Haven't heard them, but what is it that makes them a new wave of math rock? I'm genuinely curious.

Are there any good math-rock bands that are more melodic in nature rather than drawn-out and sound-scapey?

Or is that basically what math rock is?

Math Rock was supposed to be the contrary (imo). Full instrumental, lots of hooks, rhythmic irregularities, and stuff like that.
Check Critical Meat by You Slut! It's like an instrumental Math Punk band that plays a different melody each 10 seconds.
Sajjanu is like that too, but even more extreme.

I don't know what new wave math rock is, but it's pretty good and melodic and all that.

Hey guys, im an absolute complete newbie when it comes to math-rock, but I listened to this album Gloss Drop by battles which lastfm calls math-rock and enjoyed it very much. so tell me guys, is the album really math-rock? and what are good math-rock albums for a beginner?

Not really Math Rock, but I would consider it Post-Rock (but not in the same way /mu/ does it).

Math rock would be better without the rock part. The heavy distortion hides flaws and lack of complexity.
