Sometimes is a word used to define a musical style, and sometimes is used to define an attitude or lifestyle. The sound of hardcore today is not the same of hardcore 10 or 20 years ago.
Some argue Hardcore is not musical style or sound. Hardcore is an attitude, and that attitude creates the scene. The X-Ray Spex, The Big Boys, Black Flag, Discharge, Crass, Embrace, Rites of Spring, Infest, Heresy, Drive Like Jehu, Born Against, Downcast, Spitboy, Fuel, Rain Like The Sound of Trains, Avail, Still Life, and Bikini Kill share little in termes of musical styles and types of sounds, but each of those bands encapsulated an attitude of defiance and independence.
Hardcore was born out of angst, anger, fear, alienation, oppression, rebellion - emotions of life. It lives not as a set of notes and chords, but as a culture of protests, resistance and survival. the very act of being in an independent band and playing your own songs and doing things for yourself is liberating.
Thats why hardcore is important to me

Try Gang of Four. Not exactly the same, but I think you might dig them.

thanks
Silent Lions are like a slower DFA with more soul-ish vocals.
Also, Royal Blood if you're just looking for bass + drums.

Why does /mu/ love this band so much? I don't hate them, or even dislike them, but they just sound so... generic. Not bad, just not something I would expect to make any buzz on /mu/. Am I missing something?
>>48901029
>DFA 1979
>generic
theres not one single band that sounds like them, even that megapost of recs is just bands that were from the same scene, and don't sound like dfa at all, they are just sassy like dfa, DFA 1979 basically took a bit of skramz and dance punk and sassyness but removed the vestigial hardcore elements and made some solid dance and mosh jams
>>48901029
I like the energy. vocals. and and the fun attitude in the music. If you don't like it they're just not for you.
It's your loss.
>>48901029
you are a poser man
Anyone else hyped for Psychical World?

DZ DEATHRAYS
>>48901191
I didn't like the first single they put out but after a few listens, it became a solid but slightly flawed single. I'm hoping the new album sounds a little more raw than the single but I'm still really excited for the new album.

I thought Trainwreck 1979 was great so I'm really excited. I bought tickets to see them in Houston and even pre ordered the ultimate edition bundle on their site just for the autographed poster, love these guys.
