>Tfw they say "they must have made this crap when their brains were fried on all those drugs lol"
>Mfw one of them actually mimes smoking a joint when he hears Strawberry Fields Forever
Don't confuse this with a wrong generatun thread. Just a pleb stories general.
then you need some friends who aren't faggots because you sound like a faggot yourself. maybe then you'll stop being such a faggot that you make threads like this making fun of your supposed 'friends' that you clearly don't like enough to start threads about what plebs they are on an imageboard.
>at a party
>start talking with some dude about drugs
>all of a sudden, he gets his phone up
>"hey guys, listen to this song i've made"
>proceed to play some very shitty attempt at house, my first thought was that he made it in some dance ejay program
>"it's great, right? right?"
>"y-yeah it's good"
>"I use FL9 if you've heard of it, and it's fucking hard man"
>15 minutes later, he plugs his phone into the speakers at the party just to show everyone his fucking tune
>he actually had it as his ringtone
fuck people who push their own music down in everyones throats
>tfw your weed dealer is a musician who generally makes terrible music and does shows where he jumps off of shit onstage and injures himself for shock value
>tfw you have to pretend to like his music and occasionally attend his shows so he'll give you giant cuts of extra weed out of goodwill
at the very least, after making 7 albums he's at least trying to use actual instruments in his music now.
>put on ??????420 / ????????
>"what the fuck anon, this is just diana ross slowed down"
>"what else do you have on here?"
>roommate grabs my ipod and clicks on random songs
>by pure chance, they're all vaporwave
>"is there something you're not telling me? why do you only listen to slowed down 80s shit?"
that's literally what he said, "this new album is gonna be the one where I start using actual instruments". all his music has just been made in FL studio or some shit for the past 9 years while sampling old noise/industrial albums. Now he finally decide to mix guitars and drums and a saxaphone in there.
Since I live in a dorm for one more month, I got a random roommate again. We started talking about music
>says he likes screamo
>as a fan of screamo, ask what bands he currently likes
>lists off a bunch of shitty power metal
>says he doesn't listen to albums in order because he gets bored with the track listing
>keeps recommending I use spotify to "support artists"
>doesn't know what a tracker is, tells me that I should just use youtube-to-mp3 on "HD videos"
I thought this was just stuff that people posted here as a joke, I didn't know these were real people.
>tfw you have that one friend who's a really good host whenever he throws parties, usually always has a ton of nice food, drinks, games and such, but he always insists on changing vaporwave
>tfw for some reason he loves making out with his boyfriend to vaporwave, so at least 10 people have to all say they want to listen to something else before he'll change it
>Be playing Public Castration is a Good Idea for friend
>13 seconds in he says "man, that shit is boring"
>I try to explain to him that it's not
>He puts on Billy Joel
at least billy Joel is a guilty pleasure of mine
He makes amazing melodies. But his lyrics are usually very predicable and silly. He is easy listening music. not that that is a bad thing. I enjoy the fuck out of him but I can't write good lyrics without using terrible cliches
80's Billy Joel doo-wop sucks ass!!
>her favourite Smiths album is the Queen is Dead

>friend is such a pleb he has no idea who any of the bands are

>has a picture with her though now
>texts me asking if I've ever heard of Spoon during their performance
>just decides not to go last day
>doesn't give his ticket to anyone or let anyone but his cousin know, just lets a ticket worth $150 at least go to waste
>sees Hercules in theaters instead
I'm still pissed off about it
That's how much a one-day pass cost. All three days were in the three hundred range. I probably still would have bought one after I found out at least someone I'm friends with was going, but by that time I'd already scheduled work on those days

I'm sure i can think of more.
>>liking albums just because it's a meme to like it
>a certain coconut headed bitch album comes to mind
How new are you? It's not a meme to like that album, a lot of people legitimately think it's a masterpiece. How many times did you listen to it?
You mean you don't have hord of /mu/ faggots dickriding that album that started off as some twat saying it was "amazing" ironically? Totally.
By the way, nice double arrow. Did you think it would make the sentence more green?
A lot of my plans get cancelled because my friends are really shitty at organizing shit like we were going to see panda bear a few months ago and i was until a few days before so i tried to get a plan together as much as i could before leaving and when i got back they had absolutely nothing planned. I was fucking pissed.
Are you fucking stupid? This post is still fucking up.
At school i was listening to music and i was deciding what album to put on and these two people were asking me what i was doing and they were both legitimately confused that i was going to put on a whole album.
You seem upset. This is why your coconut head album is so meme. If you called any of my favorite albums shit, i wouldn't care. However, whenever someone calls out the coconut bitch on being a twat-tier album, you flip shit. Way to be secure.
i think it captures what was needed, what do you think?
I've listened to the album three times. The instrumentation is basic. The same chords are repated over and over again. The lyrics are bullshit. The singer can't sing. I shouldn;t have to like an album just because /mu/ collectively dickrides it.
It isn;t enjoyable for me. That should have been obvious. Whether you enjoy it or not is completely irrelevant. All that I'm saying is, it's a meme. That's a completely undeniable fact.
That faggots like you hivemind over it and can't even take the slightest amount of criticism toward it.
Favorite albums guise?
hurr durr the coconut lady
yeah the coco lady
guffaw guffaw yeh tha coco ladee
That's what you faggots sound like.
The masses never heard a pop song with instrumentation like A day in the Life
Its filled with strings and unconventional drum fills, as well as a sudden tone shift during Paul's part. Also that 30 second piano chord at the end played by 3 separate pianos
>not refuting my arguement in the slightest
>pointing out something stupid that even a retard would have understood what was meant
Confirmed for twelve year old.
We're done, twat. Lates.
I'm dying reading this.
>Friends with pretty funny guy from work. sense of humor reminds me of Mac Demarco.
>Talks to girlfriend all the time about panic at the disco.
>Insists they are an influential punk band.
>Tell him that most bands that have been through the process of being aired and marketed on the radio are usually just homogonized pop versions of music from other subgenres. Not that it's bad it's just pop.
>keeps my girlfriend listening to it.
>refuses to listen to anything new.
I'm not refuting your argument because ITAOTS has been discussed and analyzed and critiqued to death here.
If you want to know why people like it, listen to it more than fucking three times, or read some reviews on it, because /mu/ is far from the only place that loves it.
Nah, I mean most of their stuff. Mr. Blue Sky is good, but I also like 'Telephone Lines', 'The Diary of Horace Wimp', 'Sweet Talking Woman', and 'Xanadu'
But you could make the argument that a lot of modern music wouldn't exist without the Beatles.
oh calm down i just did that because you made it so easy
>reading this music website called 4chan
>go to a story about idiots

>no replies, what was i thinking?
>but, what if i could actually find her?
>post the picture every now and then for a few months hoping she'd browse /mu/ as well
>sometimes feel like i'm wasting my time but it seems almost fateful that i ran into what she wrote so keep posting every now and then
>a year goes by
>one day get reply from someone who claims to be her
>gives me skype adress, we talk

>talk to her everyday for a week about mostly music related stuff, she's really into nmh, antlers, anco, radiohead, the list goes on
>learn a couple things about her; she's 17, collects records (she shows me her copy of ITAOTS) and plays acoustic guitar (covers king of carrot flowers p.1 for me on skype)
>turns out she lives 5 minutes away
>she wants to meet
>finally the time comes
>tell her to meet at a cafe half way between our homes, she asks if we could go check out some records later
>"yeah sure why not"
>we arrive at the same time so meet her in the street
>she says "hi anon" with a smile in her face, "how are --"
>slap that bitch across the face
>she screams and freaks out
>face is red
>cries/screams "WHAT THE FUCK ANON WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT"
>"that's for listening to entry level hipster grabage"
>calmly walk back home
>get back to posting on /mu/
Yeah but it gets really old when he's climbing on top off the bar table and then falling backwards of off it for the 20th time and it's gotten to the point where all of us (his friends) know he's going to do it, so we all rush over because we know he's just going to injure his back if we don't catch him when he falls.
This story genuinely warmed my heart in ways you can't imagine.
>you're not cool for claiming authenticity
and you think come out as cool by dismissing posts as "memes"? or is it winning epic internet fights that makes you so much better than everyone? give me a break
what are you even doing in this thread if "meme arrows" and "buzzwords" trigger your asperger's?
I live in Florida. Here's how this conversation would go here.
>What's your favorite Smiths album
>I'ts a British pop band that was really big in this genre called jangle pop.
>(feigning interest) hm that's intersting! (changes subject)
Depending on the level of ignorance It could even progress into me being called a faggot liberal. Count your lucky stars you live in a place where alt bands are widely known. You could have to deal with this:
>Country music is a pretty standard life soundtrack if you live in the South or any rural area, but if you live in a city, especially a super liberal, quinoa-eating, Ralph-Nader-voting, Arcade-Fire-worshiping one (ahem, Portland), being a country fan can be pretty lonely. In fact, when I lived in Portland, I was convinced I hated country until a couple of my friends basically forced me to listen to it. Now I live in Nashville. Coincidence? Kind of. Mostly.
>Now I live in Nashville. Coincidence? Kind of. Mostly.
>Coincidence? Kind of. Mostly.
Beatles weren't "pleb" (funny music meemee teehee)
they certainly were pop though and a lot less influential than people give them credit for. They are kind of like the kanye west of the art rock and mainstream rock world. They married the two scenes really solidly unlike any other act could and with sgt peppers introduced psychedelia to a much wider audience.
jesus christ these
Think of everything that gets called hipster and why it does. Used to be a bunch of spike jonze watching pseudo-intellectuals working on their next novel that could be called that. Now it's anyone casually invested in anything not mass produced or marketed. I work at a Starbucks and this shit makes me want to kill myself (aside from working at starbucks.)
See all this bullshit right here:
>they certainly were pop though and a lot less influential than people give them credit for. They are kind of like the kanye west of the art rock and mainstream rock world. They married the two scenes really solidly unlike any other act could and with sgt peppers introduced psychedelia to a much wider audience.
I don't give a fuck.
They make music that I like, I can listen to most of their albums all the way through and enjoy them, their songs are musically complex yet still catchy, and their production is really fucking good.
That constitutes a great fucking band to me, when Kanye writes a catchy song in 12/3 times that goes through three key changes lemme know.
>TFW friends were talking about going to Lolla day 3
>Eh, I don't really wanna spend a lot of money like that
>Didn't tell me Chance the Rapper was gonna be there
>Didn't tell me Vic Mensa was gonna be there
>Didn't tell me Childish Gambino was gonna be there
Fuck, guys. You know I liked those rappers, you could've at least name dropped them. Jesus.
>my understanding of quality is based solely on the complexity of music.
Then shouldn't you listen exclusively to math rock then? or better yet harsh noise? Anything that evades music theory completely?
Never said that.
My understanding of quality is if I like something. There are a few (very few) math rock bands I can listen to, hash noise is crazy if I'm tripping balls.
I like the beatles, I admire their genuis and complex yet organic sounding music. I don't only like it because it's complex, I'll have a great day listening to the ramones.
If I like a song, I like it. If it's genius, I'll respect it for that, if it's bare-bones and stupid, I'll admire it for that.
Music is music man, you like it or you don't, but comparing the Beatles to Kanye is fucking dumb.
I'm saying that the Beatles are usually overrated by their fans and underrated by their naysayers, but that's just my opinion.
So you are saying that Kanye didn't use pop and experimental elements in his last two albums? Or that The Beatles didn't? Or that both don't have popular and critical acclaim?
or are you just saying talking about it is dumb because if it's that, you came to the wrong place to think that.
That's an oxymoron. Best is fucking personal opinion you pleb pieces of human garbage.
Why do humans need to convince everyone that their favorite is best. If you want to argue something is "best" you need to be able to demonstrably test it. There can be a best car, there can be a best computer, but there can't be a best song, as there are no tools to measure how enjoyable a piece of fucking sound is you whores.
I mean, at some stage after listening to loads of music you're just going to listen to what you like, right? Taste is subjective, and just because I like one album over another does not mean I'm a pleb, as long as it comes from a place of honesty and having listened to everything else as well.
I'm completely entry-level having listened to just a good bit of alternative rock my whole life. I'm listening to the first hip-hop/electronic music I ever really have in my life right now. Complete entry level stuff.
Do I just keep going and listening to stuff until I can make my own mind up about it? Do I just keep trying new things and persevere? Right now, I like certain things I'm hearing but some of you might consider those opinions help me.
How do I listen to new music man?
>beatles are so experimental yet accessible that's why I like them
>kanye west cant even play the guitar he just makes pop music with computers!
The double layer of contradiction in this is killing me.
I try not to even do that because I hate thinking I'm some zeitgeist of musically knowledge but yeah that too. You just simply recommend shit it and people turn their nose up at you.
I'm not even that patrician, I'm very entry-level with most stuff and I rarely venture outside my favorite genres, and I don't get out to a lot of different places as often as "normal" people, but damn I have never met anyone with the level of legitimate interest in music as anyone from this site.
Some people I know are better than others, I mean my best friend will at least listen to full albums and give things a chance, but everyone else is either a radio/top 40 drone, an obnoxious EDM fag, or a person who is super into "metal" such as Slipknot, Korn, Avenged Sevenfold etc., and they all use 3-dollar earbuds (except for the EDM guy who uses Beats, lol).
I'm not even trying to be pretentious, I don't act like a douche about it to people, and I will gladly admit that my tastes are very narrow and entry-level, but I just wish I could meet one fellow /mu/tant IRL (who isn't an obnoxious shitposter anyways).
The way I try to turn people on to critical listening is reccomending bands that are poppy but lend themselfs to "im such a hispter"-types. from there I just try to introduce them to more and more experimental stuff.
tfw you are a sociopath and treat everyone like children :(
Man, it can't be that hard for you guys to find people who actually like music, right? I'm not even in a huge city or anything, but I still managed to find a group of friends who go to noise shows and explore music beyond what's p4k hyped. I'm the pleb one of them
If you listen to what you like, then you have taste. Ain't nothing wrong with that. However, branching out into the genres and types of music you don't usually lean towards is important for understanding music as a whole, and being able to discern what bands in those genres are "good" or "bad", and why. Actual reasons why. Not "oh man these guys are chill" or "dude this beat is heavy". Artists that actually do interesting things instrumentally or play with themes not often touched upon are the type of artists who /my/ can at least have a decent convo about.
P.s. If you like alternative rock, try animal collective. You'll get that recommendation a lot.
>tfw people when think metal with harsh vocals is screamo
yeah having a gay vaporwave bro isn't bad.
it's also great because he's the only person I can really discuss anime and video games with in ridiculous detail. most people I know are casuals compared to him.
>girl in music class is into music
>asks me what I'm listening to one day
>"oh yeah he's cool"
>talk to her more about music
>she enjoys In Rainbows
>get her into ITAOTS
>she tells me its interesting, "it's very lofi" she's listened to it 3 times in a week
>ask her what she thinks of the lyrics (overheard her saying she attends church every sunday so curious what she thinks)
>wht lyrics? you can't really understand them
>"what do you mean? his voice is weird but they aren't THAT hard to understand."
>turns out she's been listening to the 8 kbps version of ITAOTS on YouTube
>we both laugh
>"that wasn't lo-fi, that was no-fi"
>she actually listens to the real album, enjoys it as well
>tfw she's into a bunch of new album
>talk to her about Benji, TBK
>suspect she just goes on p4k
>tfw I will probably never discuss my AOTYSF with a girl again in my life
>witnessed a Slipknot and Disturbed recommendation between 17 yo guys
>chilling with friends
>put morton feldman's second string quartet
>confront myself and my self (as an ontological historical entity) with the mirror of atonality (as a mirror is not an empathic but a reflexive entity, alien to the space and time it reflects and only existing by itself in relation to the other) and realize the boundaries of human thought, comprehension and consciousness
>reach rational ecstasy
>pleb friend gets up and says "what is this silence shit, lmao, put some nirvana"
>get angry at their rockist subaltern consumption conditioned by the structures of power of the imperialist white economies, but contain it
>calm myself down by remembering quotes from finnegans wake, my favorite book since i was a teenager

>tfw you couldve been at gambini's wallet
Honestly I would be happy finding a chill guy who was a complete P4K/Fantano drone like I basically am, it would be way better than having a best friend who listens to baby metal and BotDF.
I feel this on a spiritual level anon
I s2g I'm so pleb and I pretty much only listen to the canon albums of the genres I'm interested in but holy fuck there is nobody with half-decent music taste anywhere near me and I just wanna find one cool friend who I'll be able to share music and movies with before I graduate high school
pleb quotes that I experienced irl during my 8th grade black metal phase:
>regular swagfag girl asks to see my music
>looks through black metal playlists
>"it's just a bunch of black and white covers"
>"yeah it's black metal"
>"oh cool! what's your favorite Metallica band?"
>qt3.1415 theater boy asks if I listen to metal
>"oh cool so what are your favorite subgenres?"
>talks for like 2 mins straight about death, black, and crust punk bands
>"um im mostly into slip knot and system of a down but I listen to black metal too! Suicide Silence is awesome!"
> me: :'))) dies on the inside
I've never been into metal but I didn't get into music in a "serious" way until last year (which is when I first started coming to /mu/).
When I was a teenager I was the biggest pleb you can imagine, nothing but Skrillex and deadmau5 in high school and radio rap in middle school (I listened to fucking Soulja Boy back then, when Crank Dat was a hit).
I'm 20 now and I'm overwhelmed by how much music has to offer. I have more free time than the average person but I still feel intimidated by the sheer volume of good music to listen to, especially when I like to listen to my favorites over and over and over until I'm sick of them.
