058
Cemeteries of London, Yes and the first half of D&AHF save it from being something special.
One of the few albums where a live version surpasses the studio version
I don't see any metal album here, must be a mistake
Album: 10/10
The Unforgiven: 11/10
>>49460850
I wouldn't give it a 10 but it's a great album nonetheless
>If I was scared, I would
>If I was pure, you know I would
>And if I was yours... But I'm not
>In line for a number but you don't understand, like a modern man
>And if it's alright, then how come you can't sleep at night?
>And my old friends, I can remember when
>You cut your hair, I never saw you again
>Now the cities we live in could be distant stars
>And I search for you in every passing car
Best Track: Ready To Start
Worst Track: Month Of May
>>49460850
Basically what >>49460928 said, concept is cool but waaaay too long (and boring).
>>49461058
3 Great tracks, rest is shit.
>>49461325
OP here
I agree, Ready to start is a masterpiece. My least fav track is Rococo, I get the sarcasm but in the end it turns out to be boring
Half Light II is a close second to best
inb4 murika
inb4 dadrock
>>49461419
Rococo drags on a bit it's true
the constant repetition of the damn word doesn't help either
yeah I couldn't decide between Ready To Start and Half Light II
>>49461419
I ended up really liking Rococo because of something very specific to me.
In my school, we had a weekly vocabulary test called the "Word of the Day" which was probably a really standard thing. You had to memorize these vocab words, their definitions, their etymologies, and use them in a sentence. One of these words was rococo but there were no pictures and nobody in the class ever cared enough to do more than the minimum for these tests so every single person in the class wrote some awful nonsense sentence with the word "rococo" in it.
So that's what I think of when I hear "Using great big words they don't understand." I know the song's about something else but it's very easy for me to read it as a song that's about something specific for me.
>>49461422
You mean inb4 Nebraska was better?
>>49461422
strong 8, but definitely not a 10.
>>49461198
But those are the best songs
>>49461315
4 chill jren
I will never stop pimping this album out. It's perfect.
>>49461422
Great album 10/10 for me also
>>49461058
5/10 most of the songs sucked and the album was really boring to listen to. At least it is not Ghost Stories but it still not even close to a 10/10 for me.
>>49461378
the other window. and even though i think 154 has some of the best tracks between the two, pic related is more consistently amazing
>>49461555
Yeah, I guess you are right.
When I thought about the album I was really thinking about 'I'm on fire'
I have a controversial opinion on a 10/10 album.
Anyone want to tell me why I'm wrong?
>>49461691
I was kind of joking about Nebraska. If I really had to pick a best Springsteen album, it'd be a self-compiled best of. All of his albums have some boring songs on them imo.
GOAT is "Atlantic City"
Yup.
>>49461684
>>49461378
agree with these
>>49461680
haven't heard this but I listened to This Nation's Saving Grace for the first time recently and it was really good
>inb4 muh indie
>>49461681
8.5-9/10 school spirit and it's skits, the lil jimmy skit and workout plan are bad. LR is just as good and maybe a little better
>>49460979
>posts a bunch of boring lyrics
>is a redditor
>>49460850
Not a criticism. But. That's a light 8/10 for me. One of my favourites of 2010, as well as the decade so far. Great. Just not their best in my opinion.
>>49461022
no argument here. except clube da esquina is better
>>49461811
probably a 10/10. Solid Gold is like an 8.5/10.
>>49461754
nah man this a legit 10
>>49460850
Underrated album here but a bit too long. Honestly, I like Neon Bible and the first EP best.
>>49460928
Good album, 8 or 9/10 though.
>>49461422
Really overrated.
>>49461681
>>49461768
>>>/pitchfork/
>>>/ktt/
Kanye West is atrocious, 0/10
>>49461684
great album
>>49461699
terrible commercial garbage
>>49461746
Good album, solid 9/10
>>49461754
Good but gotten sort of old to me.
>>49461811
Pretty good, but I think it's a little overrated. I like Mission of Burma Better.
Here's a 10/10
>>49461773
Why people give so many fucks I use reddit?
>>49461981
Because le reddit boogeyman.
Reddit is just as awful as 4chan in reality. Both are full of edgy teenagers that love memes. The only difference is we listen to le right generation music while they like le wrong generation music.
>>49461975
>Kanye West is atrocious
Wanna be best friends?
>>49462027
/r/lewronggeneration is pretty much just /mu/ for redditors.
having spent only a couple months lurking and posting here tho, I feel like the big difference is that /mu/ is friendlier than reddit in general while also posting more shitting things. There's more tolerance, even if that means tolerating people calling you an asshole for loving whatever you want to love.
>>49461253
This, This, This.
Absolutely perfect from beginning to end with more memorable moments than I can count. The first time I heard
>SOOOOOMETHINGS IN THE AIR...AFTER ALL
I was blown the fuck away.
I honestly prefeer this over Leviathan.
>>49462087
I think both sites can be pretty unfriendly, to be honest. If you don't fit into the hivemind of either board people are going to shit on you. On /mu/ you're probably just more likely to get ironic shit posting and meme responses. On reddit you'll probably get some autist writing a paragraph on why you're stupid and a couple of hundred downvotes.
>>49462087
>I feel like the big difference is that /mu/ is friendlier than reddit in general
what
>>49461680
this guy knows
>tfw i will never be a hip priest
>>49460979
Jesus christ, i thought you were posting the most cringeworthy lyrics from the album, then it turns out you were trying to promote it.
I mean i like the album, but your post gets a 0/10.
>>49460850
>>49462185
I could see him thinking this if he likes /mu/ approved music that the wrong generation kids don't like. Both are pretty bad and much more similar than people would like to think. It's funny when people redirect people to reddit for defending feminism or something because reddit is basically 4chan lite.
>>49462220
I was just trying to think of all the memorable songs and put a lyric from each of them. I wasn't trying to bestof the lyrics exactly, just going off the top of my head. I thought maybe other people would feel similar things about similar lines because they're just the ones that floated right to the top of my memory but oh well. I don't mind looking dumb because I really am that dumb.
>>49462203
But he is not appreciated.
>>49462288
I wonder if those people are aware of r/spacedicks? I find it hilarious that Obama did an AMA at a site that has THAT shit going on.
>>49462288
>>49462185
I think it's friendlier because of the format. On reddit, you downvote stuff you don't like and that hides that opinion. Opinions edit the discourse and make shit invisible.
On 4chan, if you shitpost, people talk to you and every post is exactly as ephemeral as any other post. I interpret that as friendlier-- in a way.
>>49462345
I will kill you in your sleep
>>49462249
>SOOOOOMETHINGS IN THE AIR...AFTER ALL
this, listening to Halo right now
>>49462362
That's true, and I think if you get enough downvotes your account can be disabled.
Music is very clearly a short-term habit because i've liked almost every album posted in this thread at some point in my life. Now I just download albums and send them to the trash. Welp, time for a new hobby
>>49462870
Why would you download an album just to delete it? Do you have autism?
>>49461746
What do you rate Spirit of Eden? I can't decide which album I like better.
>>49461975
hell yeah
There's just something about pic related that gets me. Probably not a 10/10 on any objective level (if there is such thing) but to me it's a 10/10
>>49461022
Are you actually from Acre?
criminally underappreciated on /mu/
>>49462924
Do you think people have internet there lol
>>49463186

>>49463359

>>49461841

>>49463346

>>49461768

>>49463465

Fuck it, I don't care.
>>49463376
It's a lively, fun-sounding rock album that is nonetheless sort of dark and will leave you kinda sad. Like a Little Miss Sunshine kinda mood.
It really just succeeds in every way a rock album could. The lyrics are memorable for both their content and the way they flow, and the songs are paced/structured in varied and interesting ways that keep you from getting bored even after repeated listens. The latter is largely due to the fact that the rhythm section (especially the drummer) is absolutely GOAT.
It also just sounds really good – great vocal takes (it was also their last album with the best singer in the band IMO), godly bass tone, lush harmonies and real slick mixing.
It's a well-paced album, full of VERY well-structured songs, but – as per the thread topic – the main point is that it all just comes together to make an album that I listen to cover to cover every time.
below = good example of the mix of sombre and saccharine

>>49467353
nah man... a 10/10 album has to be flawless - there are at least 4 pretty average tunes on that record, so its an 8.5 at most
pic related, one of the few Jazz albums without a single weak section
>>49467543
>one of the few Jazz albums without a single weak section

my propositions
>>49467353
coexist is better imo
>>49464042
close but no cigar, 9 for me
The perfect album.
>>49467792
In my opinion it's their most underwhelming album yet. I wasn't expecting another Hippie Killer but every track on that album could have been cut in half.
>>49468013
The drone bit in Descent could have been shortened by a bit, but I think this album really brings out that melancholy, miserable feeling in a way that only Bongripper do, but maybe it's just because I really, really like droney riffs.
>>49468755

>>49461315
I really hope this is bait. How could you enjoy that, exactly? It's all generic, boring songs we've heard about a million times.
>Same basic song patterns
>Simple riffs
>Only one memorable song
This is the one album I can listen to whilst in any mood and always come out of it feeling good, it's constructed brilliantly
>>49470660
I hope you're baiting too, you literally described megadeth
>>49469529
There She Goes Again is incredibly weak in comparison to the rest of the album.
>>49470836
are you kidding, the vocal harmonies in that song are awesome!
>>49470833
Serious question here, do you really think that? Which of Megadeth's first 4 albums would you consider generic or boring? Sure, afterwards they suck, but i was curious as to why you'd say that.
>>49470836
Agree with your choice. Starless is amazing
>>49469970

You're all disgusting plebs.
Pic Related is the only ONE TRUE 10/10
>>49460850
I very deeply relate to this album. 'Spent the summer staring out the window,' 'The music divides us into tribes,' 'I would rather be alone than pretend I feel alright,' 'Late at night the feelings swim towards the surface.' I am part of a generation that has grown up in a weirdly plastic suburban environment numbed by mass media. The kids of the sixties grew up in the same environment, but they protested and rebelled, they spoke out. When the revolution was commodifed by the greedhead eighties, it stopped being cool to care about anything and all the plastic music and big popcorn movies so falsified emotion that no one seemed to be allowed to publicly feel anything anymore. The Suburbs is an album looking at all the desperately real emotion bubbling under a million identical facades trying to conform and asking how and when exactly conformity and being void of personality managed to become cool, asking where the unending circle jerk of ironic detachment and distaste for everything gets us.
>>49477427
I guess you have to get some emotional connection to the lyrics to consider the album a 10/10.
The thing is, even if some tracks aren't 10/10, the album topic overall is worthy of at least a 9
